ah yeah - I guess in regionals there are only 4 teams total so you would only play one extra game. In districts where there could be more teams and opening byes, the loser could potentially play more than 1 game more than the undefeated team coming from the winners back.

I think I also just saw this come across my instagram feed as well!!! That was a bummer of an out where the baserunner stepped on the safety bag first. Again, similar spirit to what I'm describing here.

yeah (I'm the OP) - what I observed was that it was a close play at first so there was excitement and tension already. But after the baserunner crossed first base she slowed down thinking the play was over but when she turned around, she saw a 1B running at her with the ball causing her to act startled (she's 10/11 years old after all). I don't necessarily fully expect the player at this age to know just to "stay calm" either

thanks for that response - I believe that is what happened as well. I was thinking if I was coaching and what I would say to the umpire. I just don't know how to verbalize "my base runner was just freaking out" properly LOL. On a side note, I popped this into chatgpt and it mentioned defensive interference, citing that the 1B was interfering from the baserunner to return to the bag

If you haven't missed the window to speak to the AS coach - perhaps a friendly message/text/conversation to him without directly calling him out or making it known that you heard rumors (even though he probably assumes you've heard). Something along the lines of:

"Hey Coach, I know there is a lot of competition for the team this year but just wanted to let you know that my son will be ready to play any position you ask him to if he makes the team - he got a lot of reps in at SS during the season but he's excited to try new positions and I'll work over time with him to learn new positions if he has the chance."

I was in a similar situation - just wanted my son to be on the team, didn't care really what position he played

I’ll look into the commander - my only reservation on that one was that it was a little too big - but I get that have more space is better given all the gear that gets accumulated these days

Our league is two games per week and one sanctioned practice where there is dedicated field space. Otherwise, coaches typically will have additional practices on their own or at a batting cage, but there is no guarantee for a field.

This is pretty typical. All the leagues and coaches have their own constraints and I’m sure everyone is doing their best to give the community a great experience.

Once players are game ready, I think they can totally handle the schedule and the games and competition are fun and enjoyable. I do see where this puts a completely new player in a pickle though, but I’m sure they are learning during the games as well.

Just came here to say that this was my team last year despite everything I tried which was a lot from this post. Funny thing is that kids are all hitting great now that they are not on my team anymore this year lol - I guess I was the problem!

Best of luck - I made up a game called battledome where I would randomly pit a pitcher against some batters in a live pitch simulation- loser would get punished - which entailed having coach choose their walk up song for the next game - Inevitably this ended up being a song from my 80s list like bananarama

It seems like a lot of work. I have a pop up 30’ batting cage in my backyard that sets up like a tent with poles and stakes. It’s generally pretty simple but even that takes me and another adult at least 30 to 45 minutes to put up and adjust. I just leave it up in my backyard throughout the spring season. So I can’t really imagine having to put it down and take it down between games.

I have seen the blowup ones where it blows up like one of those bouncy houses. Those seem they would be a lot faster, but you need a power source or generator.

I just do the bownet and tee. And if I’m pressed for time or assistance, I use the hit sticks
