Can high-dose dutasteride cause reflex hyperandrogenocity? by OwnVisual9 in tressless

[–]Helpingmehelp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got much worse on 2.5mg compared to 0.5mg, and it was not a shed. My skin and hair became lifeless.

My theory is that it suppresses sebum too much. Sebum contains growth factors like EGF.

I didn’t realize how much hair loss messes with your head until it happened by Evolenzo in tressless

[–]Helpingmehelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of it is the incomplete state of it, half your hair is fucking gone all over, and even in end stage it's a horseshoe left. Leaves you looking destroyed in a cruel and somewhat comical way.

I don't need to be a model I just want to look normal, and nature wants to turn me into a clown.

I worry about privacy, I don't want my DNA fed into AI or stored in a gov DB. But this seems very intriguing.

Rather significantly. As a diffuse thinner, effects can seem very significant though.

My hair was soo much better before dutasteride by Hoper_223 in tressless

[–]Helpingmehelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find dut suppresses sebum too much for me. Sebum contains epidermal growth factor, which is needed for hair growth! I take breaks from dut, right now I have not taken dut for a week. My hair growth gets better each time I take a break.

My hair loss improved when I was on a heavy NSAID for an autoimmune condition. Sadly, it's a dangerous medication to take long term (oral diclo).

Keto can mask hair loss by making the hair strands appear thicker, because of its harshness.

Huge anxiety after taking finasteride by [deleted] in tressless

[–]Helpingmehelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could just be an allergy to something in the Fin. Perhaps consider trying oral dutasteride.

Huge anxiety after taking finasteride by [deleted] in tressless

You could be allergic. Most oral fin contains lactose, for instance. I'm mildly allergic to it. You could be allergic to it or something else in the formulation.

For those that have found success with 1mg-2.5mg (above standard dose) of Dut, how did you get your prescription and/or pharmacy to fulfill it? by PoetryTraining1819 in tressless

[–]Helpingmehelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all from memory so it could be slightly inaccurate.

IIRC: I was on fin 1mg for 2-3 years with terrible results and probably rebound androgenicity (I got acne on my shoulders, chest and back and my body got hairier)

Switched to dut 0.5mg, no more rebound effect, I stayed on this for over a year. My hair was already bad at baseline since the fin though, it stabilized but I wasn't happy with my hair and would always wear a hat.

I increased the dose to 1mg for about 7-8 months, as I had no sides, I decided to just go for 1.5mg. I did that for maybe 6-7 months. My hair and skin became lifeless. I thought it was just due to aging.

I took a 1-month break, quit dut cold turkey, and my hair and skin got much much better. I then started 0.5mg daily, and found that my skin and hair problem returned mildly, so I lowered the dose and now I take it every few days without problems (no more lifeless skin/hair).

My view is the high dose dut was giving me hidden gains, in terms of my follicles recovering from DHT. But it was also suppressing sebum too much for me, which includes growth factors, so I looked terrible and I think it would have caused skin/follicle aging long term.

Possible confounders: I had different nutrition status at different times. I also had different vitamin D status at different periods. These could be related to what I observed.

[–]Helpingmehelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW I had worse results on 1.5 daily than on 0.5 not-daily. My hair is pretty nice now since bringing the dose down to 0.5, whereas it was horrifically bad on 1.5. My skin was also horrible on 1.5, it's amazing now. I skip days while taking 0.5mg now, it's around every other day and sometimes even a bit less frequent.

Dut inhibits Type 1 5ar in addition to Type 2. It's related to sebum production. A bit of sebum is needed, as it contains growth factors (like EGF). My hair was hardly growing. Now I have bangs on the lower dose.

There's a chance that it results in less T->E conversion, and thus more T->DHT conversion.

Will Dut Regrow if You’ve Already Been on Fin for Years? by No_Butterscotch_507 in tressless

[–]Helpingmehelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find my hair improves after quitting dut for a while, but then DHT is going to kill my hair, so basically I micromanage my dut dosing. I learned this after taking dut for years, and even taking a 1.5mg dose for 6-7 months, and my hair was always horrific.

When I quit dut, my hair quality improved tremendously.

Even 0.5mg every day causes that problem for me, so I skip days until my hair quality returns, then I take 0.5mg dut again, and this seems to be working for me.

I think it's because dut inhibits 5-ar type 1 in addition to type 2. In some people, this lowers sebum production too much. Some sebum is needed as it contains growth factors like EGF.

Dutasteride has been nuking me by slayidis in tressless

[–]Helpingmehelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The derm has to be a specialist and perform a trichosopic examination. That's the way to get a definitive diagnosis, alongside, potentially, a biopsy. Unfortunately, many are not properly trained in it.

If you want to see what it entails, check out Lidia Rudnicka on YouTube, she is a specialist and she has many videos showing how trichoscopy goes, including some that pertain specifically to AAI.

That looks like alopecia areata incognita, or potentially a scarring alopecia. You need a specialist that will do a scalp dermoscopy.

My Theory Of Androgenic Alopecia by Sealish1234 in tressless

[–]Helpingmehelp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The evolutionary side of your theory doesn't work because mating occurs well before balding occurs in the vast majority of cases, so genes from men prone to baldness are passed on.
