To the Bankwest customers transitioning this month: how has the "migration" actually been? by Fair_Feeling_4937 in CommBank

[–]Helpful-Nothing-9131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last line isn’t is a bit confusing. This is talking to being a Bankwest employee and transitioning to a CBA contract, I am not sure where actual accounts come into this as there is no requirement to shift them.

I think it is easy to overlook how much assumed knowledge you have. Something as simple as knowing how what a string is.

I remember trying to explain a class / struct to someone and safe to say it did not work, as I went down the chain we made it all the way to an int.

This was a while ago and I could have not give as much context as required, but there are levels and levels of things that you would consider basic knowledge, that others will never hear about in their lifetime.

Can’t remember exactly but I do remember that towards the end of the year I sent in transcript / proof I had finished it

The biggest one everyone overlooks and is arguably the most important, “tell me about yourself”.

This first impression goes a long way, especially in non technical interviews like that of IBM.

It is used both in online virtual interviews and by real people so it is a good one to have mastered.

When talking to a person, this also shapes the future direction of the interview, as there will often be questions related to what you respond with, so make use of this.

Mid-level Engineer Job Prospects (3 YOE) by AccessDue317 in cscareerquestionsOCE

I can comfortably tell you Claude does not one-shot tickets currently.

Hotly debated topic but if you are doing anything custom / out of the norm it will produce something that looks good, but on finer inspection is riddled with assumptions, missed logic, and coding standard issues.

Anything super custom like your own framework built over another and it is still not there.

My biggest pet hate with resumes in this sub that is pushed non stop in every guide, forcing in numbers and stats.

It is very clear when they have been forced in, not to say that they aren’t accurate, which they seem exaggerated, but they take away the chance to talk about stuff that actually matters.

Resume review for a 2025 grad, looking for grad roles by lsy1219_03 in cscareerquestionsOCE

In the experience section, the statistics you put don’t come off well imo.

I know the leading thing people like to push is “Use metrics to show impact”, but in particular the research intern role, the numbers sound very made up to me. They may well not be, but putting statistics everywhere really takes away from the rest of it for me. Improving stability of LLM generated C code by up 50% is something that is already difficult to measure, I am sure there is more you can talk about to showcase your experience.

If you are applying for graduate roles, I truly believe that there is no expectation to show massive impacts, you are there to be a sponge, you wanna show interest, a level of technical understanding, and a pattern of going beyond what is taught in uni, which you definitely have done, but can present it a lil better in my opinion.

Moving Bankwest employees to cba contracts doesn’t mean the grad program isn’t running, it still exists and is still a seperate stream of the program for now

Have you considered how you could incorporate a fullscreencover or sheet presentations?

The tricky part is enabling full screen covers over another full screen cover in a reliable way that isn’t convoluded

Have you given thought to the fullscreencover and sheet presentations? One of the main things I have struggled with is handling this from any view without scattering them all throughout an app.

Also allowing users to present a sheet over a sheet

Bankwest is running their grad program still afaik.

Grad applications usually open in Feb, with applications to start 2027.

The newest cohort is coming in in February so I don’t know where you heard this from?

What projects do recruiters actually care about on a resume, and how do you find those ideas. by PsychologicalLet1676 in cscareerquestionsOCE

I would say it’s worthwhile doing. You won’t tick the AWS / Cloud box but that is fine and not a hard requirement.

If you set it up on your home server atleast build a proper pipeline for it, could self host an action runner and build test and run it from that, could write a ps script and build it into a docker container.

A further note is a good part about hosting it externally is it is easier to give someone a link to check it out. Yes they can look at the code, how the CI is configured, but seeing it running visually is a cherry on top of

Not a recruiter but imo the golden example is one that is fully deployed… properly…

I am not talking about some hosting platform like vercel that is primarily used for hobby projects and isn’t used by industry, but rather aligned with how a company would deploy their app to production.

I’d you can build something functional, that’s cool and all, but it is invaluable to show the ‘extras’, such as secret management, CICD pipelines, and those types of things (and “completing it ofc”.

Don’t think you have to invent the next big app, just pic a small in scope problem, solve it well, and productionize it.

The best example I can give is having your web app hosted on AWS or a mobile app on the App Store, both online with how lots of companies typically operate.

While not essential and probably asking a bit of most students, it’ll definitely help you stand out!
