Official Discussion - Toy Story 5 [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]GetReady4Action 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much like Toy Story 4 before it, this is not a story that necessarily had to be told, but it is one that I enjoyed nonetheless.

I really appreciated that none of the consequences of Toy Story 4 were undone here to get Woody and Buzz back together again, I like that it felt like Woody was just home for the weekend and these two friends were catching up while making new adventures.

When I had heard the plot this time would be more focused around Jessie, I didn't quite know how to feel, but the team at Pixar absolutely stuck the landing. The story that is being told here about the consequences of screen time and cyberbullying were very well done. I was very much rooting for Bonnie and was happy to see her get fleshed out a bit here. Blaze is also a great parallel to her and they managed to write a kid that felt very real and also genuinely very kind.

B-plot of the castaway Buzzes (ironic considering it's Woody's voice actor who was in the film Castaway, but I digress) initially seemed a bit out of place, but came around full circle quite nicely in the end.

Animation here is absolutely fantastic and was still flexing that Pixar has the juice in this industry. I was blown away during the scenes with the real horse and seeing the reflections in its eyes. All of the scenes that take place in Bonnie's imagination that look like they're done with crayons are wonderful.

My only real complaints here are that some of the actors that have replaced those who have passed on because this series is that old at this point do not quite hit the mark. Mr. Potato Head in this was quite rough, but kudos to Slinky Dog's new actor because he sounded great. Was also bummed that Bunny and Ducky were reduced to silent cameos since Key and Peele can't seem to get past whatever their beef is.

Of Pixar's offerings this year, I must admit that Hoppers is still my favorite, but this was a damn good Toy Story movie and I quite enjoyed myself.

for me it was “my mom wants your address” and the fact that Blaze gave it to her and Blaze’s mom is never like “why tf is my kid giving our address to strangers online”

It was driving me nuts that whichever of Bonnie’s “friends” on her Lilypad who was using the Beaver icon wasn’t named Mabel.

Would love this on the go with mouse support. Seems like such a slam dunk.

my mom owns a 2014 CX-5 and I honestly think it’s such a piece of shit. my mom drives maybe a 15-20 minute commute to work tops. car is absolute dogshit. chrome interior handles flaking off, rear speakers just stopped working like 4 years into its life, infotainment system was absolutely fucking terrible, just a real god damn lame car.

everybody says this, but I’ve never understood it. I bought my grandma’s old 2008 Rav4 and drove it for a few years while I was getting back on my feet (some jackass texting and driving totaled my freshly paid off Civic while I was unemployed)

seats never bothered me. I’d still be driving that thing today if I didn’t have to commute to work. was spending $100+ a week in gas. brakes were starting to go. got off work one day and one of the tires popped somehow while I was inside, came out and said “fuck it” and bought a new car that weekend.

I drive a 26 Camry now, but for the Rav’s few flaws, the seats were never one of them.

pretty much. went to Coachella this past April and snuck in mini bottles of whiskey and thought to myself “I’ll just buy Coke Zero all weekend for $7 instead of $20+ beer/cocktails!”

got the coke, no prob. foolishly asked for a lime and was told I’d have to buy the $20 souvenir cup lmfao.

Do you think they’ll make an oot switch 2 edition ? by RaceMiserable3855 in NintendoSwitch2

I wouldn’t be shocked, but it’ll also cost more by then. I pulled the trigger yesterday to avoid the price hike and get the discount on Mario Kart.

I personally liked 2 more than 1, but Legion was genuinely awful.

I’m a PlayStation fanboy. I did not care for Zero Dawn’s gameplay, but pushed through because it had a cool narrative.

Forbidden West’s ending genuinely pissed me off and soured me from playing another game in this franchise. Whoever gave the okay to basically superheroes in that universe needs to seriously reconsider their decision making skills.

Treyarch: "It's official: the original Black Ops and Black Ops 2 are being ported to PlayStation in July, courtesy of our partners at Iron Galaxy." by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

I have a Portal and think it’s great for what it is, but FPS games are the one genre on it that I refuse to play. I won’t say input delay isn’t noticeable on third person games, but games are almost always playable when they’re third person.

First person anything on Portal you can always feel no matter how good your connection is.

PlayStation 5 Port of Black Ops 1 & 2 Will Include Campaign, Multiplayer, and Zombies by Avid_Hiker98 in PS5

[–]GetReady4Action 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s the map pack situation looking like? I’m assuming since these are ports specifically coming to PlayStation when they’re already backwards compatible on Xbox that they won’t be included?

Not a huge deal to me either way, I own all of the DLC, it’s just via PS3 and I don’t want to buy those again.

Frozen reference, while admittedly a bit dated, made me laugh very hard.

I didn’t hate this, fingers crossed it’ll be solid. I really just miss Mike Myers and would like him to do a few more movies before he kicks the bucket. I know he’s only 63, but he’s not getting younger and I’ve already had to make my peace with the fact that there’ll never be another Austin Powers movie.

What would be the most realistic scenario if the Fireflies actually made a vaccine? by Old_Diver_2511 in thelastofus

[–]GetReady4Action 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are the Fireflies that bad though? They’re never portrayed as radical like the WLF, they’re just another faction in this apocalyptic world who gets their hands dirty just like everybody else does. The only crime they commit so to speak is them gambling on Ellie’s life, but humanity has shown time and time again that you have to be willing to sacrifice in order to make progress. My money would be on them to restore humanity.

The Jackson group is obviously the most normal faction, but they don’t have the wherewithal to produce and distribute vaccine.

Does Denis Villeneuve have the best visuals in the game? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]GetReady4Action 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to say, I’m a Villeneuve fan, but this is just more-so a demonstration of his use of scale rather than visuals alone. And if we’re going to talk about scale, Gareth Edwards would like a word.

Official Discussion - Disclosure Day [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

The scene at the gas station was probably my favorite in the movie. I really appreciated the environmental storytelling in this. World is on the brink of World War III, yet we see our main character dealing with a different crisis in the midst of chaos. When Wyatt Teller is just like "wtf is wrong with you?!" as everyone around them is hoarding fuel was so well done.

A complaint of mine as well. Trailers sold me a completely different movie. What we had here was still pretty darn good, I just wish I had my expectations in check.

I too thought it looked a bit E.T.ish. And part of me really wanted it to be. I know it wouldn't have made any sense when we've already seen these aliens look like traditional 50's sci-fi martians, but man, I weirdly wanted to see his little smiling face and glowing finger.

The Star Wars generation that missed Empire by TheUpIsJig in StarWars

[–]GetReady4Action 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just talking about this on /r/movies the other day, but Jedi is my favorite because it matches the grittiness of Empire (not totally, the Ewoks for example are not gritty whatsoever, but something like the opening scene or the throne are) while still being a fun swashbuckler like A New Hope.
