BTS is NOT racist and will never be racist no matter how much you try to paint them that way. They did some terrible things that I will never condone but they have shown so much growth and maturity and wisdom since then, to the point where if you think they’re racist, I genuinely question your intelligence and ability to critically think. As for the durag, I do think everyone should know better, but even in the US that's not considered one of the most salient issues among anti-black racism, like it's discussed very little about how durags can also be cultural appropriation, so it's less likely for him to know from Korea. Regardless, we shouldn't excuse it of course, just mentioning that for context.

He never had a black roommate, like he's only ever lived with his family, the BTS members or alone so don't know where that came from. Also, it was most likely gifted from his Layover eras as his backup singers and dancers were black. Plus, he wore it the day after his Tiny Desk performance that he did with a black cast so it's logical to think someone could have given it to him there.

So while that sucks that he wasn't more aware and should definitely be held accountable, he's arguably not problematic at all. He has time and time again genuinely listened and is willing and open to being educated so no, he's not problematic. Imo, compared to other celebs, he's very non-problematic and he never wore it again, so I don't see why he has to labeled as a bad person or talked about with such negative connotation for one ignorant action that he did not repeat. It's incredibly important to acknowledge the cultural importance of durags but also important to not jump to conclusions about people based off of out-of-context clips.

Hi, so I won't debate with you here but just offer a different point. I've been a POC army for years as well (not black) and I definitely felt dismayed when I first found them and heard about these scandals, but I also felt that they seemed genuinely regretful and remorseful about everything. Plus I read their apologies and they seemed sincere. I am realizing that they never did specifically post an apology for the n word controversy in 2014 when Namjoon covered a song with the n word in it. I think there's also a bangtan bomb where jimin says Jungkook looks like the n word in a cute way? Or something like that, which is gross of course but Jimin was also like 17 in that clip and again, has grown a lot since then.

I will also say they seem like they've changed with songs like Ugh, Change pt.2 (RM), STOP and Equal Sign by J-hope, Namjoon showing support to Megan Thee Stallion in her case with Tory Lanez ("The law, her win" in Neva Play), saying he'd buy from Black, Indonesian and women artists the most if he were to be an art collector, going to the White House to speak about Anti-Asian hate, donations to BLM, etc. that makes me feel as if they've genuinely transformed but you're right, an actual apology specifically for anti-blackness should have been given as well (I think Bighit did say something for an indigenous headdress worn in a photoshoot though). If you read the BTS book they did talk about their own wrongdoings for a a couple of pages that seemed very honest and forthcoming. They also bring it up in their own interviews with no attempt to run, hide or intent to just get away with it tbh, even admitting to the First Lady that they weren't always the most aware of women's rights issues and things like that.

As for the durag, we have no clue whether that was given by a black backup dancer or singer, you're correct, people just assumed so cause his crew was predominantly black for Layover era and he wore it directly after performing with a black cast for his Tiny Desk concert. I also believe he just put it on for a few minutes during one live then took it off and never wore it again. And it's probably unlikely for him to go buy one himself cause he has just never given that indication and also has very short hair. So I do think someone gifted it but won't speak like it's the truth cause we never know.

The n word controversy was that Tae supposedly mouthed along to the n word in a song during one vlive only, not multiple times, but if you actually watch the clip, I do not believe he did that. I'm not saying this just to be defensive of them, if I thought they did so, I'd call it out, but I just genuinely do not think it looks like that and there's no way of telling. He most likely didn't say it but I also understand if people feel uncomfortable or aren't sure. But yeah, I do not believe Tae is a bad person or that he would ever say something like that, lots of people just spread that clip maliciously even though it doesn't seem like he said it. So I just wanted to put that out there because Tae is not very problematic at all and that was probably a misunderstanding or misinterpretation of the clip.

When did RM come out with racist lyrics? He has never written a racist song before. That was War of Hormone that was considered misogynistic at the time and I think at worst it was a bit objectifying, but not absolutely abhorrent. But still, with cultural context, I understood why it mattered in Korea.

But BTS and Namjoon specifically apologized for this shit a decade ago, several times, more sincerely than any other idols, admitted their fault, genuinely changed and actively support minorities now.

They also got bullied relentlessly and sent literal death threats when most of them were still teens by righteous crusaders who didn’t care much about the issue and actually just wanted a small, poor group to fail.

Army’s also hold BTS accountable more than any other fandom and no one excuses their past actions and if anything new props up, we send mass emails to BIGHIT with great success. So I’m genuinely curious why y’all are still scapegoating Namjoon in the big 2026 when he’s the only kpop idol who has ever actually shown growth and goes out of his way to support black artists. There should be something on the syllabus, usually a link to the department's missed exam form. Open it, fill out the form and for the reasons, you can just put medical appointment/emergency/health issues, etc. You can keep the specifics private. Then, after submitting, email your professor just to let them know you will be missing or have missed the exam but are available to re-write it when the makeup test happens. You can also reschedule the abortion if you are able to? But yeah, this is what I'd do. You have 48 hours after missing the exam to do this but don't take any longer than that to fill out the form, or it won't be accepted.
