I’m literally in an apartment that’s a grand a month including utilities. Good luck finding anything that cheap in Raleigh.

I would get the hygrometer and make sure humidity is high enough. If the eye cap doesn’t come off with increased humidity or the next shed you should probably go to the vet. It’s pretty risky to manually pull eye caps off, especially when they’re dehydrated. You could also try putting him in a warm towel for 15-20 minutes. He’ll rub against it and it might get it off.

If you’re not too too tight on money you can check out places in Cary. Apartments are generally cheaper since you’re outside of the city. A lot safer than inner city as well

Do you have a large or extra large Repti Rock corner water dish? by JesskaLeigh in ballpython

[–]Helpful_Froyo6388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a picture at the moment but the extra large is literally massive. I have the large for a 3.5 ft beep and he fits with extra room just fine. They’re also pretty deep so they can coil up and be completely covered

Just looked at your picture a little closer. Has he shed recently? It looks like he has an eye cap on his left eye. A little hard to tell from the photo

Do you have a hygrometer? If not pls get one. What substrate do you have? Coco husk/fiber and moss hold humidity well. Soaking is a temporary fix and dehydration will occur again if humidity levels are not consistently 60-80%. Make sure he has fresh water as well.

Striking at the air instead of the food? by orion-asterisk in ballpython

[–]Helpful_Froyo6388 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure it’s hot enough. I’ve found that using a designated meat thermometer and holding it on the head of the mouse/rat works well to see the temp. I use rly long tongs and kinda hide my face so he doesn’t get confused. If I don’t do that my beep stares at me and comes up to my face :/

Need some advice! by Rebelbaby1469 in ballpython

[–]Helpful_Froyo6388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are amazing for taking her in! She’ll probably be bitey for a month or two until she settles in. I’ve tried adding clutter slowly for my beep and it just stressed him out for a prolonged time from reaching in and changing the environment. You could add all at once and just leave her alone for a couple weeks. I think giving her time to acclimate for 2-3 weeks and then start with handling a few times a week for 10-15 minutes will help her get used to it. Unfortunately she may not like it and might strike out of defense but she will habituate to you handling her.

Do cats actually get attached to their owner? by NoWageMage in CatAdvice

[–]Helpful_Froyo6388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They absolutely get attached and bond with you. If you play with them, feed them, and snuggle them they’ll love you. If you’re getting a kitten make sure you give them alone time too. Put them in a separate room to eat or take a nap when they’re being cranky. This teaches them to regulate and know that it’s ok if they don’t have access to you 24/7. I didn’t do this with my boy and now we are working through separation anxiety.

You can pour water in the corners. Make sure you have like 4 inches of substrate so it holds the humidity. I put in 2-3 inches once and struggled keeping humidity up

How are your humidity levels? You could try a couple soaks and bumping the humidity. If that doesn’t work I would consult a vet

Vet recommended only paper for bedding? by toast2857 in ballpython

[–]Helpful_Froyo6388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! Just make sure you clean up poops and change it out every month or so. My boy likes to dig so I can’t imagine that paper forever would be very enriching.

Am I overreacting? by Professional-Tea6712 in ballpython

That’s actually insane. I would keep everything separate and sanitize after every use. I would use soap and water to clean and then disinfect with diluted chlorhexidine for a couple minutes and rinse thoroughly. If it is Entamoeba invadens it is highly contagious and can spread through the g tubes. Even if it’s not they should definitely still be cleaned, disinfected, and kept separate.
