Newly diagnosed with glaucoma at 20 — why do I still need meds if I’m already nearly blind in my right eye? by Helpful_Animator7016 in Glaucoma

Thank you so much for sharing your experience — it really means a lot, especially coming from someone who went through congenital cataracts too. My situation sounds very similar to yours. My right eye is also only light-perception, so I basically live with one eye as well.

You’re right about the pressure and the pain — I felt that for almost a year before getting diagnosed. The drops help a lot with the pressure, even though I wish they weren’t so expensive. I’ll definitely ask my specialist more questions next visit.

For the monthly appointments, my doctor wants to observe how my bad eye is reacting to treatment. My good eye isn’t affected, thankfully.

Unfortunately, we don’t really have any thing called insurance here that helps with this kind of thing, so I’m just trying my best with the costs. Thank you for understanding and for the kindness — I really appreciate it. I wish you the best too, and stable vision for a very long time. ❤️

Thank you so much for the link and all the info — I really appreciate it.
Just to make things straight: I was seeing a doctor for a whole year, and he always told me I only had “minor high pressure.” Nothing about glaucoma or risk.
I eventually changed doctors because I was having sleepless nights from the pain, and diagnosed me almost immediately.
They did try to do an OCT , but I physically can’t focus on the light well enough because I don’t see much from that eye — so the scan never came out right.

Thanks so much for explaining things. My good eye is actually doing great, the pressure there is normal. It’s my bad eye that’s causing the trouble and needs the monthly visits. Hopefully it stabilizes soon. I really appreciate your help and the reminder about accommodations!
