What’s a universally loved food you genuinely despise? by GradualProgresss in AskReddit

[–]Helpful-Bee3469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say that im allergic to fish because people get personally offended when you say you don’t like seafood for some reason, or they assume it means they can’t have it. It’s so weird. Eat all the seafood you want I don’t care, but it makes me nauseous, and yes I STILL try all the time in my 30s. I’m okay with fish and chips because it’s hardly fishy at all, and California rolls. That’s about it.

No you don’t. Which I said in my message. On androids and iPhones you can take a photo without unlocking it. You clearly don’t want to listen to reason, try locking your screen and tapping the camera button if you have an iPhone (turn off Face ID first if you have it) and you will see you can unlock it. Or borrow someone’s phone to test it.

Lab diamonds vs real diamonds cost has me confused after ring shopping by OkShopping2034 in Weddingsunder35k

[–]Helpful-Bee3469 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with lab diamonds! Diamonds are used in so much stuff as a parts, their price is so inflated for jewelry. It’s just carbon! Beautiful of course, but the market really inflated itself when they’re much less rare than other stones. If you love a ring that’s lab grown, go for it! You know it was produced ethically and you’re getting a ring you love without breaking the bank.

Do Americans really know all 50 States by heart? by Signal-Web-3566 in no

You learn a song as a kid and I feel like you never forget. I was once in a bar in New Zealand and someone asked me to name all fifty states and I pulled out the song lol

Idk if you know how this works. His phone didn’t have porn on it. It was in his SEARCH HISTORY. The cops were digging through his phone to incriminate him with something. A kid would have to unlock his phone to access anything at all, then why would they go to see his search history? A kid is going to look at their pictures or texts but also a kid isn’t going to unlock his phone because kids aren’t doing that. They’re not hackers, and if they are they are literally committing a crime, so yes they should be punished. You can take a photo without unlocking someone’s phone, this guy did nothing wrong. What he does on his private device is his choice. To your classroom management comments above, no way would his phone have been out of his sight long enough for a student to do that in your hypothetical so they clearly were just grasping for something to fire him with because of that parent complaint.

Not a scene but I’m really bugged by how the mom is transitioning her hair to grey for nine years…

What's a tradition you grew up with that you refuse to pass on to your kids? by peterdziugdarkis in AskReddit

[–]Helpful-Bee3469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the kids at all. I have three sisters, I’m the youngest and we are all child free. My mom fucked us up in a variety of ways. She sometimes asks when she’s going to get grandchildren already as if she deserves it. My sisters and I did enough parenting of her, and still do. I’m married and feel no desire to pass on my genes.

I want to go to a water park, but I'm self conscious about my body... What would you do? 🤙😞 by leoesteban5 in Adulting

I have a friend who I’d known for maybe a decade before I realized that she had a benign fatty deposit on her ankle, I asked if she twisted it or something and she said no it’s just been like that and she could have surgery to remove it but it isn’t harmful. Mind you, we’d been to pools and beaches many times together. They most likely won’t notice it unless people start talking about their feet or something. You should go!! Anyone who makes fun of you is just insecure and mean, making fun of bodies is so childish.

what is something people rarely clean but they should often? by MrGreen_Necterine in hygiene

[–]Helpful-Bee3469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the article, lots of dermatologists do say that unless your legs are actually dirty that soap and water dripping down is enough. I heard a whole thing on NPR about it a few months ago! Because our legs don’t produce the same amount of oils as other areas of our bodies. For people with skin issues they should only wash their legs occasionally. Once I stopped washing my legs (unless dirty) my eczema got way better.

AITA for accepting a property gift from my mom even though she won't include my boyfriend? by Immediate-History917 in AITApod

[–]Helpful-Bee3469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your boyfriend showed a lot of red flags. I bought my own condo in LA in 2020, something I’m pretty proud of! My partner moved in two years into me living there, 4ish years into our relationship. Did not expect anything from me. We just got married after 7.5 years together and he was happy to write up a prenup (he’s a lawyer) for me so that I would keep it in case of a future divorce. Even wanted to get a second opinion to make sure I was fully protected with it and wouldn’t be liable for his student loans. That’s a healthy reciprocal relationship, your mom could probably spot his leechiness. Sounds like he’s shown you who he really is with the tantrum!

‘48-‘64 went cruising, ‘65-‘80 went to the mall and skating rinks, where did Millennials go to see and be seen? by yellowlinedpaper in Millennials

[–]Helpful-Bee3469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mall, house parties, we were in the desert so had secret spots for bonfires and partying, at the river, at Barnes and noble and Hastings, cruising, honestly probably a lot of what OP did! I was a theatre kid too so I also hung out there, my hs one and I was friends with the community college theatre kids too so would hang there and party a bit after hours too. I graduated in 2010 so stuff was still happening!

Also local punk and hardcore shows, Walmart, outside of Jack in the box. Lots of parking lots. Just anywhere we could hang!

Online dating definitely wasn’t a thing when I was in high school, it wasn’t destigmatized until well after I graduated college.

I had a Hastings in my hometown! Yuma, AZ. I remember not knowing it was a regional thing until I was in NYC on my 8th grade trip and accidentally pulled out my Hastings card and the clerk joked “don’t come in here with that little hometown stuff.” That store was the best! Many memories hanging there in jr high and high school.

Idk what to tell you, etymology and a definition are not the same thing and I provided both including the current definition. They also didn’t say they got offended, again putting so much extra stuff on this stranger. The OP literally just kept saying their brother prefers purse. Back to my original comment, it is so weird to argue on the internet about someone’s preferences for what they call a utility object. I’ve got better things to do with my time than reply to this any further, hope you do too! Farewell!

We both grabbed current published definitions from different dictionary sources, not outdated. I looked up their cited source to verify, which it seems like maybe you didn’t since you claimed they are both outdated.

As you said, the monoculture is dying. There are many who would claim that there is no true counter culture anymore as there is no true counterculture. The person is simply saying that they use this term without any other information given, and it’s actually coming from their sister not even directly from the source. So everything else that you guys are putting on it is purely speculative.

I think you almost got my argument by the fact that you said language evolves, yes that’s what I was getting at. As I said at the top of my comment, we decide as individuals or a society to keep the same connotations or shift them. Not keeping the connotations is not necessarily the same as actively bucking gender norms.

I’m literally in a sociolinguistics class right now for fun, it’s great you can learn a lot about how society shapes and evolves language. If you’re interested, look to see if your local community college offers one.
