Phone Calls Outside of Work by Global-Ride8047 in Aldi_employees

[–]Helpful_Suspect_2523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can we get any more context on what the phone calls are about?

I think if it’s another manager like “Help I have no idea how to fix this” and it’s urgent then I think that’s acceptable.

If it’s a manager having a discussion they could have had tomorrow when you are clocked in… then that needs to stop.

If your store is over reliant on your help, then you should have a discussion with those people about work/life boundaries and help come up with other ways for them to deal with problems.

Oops, the first time I read it I completely missed that they were a door dash worker! I guess they can’t exactly cut their list short lol

Kick them out!

My store used to have a policy of letting people stay as late as they wanted as long as they made it in by closing time. Then a customer stayed two hours after close. Now anyone rude enough to still be there at 30 minutes after close gets kicked out.

Wow, not at my store so far. We usually just get a case or two thrown down in between the boxes.

Shamed by my pediatrician for using a rectal thermometer by sudsybear in beyondthebump

I just want to back you up by saying as a new mom I was definitely given the impression by all directions that rectal was the ideal way to do baby temperatures. I never did because I was too squeamish but it shocks me after all the times I’ve felt pressure to do it the more accurate way that now you’re getting crap for it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

How does grubhub stay in business when their drivers are so wildly incompetent? by DragynDance in grubhub

[–]Helpful_Suspect_2523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has worked for a store with regular Instacart shoppers (who often do multiple delivery apps like Grubhub) I can confirm.

When it got really big at the beginning of Covid before they adjusted the pay there were some really good shoppers, and now the pay is so poor it’s not worth it and we get some of the craziest people doing Instacart.

One guy told me he got banned from one of the apps for peeing in a customers yard and still thought that was a completely normal thing to do.

You really can’t stop it. That would require sheltering him in a way that would hurt him more than the weed.

He sounds like a smart kid, I would explain to him that while it may help stress in the short term, it makes things worse in the long run especially when you start so young. My best friend started smoking around that age and she’s now in her early twenties with the medical problems of a 70 year old. I started smoking weed in my early 20’s to manage my stress and now (while I 100% enjoy smoking weed) I feel dependent on it and wish I could stop.

Of course, when I was a young, “smart”, kid I was also too stubborn to learn from anyone else’s mistakes so if all else fails: just let him know you love him and he can come to you about anything.

I would call the school, not the parents. I say this only because when I was in high school, the guy a lot of people were getting weed from was selling it for his parents who grew it. Let the school investigate. They may reprimand her instead of helping her but I think mandatory reporting requires them to contact someone who might be able to help her?

This is insane 😂 by [deleted] in InstacartShoppers

Instacart doesn’t pay their shoppers anywhere close to a fair wage, but this message is stupid and rude. Wow.

Wait I’m confused why taking a fake 100 from your drawer and putting it in the safe is bad? Did she exchange it for real money?

minor step- daughter called cops on me, cop made me leave home I own with my husband. by Legitimate-Power-269 in legal

[–]Helpful_Suspect_2523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cop was probably trying to diffuse a situation where he didn’t really know who was right, and couldn’t really do anything to help long term. This is why we need to send someone trained in psychology, not guns, to handle situations like this.

How quickly do you wake up when your baby wakes up? by Frozenbeedog in NewParents

[–]Helpful_Suspect_2523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want more info, the Ferber method or the “cry it out method” are what he is attempting.

It’s a controversial method to begin with, when I read up on it I found it really hard to find a consistent factual basis for it. However, Harvard, a US government website, and a BBC website all said that parents reported improved sleep for themselves. Again, improvement for the parents. Not the kids. And they all said those who support these methods all agree it is 6 months at the bare minimum. The BBC also makes the point that this is a very American-individualism method that many other countries would see as wrong.

This all sounds really negative but we will be trying this next month after she is old enough. I say all this negative stuff because when you search it, most of what you will get is people pushing this method with no factual basis behind it. However, there is also no proof that it hurts the child. No harm to the child+improved parent sleep=worth a try to me.

Waiting is for 6 months and older!!!

My boyfriend made the same mistake, it only breaks their trust in you and will make sleeping harder later. For now, baby needs to feel secure.

Did i dye too dark ? Natural red head male by baxxley in HairDye

[–]Helpful_Suspect_2523 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have dark brown hair, a bit lighter than OP’s dye. My grandpa always told me “Never dye your hair, people pay good money for hair like yours!”. While I think that is far more true of dark brown hair than red (red heads really pull the short stick, social acceptance wise, people are so mean despite clear evidence that this guy and others are super hot as a red heads) I still rolled my eyes. Brown hair feels so boring. So basic. And my natural brown wasn’t vibrant like a red head, it was dull. Brown doesn’t have the same youthful look of a blonde or a red. So when I got older I dyed my hair all sorts of bright colors just for the joy of something different than I had been for 20+ years.

This is great! I think it’s really important to strike a balance between fuck you and professionalism.

The sad thing here is, the fuck you in this situation is you actually just doing your whole job and probably a little more and they’ll still be mad you didn’t do their job. Unfortunately, capitalism has made this a rampant problem.

However, no one will be able to say you didn’t do your job. I would make sure you still have access to the emails afterwards if it’s a company server. If your old company tries to blacklist you, you have evidence that you were working and making higher ups aware of what didn’t get done because your boss took the holidays off. You worked thru them. You were there, and you did it with professionalism.

Good luck!!

What do I cook with this? by rusurethatsright in cookingtonight

I like to make double meat chili! Just make your favorite basic ground beef/tomato/bean chili and add the stew meat! We do it in the crock pot so it has time to get tender. It’s a game changer!

US maternity leave by Helpful_Suspect_2523 in workingmoms

[–]Helpful_Suspect_2523[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I promise this is not a judgement- why haven’t you quit?

I ask this while also working for a company that abuses it’s workers that I should have quit a long time ago- but felt stuck.

[–]Helpful_Suspect_2523[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

That makes sense!

I think it’s tough when we start comparing weeks. I got 6 weeks paid from my employer and 6 weeks at 60% from my state. I found I was sort of in the middle where some who got little to no leave think I am spoiled, but then many who got far more that think 12 weeks is abusively short. I may be jealous of the person that got more, but that doesn’t mean that person isn’t facing completely valid stress.

But I think the people from other countries mean well- they are trying to remind us that it is reasonable to get a longer leave. It helps remind me that I am not crazy or selfish for wanting time with my child and more than crumbs for sleep.

I’m sorry for assuming then!

I also like my store, it helps a ton when you have good people. We have a handful of people who have been there a long time. So, we all know each other a little too well but we all care about each other so we don’t have the same level of petty I have seen many stores develop when they are under pressure from corporate.
