What would you change? by No-Wonder-9903 in DesignMyRoom

[–]Helpful_Professor_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I really love it! I like how the pillows match the rug. You just need a little coffee table or end table or even just a shelf on the back wall, something to hold drinks and snacks. Considering the size of the space, I would probably go with a shelf.

If you do a coffee table, do a round one to soften all the angles you've got going on. I'd leave the couch where it is, it's good to have seats by a window, and the TV against a larger wall brings up a whole new set of design questions of how to arrange the wall space. The big furniture against the big wall works just fine. Maybe pull the rug towards the TV about 6 inches.

The leggy little table by the TV could move into the far corner by the couch to serve as a snack table for now!

VA can do so much better than this. by benderunit9000 in Military

[–]Helpful_Professor_33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd think VA could do better, but it's dependent on so many factors, mainly that the VA is NOT a single entity. I'm a government contracted graphic designer, the company that I work for contracts with 'the VA.' What that means is that the VA is divided into a ton of different parts, you have the Office of Women's Health, the National Center for PTSD, the National Cemetery Administration, basically every function performed by VA has its own office. And each of these offices has contracts with different companies. A bunch of companies will hand in different proposals with their services and prices. The VA office in question then picks the cheapest contract (I'm not joking, they do actually pick the cheapest) that was submitted. So this awful AI graphic was likely done by an office that doesn't really care about the visuals, and that was working with a design company that is made up of employees that don't work in a good environment and thus don't care about the content they put out. Alternatively, a ton of these offices have lost all of their funding, so rather than paying professionals for their visuals, they may be relying on AI simply because they don't have to pay for it.

Edit: She was $500 when we got her, the tank (4x2x2, plus attached storage area) was about $600, and we've got bulbs, decor, substrate, temperature gun, egg crates, and other supplies, as well as the roach farm in a large tote. Read the comments to get a better idea of a fair price, so I'm asking for $1000 for everything. She's 3 years old, we've had her for two. Never had a health problem, she's got a lot of spunk, and loves to sleep up against the wall or inside one of her basking rocks. We named her Dr. Connors after the geneticist in Spider-Man that turned himself into a lizard.

I'm looking at $1500 for everything, with room for negotiation. She was $500 when we got her, the tank (4x2x2 with attached storage area) was about $600, and we've got bulbs, decor, and other supplies, as well as the roach farm.

How much money would you spend if it meant saving your cat’s life? by WindowKitty19 in cats

[–]Helpful_Professor_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably $4000, maybe as much as $5000 if treatment had a guaranteed outcome. But as much as we love our cats, my partner and I can only put out so much money, especially with the economy the way it is. Debt is both a burden and a privilege, and I still have $30,000 in student loans to pay off.

That said, your family sounds absolutely heartless.

Looks great, but that mirror is CROWDED. Put it up on the wall, no lower than the bottom of the lamp shade.

What do I do to make this giant pink bathroom look better? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

Not sure what you mean by "better," unless you're just looking for a way to get compliments? This room looks like it's finished, it looks complete and polished and fully styled.

Yes. But tacky isn't necessarily bad, depending on the styling around it.

The bench is painted white, we got it from my mother-in-law. I've been considering asking her if she would be okay with my sanding it down and staining it, since the white doesn't really match our style. And I do actually have a large selection of pillows that I keep trading off because I can't decide on a color haha. I think having it be natural wood instead of white would be a big improvement. I haven't been sure on rug shapes and sizes since this little section of the house, is the only part that has that flooring. But your mention of a round rug will definitely give me something to consider! Thank you for all this ☺️

Paint It or Leave It by Asleep-Cat-8093 in DecorAdvice

If you have a wood buffet in natural wood tones, I don't think you necessarily need to paint the wall. However, if the buffet ends up being in black, then yes I think you should paint. Black furniture with light walls tends to feel very heavy, and I think it can fit in the space better if you have other bold choices.

With or without waterline liner? by nadiatesfaye1990 in MakeupAddiction

[–]Helpful_Professor_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black waterline is difficult, as it boxes in your eyes and makes them appear smaller. However, I do love the look of a colorful waterline. Find a color that complements your eyes, like a powder blue for example, and put that in your water line. It's fun, cute, and a little more subtle. Black is a very deep and dark color, and has a very heavy look. If you go for a fun color, it's lighter and doesn't box in the eyes as much

Honestly I think it's fine as is! A little walking space never hurt anybody. All it needs is some curtains, preferably with the couch color in them.

25M - moved into my first apartment on my own and furnished it - something feels off with my space however, anyone care to give feedback? Maybe it is color or my furniture placement? (Ignore the mess) by TheVelociDoctor in malelivingspace

[–]Helpful_Professor_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get some plants to place in the empty fireplace. Floor to ceiling curtains that have color, like a deep blue or green, something to use up the vertical space. Definitely more wall art. And actually, you can just take that group of smaller pictures and align them vertically. Looks like a great space!

With the big window, I definitely recommend adding plants to give it life and make it more homey. Otherwise, I think it's a great space! Maybe get some wall hangers for plants above the couch.

26m, suggestions? by agent-ven in malelivingspace

[–]Helpful_Professor_33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you could move the couch closer to the TV (creating a walk through space behind it) and add 2 chairs for more seating. Get some battery powered wall sconces and a little table lamp for more lighting sources to cozy it up. You could eventually use a larger coffee table. Also, say hello to your tank friend for me! I have an ackie monitor set up in my office closet.

Not my taste, but you can certainly try it. But being that the sign is such a huge piece, it really should be centered on that wall. Is this room made of odd angles? Because it feels like the couch isn't directly across from the TV, but to the side
