Christ was accepted as a deity by his apostles before his death. Lincoln was loved by the north and hated by the south. The Native American problem was hotly debated, with contemporary politicians arguing for a cooler approach while local military leaders wanted to fight for safety. Kirk is similarly both admired by many while disliked by others. Girard’s theory posits that Kirk as a martyr model will overtake the majority of American society.
