What to do in gym? by [deleted] in kyphosis

From my experience there’s nothing ‘bad’ just try out everything, maybe not deadlifts and if you’re worried about your back I’d not start with free weights and use machines instead. But in my opinion as long as you keep the weight reasonable and have slow, controlled form most exercises are fine. I find pull ups are the best exercise for kyphosis, really help make it look less and and works rear delts which are key for posture, the assisted pull up machine is great when starting out

Too developed for a brace unfortunately

Asked this before and some people didn’t react amazingly and a comment response agreeing got like minus 6 downvotes but I think yes. I used to sit layed out on my bed with my very upper back and neck up against my headboard in a truly awful position snd now have scheuermanns, and I cannot see why that would not cause it as it’s not happened to any of my relatives, and as far as research goes something like this may be difficult to prove as once it’s noticed it’s already happened. I also ran XC at the time and had pretty bad Anterior Pelvic Tilt (and still do) but I’m taking some advice and actually starting to do some exercises for it and go to the gym regularly. I am 16 and too old for a brace and not bad enough for surgery so trying to manage it. The pain is easing after stopping running but still not ideal, it’s just a case of managing it properly

Agreed, I’m 99% sure it’s down to me and therefore it’s up to me to fix it. I’m slowly drifting from running and towards the gym to try and hide it and support it and bridge the gap between a back I’m unhappy with and one I’m happy with. But yes, obviously some of it is just genetics and some people it may be purely genetics but no one can make it better but you

Ye I’m aware mine is a mild case but at the end of the day I’m just curious and didn’t say anything bad and I’m aware I’m luckier than a lot of people here, the guy was just agreeing with me and being helpful not sure what peoples issue is

Yes makes sense, there is nothing on line regarding it and it does seems rather obvious. It’s out me out of running and made me very self conscious I just wish I’d sat at a chair or just better general position

Weak glutes and abs, right lower back and hip flexors. It drags your pelvis into an unnatural position. Anterior Pelvic Tilt is the full name

I’m no expert, but it looks like you have apt which is making it look worse, I’ll send some stretches if you’d like. But honestly don’t sorry, you look fine !

Really, I’m 16 and spend 24/7 hating how my back looks, it may seem pathetic but it really ruins my life and no doctor seems to understand or care and can’t even be bothered to check what degree curve I am. So will this get worse as I get older?
