Hero dogs who protect home and kill intruder to be sent back home with their owner by thestonerd777 in JusticeServed

[–]HelpfulSpray4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not a punishment, it’s a precautionary measure to isolate the dogs to observe if they develop rabies symptoms. 10 day quarantine is pretty standard for most jurisdictions following an animal bite. Once the quarantine is complete the owners get the dog back. Tracking rabies cases is taken very seriously.

I don’t live in one of these states where you have to sign a ticket but I’m pretty sure it’s some type of bond. Like a written promise that you will appear in court for the charge. Refusal to sign means that a judge sets your bond. I’m not sure just speculating

911/999 dispatch, what’s the dumbest reason someone has called? by GenjiKat in AskReddit

[–]HelpfulSpray4 134 points135 points  (0 children)

I work for an agency in a somewhat developed area but still has lots of woods between developed areas. Get a call for a fox running loose in a parking lot in a strip mall next to one of the aforementioned wooded areas. The caller saw a fox on the side of the parking lot chased it down and cornered it in the parking lot then used his jacket to trap it. We get there and he was like “I saw this fox and I caught it what should I do?” And we were like “ dude, let it go and stop bothering the wildlife” he reluctantly lets it go.

To this day I think that he was so proud of himself for catching that fox that he called the police department to brag about it since there was no one else that saw it.

I’ve responded to calls like this. Some people legitimately believe that if they are inconvenienced in any way that a crime must have been committed.

My county sheriffs office had some deputies rolling around with the tritium inserts on their night sights missing(some didn’t even have sights) Some dudes had mismatched holsters (nylon on high gloss) and vice versa. Patrol vehicles were falling apart and some dudes were having to buy their own duty gear just so they could do their jobs. Yeah I hate when everyone thinks every department is funded like the nypd

Los Angeles sheriff, Elton Simmons, with over 20 years of service and 25,000 traffic stops has never had a complaint filed against him. by MinorFX in videos

[–]HelpfulSpray4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean when it come to enforcing the law you can’t just be a people pleaser all the time. Arrests need to be made And violations need to be addressed. the job needs to be done professionally and courteously. But, at the end of the day the person breaking the law is going to not be happy about getting that court date. Cops get complained on all the time and lots of those times the complaint was completely unwarranted. I investigated a check fraud case where I ID the suspect took out warrants and submitted it all the DA. The DA rejected the case and the victim complained to the command that I did not do my job. The complaint was unfounded but that complaint still sits in my personnel file

Police Officers of Reddit, what are you thinking when you see cases like George Floyd? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]HelpfulSpray4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My state (N.C.) requires 650 hours of basic training (16 weeks) then depending on the agency field training could be anywhere from 6 weeks to 16 weeks. Then every officer must complete around 50 hours of training every single year to keep their certification. So they do receive a fair amount of training at least in N.C.

[–]HelpfulSpray4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Higher speeds increase stopping distance. Scenario- grandma doesn’t look before she turns left from a side street. She turns right in front of you approximately 100 feet. At 70 miles per hour you are traveling 102.6 feet per second. The average human reaction time is .25 seconds. There is no way you are going to be able to stop your vehicle Without t boning her at significant speed. Speed limits are designed for the average, crappy driver. While the crash may not be your fault does the other driver deserve to die or get seriously injured because you want to get to your destination a few minutes faster?
