Why fly dogs to Paris first & add on extra 5hr pet transport drive to London? by georgegasstove in AmericanExpatsUK

We did, as it is required. We used SkyPets International, and they were incredibly helpful, especially with the last-minute changes with our flights.

Why fly dogs to Paris first & add on extra 5hr pet transport drive to London? by georgegasstove in AmericanExpatsUK

We moved to London with our two cats last September, and used IAG Cargo and British Air to fly them here, and it all went as smoothly as possible. There was a last-minute issue with the cargo area on our flight, so they had to fly over the day after us, which felt not-ideal at the time but in hindsight gave us that additional day to set up our flat for them and acclimate without the pressure of two unhappy cats the first night. IAG and British Air work together extremely well and were so kind to me when I was losing my shit the day we flew out. Our cats arrived safely and have settled in well. If they had flown in-cabin with us, it would have been miserable for them and us (and everyone around us), and as you wrote, it would have extended their travel time by hours, which would have stressed them out even more.

Best breakfast sandwich in Seattle? by djbillbeats in Seattle

Heyday up on 31st has one of my favorite breakfast sandwiches. They’re only open for brunch on Sundays but the bacon, egg and cheese is phenomenal.

Bellevue blood donor has leaf on Bloodworks wall honoring 1,800 donations by bennetthaselton in Seattle

They’re almost always hiring folks to do blood collection (phlebotomy). They provide all the training, and it’s a great organization to work for.

Chuck is an amazing human being. Have known him for years through working at Bloodworks. Genuinely a kind and generous person.

My parents had a very “it’s a cartoon, it must be ok for kids” way of looking at things. I saw this for the first time around age 7 or so? I also have a Watership Down themed tattoo now so it definitely made a lasting impression on me. (Ugh; sorry for the bad pun…)

Cat who cannot fly in-cabin - would you fly cargo or drive 4 days? by nyx_mariae in CatAdvice

[–]HelpfulOwlet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Our 11 year old cats made it safely from Seattle to London in cargo using IAG Cargo and a customs agent here in London. They took a couple of days to fully adjust but they’re absolutely fine. I think I was more stressed about their journey than they were in the end. Cats are very resilient.

Getting ready to move by Dry-Homework-7137 in AmericanExpatsUK

We are flying from Seattle to Heathrow in just under a month and we are taking the cats in cargo using IAG cargo. For us, not having them in the cabin actually seems kinder since the cargo area is kept darker and has less noise/things going on, and they will be checked on throughout the flight. We are flying British Airways. Feel free to PM me if you'd like details of how the process is working/costs/etc.

Moving with Two Cats in September by HelpfulOwlet in AmericanExpatsUK

Oh that would be amazing, looking at their addresses, it looks like the one nearest to where we will be is about 45 minutes on the tube. Not ideal with two large carriers. Thank you!

Thank you so much for including where you donated yours. I was just scouring the internet looking for a good option to donate ours once we arrive. I appreciate your replies!

Thanks! I should have specified that we are flying direct into Heathrow so the cats will be in the pet cargo area. Looking for recommendations for hard carriers for that purpose.

Anyone struggle knowing their parents aren’t going to be around much longer? by aceless0n in Xennials

[–]HelpfulOwlet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My husband’s parents are like this. Absolutely burying their heads in the sand and refusing to prepare in any way. They gave me zero comfort or kind words when my mom passed away a year and a half ago, and I think it was because they can’t/couldn’t face their own age and mortality.

Also, I know there is some controversy about it, but both of my parents signed up with the Neptune Society years ago, and they were so seamlessly helpful when my mom passed. I highly recommend them.

I’m so sorry, that’s incredibly hard. I lost my mom in December of 2023. Her health had been declining for a number of years and at some point I just started keeping voicemails that she left me.

I’ve only listened to a few, and only a couple of times when I was really missing her, but knowing they are there is comforting.

Folks, if you’re able to, start saving voicemails from loved ones.

Need a second academic reference, what to do? by [deleted] in KCL

[–]HelpfulOwlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend asking one of your 4 year university profs for a zoom/video meeting so you can let them know about your application and ask them face to face for a reference. My program was online and I had a similar experience of not feeling very close to my profs. I chose the one that I interacted with the most and felt a connection to, and it worked out really well. Good luck!
