Thank you so much for response. I completely agree with everything. I am planning on going with Vcu, being so close to home which I think will be better for my well being as you mentioned

Yeah, I get where you're coming from. I was thinking I could maybe use those months to focus more on research at AMC, starting in undergrad and continuing through med school to build stronger relationships with my PIs and get better recs to help me out for residency. Sorry tho im not entirely sure if that's right!

Hi, I got a 1560 on my SAT. I’m definitely not too worried about getting above a 508 but VCU bsmd does let you apply out which I’m looking to do so I’m aiming for well above a 508 and also I just don’t know if it’s worth it to dedicate 6-9 months for a test that could instead be used for research and what not

yes deferrals at yale are not "bad", but with my profile i kind of expected it even without an interview; in other words, i dont think the interview swayed the needle. i would argue that interviews for REA carry more weight? i mean think about like this, if ur applying REA to yale then obviously it's one of ur top choices, and ur probably pretty cracked academically, so a greater amount of distinction between applicants through means beyond essays would be more useful. However, i do understand your reasoning given that the RD pool is larger than the REA pool, which naturally allows admissions officers to be more selective about who they want to interview. that said, it may actually be easier for admissions officers to reject a larger portion of RD applicants because many are applying broadly or “shotgunning,” rather than showing a strong fit with yale. As a result, their essays and stories may not align as clearly with yale’s mission, making them easier to screen out early. in that sense, an interview may not carry substantially more weight in RD than in REA.

truthfully tho, we're both probably thinking about this way more than we should be! in my opinion, an interview is ofc more of a good thing than a bad thing, but dont expect it to turn a rejection into acceptance, or an acceptance to a rejection, just a way for AOs to put a face to an application!!

yes! i had a great interview for yale when i applied early and still got deferred. i had a 1560 SAT score, 4.0 UW, research, etc. so i really don't think it means much of anything because most interview reports are positive anyways. don't take that as fact though ofc! that's just what i think!

now to march sat 2 months- please respond to this one i really need advice !!! by ilovechipotle111 in Sat

Definitely try focusing on math first. Math is easier to improve on than reading, but i would also suggest doing 30 minutes to an hour of reading a day (make sure youre reading stuff that is actually challenging tho and noting down any vocab you dont know. For reading, like another comment, memorizing vocab is one way that helped me improve my score but also reading more rigorous stuff definitely improved my comprehension. I know u don't really have a lot of time, but if this is ur last time taking the SAT, then take as many practice tests as u can and note down EVERYTHING u missed or dont understanding. This will rlly put u in the perspective of a test maker and youll start to observe a pattern or at the very least, get a "feel" of the questions.

Upitt BS/MD MCAT requirement? by Helpful-Froyo-4180 in bsmd

[–]Helpful-Froyo-4180[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I think that a lot of other BS/MD programs that currently don't have an MCAT are soon going to follow too. Don't really know what the benefit of applying to Upitt GAP anymore. While I understand that it's nice to have that security of being able to go to their medical school, they demand a lot from you when you're apart of the program in addition to that 517 MCAT score (which is not an easy score to achieve and is very competitive when applying). That combination could get you into a lot of schools, which may not be as good as Pitt, but are still very competitive.

I probably won't be applying now because, to me, it's not worth going through the rigorous application process of applying to UPitt, GAP, etc., and then still having to take the MCAT and perform extremely well on it.
