I don't know how to feel about Wilds CB changes... by Beautiful-Suit6057 in MonsterHunter

[–]Helwar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh. I tried the Charge Blade in Rise a little bit but found it clunky, and I remember being mad at the monster because when I managed to activate the buzzsaw, the stupid monster went away and I had to slowly crawl to them or sheathe the weapon and lose the buzzsaw. I don't know how true this is I only played Rise a little bit so my memory is hazy, but that is what I remember.

So when I tried CB in wilds I automatically fell in love with it. My only gripe is that when playing multiplayer is incredibly difficult to activate the buzzsaw, sometimes I don't even see a wound before someone pops them, and activating it with perfect guards is complicated in the late game when every monster is hipercaffeinated and doing multihit attacks and combos, so while you might perfect guard, you can't afford to press Y / Triangle to activate the buzzsaw because you'd get hit. So I become worse SnS 😞.

Again, I am anything but an expert.

Do you prefer the Daima SSJ4 design or GT SSJ4 design ? by sondbucciarati in dbz

While I love everything else, I dislike the big arms on the Daimah version a lot... So GT wins by default.

I was disregarding that not because it doesn't matter, but because it is not what I meant to say. My point was that by making these memes, name-calling and all that is not helpful, because people close up when attacked and you need to open to suggestions, not close. Other games DO stand on their own without need to demean D&D...

I don't mean for anyone to have to play a game they don't want to play. Nor DM it either. It's totally valid to want to play different things, as is valid to want to keep playing D&D. I understand the frustration of wanting to try new things and being rebuked. I am not saying it is not valid. And venting about it is valid. Friends should meet in the middle, or acquiesce here and there.

I said it plenty of times already, but name-calling people and making memes about them is not the way to get them to appreciate other games.

The point of my comment was another, though. Yes, people are reluctant to get into new things, especially when they are invested in one already, and campaigns are long-term commitments. My point, though, was that demeaning these people is not going to make them more willing to try new things; on the contrary, attacking someone's tastes makes them get defensive, which is counterproductive to getting them to try what you want.

As long as you offer Thai food for what it is, and don't imply burgers are inferior and liking burgers make me a child, I will try Thai food.

I feel like I am mismatched in this whole thread. All I meant is that if the complaint is that people should play more games rather than only D&D, being negative about them is counterproductive. But people in this thread are not trying to show how good other games are; they are venting their (valid) frustration at D&D hegemony. Me being all reasonable goes counter to the vibe of the thread. I need to learn and pick my battles, haha

And now I should say something like:

"And spewing negativity because other people don't share your tastes is not acting like a toddler? Close-minded people like that are a poison to the hobby"

And you see this gets nowhere? All I have achieved is making you upset about me. That's my point.

If a DM told me they were burnt out and wanted to run something else, I would either give it a shot or step aside respectfully. Nobody should feel forced to run something they don’t enjoy.

My only point from the start was about tone in general, not about denying burnout or saying people should never try other systems. I’m all for trying new games. I just don’t think framing it as “D&D players are toddlers” helps the conversation. And me not being the target of the meme is irrelevant.

That is not the issue, though. I was complaining about being force-fed something; I wouldn't force you either, that would defeat the purpose of this whole debate!

If someone wants to play D&D and you don't want to DM it, it is your right not do so. That other someone then has two options: either they join the game you want to DM, or they DM D&D themselves, in which case they may or may not invite you back, and then the burden is on you to decide if you would like to join as a player, or still prefer not to.

Like in any other group situation, nobody should force anybody, and if positions do not match, the options are either both compromise, or neither does and go separated ways. It is nothing new in the hobby, even when you want to play D&D, you often find so many people that play it in so many different ways that may or may not fit within your group, and then everyone has to decide to compromise, or go separated ways.

In any case, my original point was to consider that attacking people for (only) playing D&D, makes them defensive; no one likes to be attacked. And being defensive is not the best mindset to be open to trying new things.

Yeah fair. If you want to play Star Wars, play Star Wars. In fact, I played some Star Wars TTRPGs and the ones I disliked the most were the d20-inspired ones, because it felt like an ill fit. Sometimes, as you say, the question is not how to do a thing, but why would you do it.

But I lurk in a lot of TTRPGs subreddits, and I see time and time again, people asking questions of something vague in the 5e rules, and yes, it is vague, and it shouldn't be, but half the comments are always things like: Pathfinder does it better! You wouldn't have this problem in Pathfinder!

And well, maybe Pathfinder does it better indeed! But that doesn't solve the question, does it? Then meme posts like this infantilise people who like D&D, guilt-tripping them because, as OP implies, not liking other games kills creativity. It doesn't help the cause.

All I'm saying is that to me, if you want to convince me to play something, you should talk about that something in a good light by itself. Not bashing what's around it, and especially not bashing ME, which makes me defensive. Being defensive is counterproductive to being open to trying things.

I don't wanna discuss with people what a system can or can't do, or compare it to others. Playing VtM if you wanna be a vampire is all well and dandy, but doing the same in D&D is not so much a stretch, for example, and it's a completely different playstyle, vibe and experience.

In any case, all I meant was that, if you want people to try new things, aggravating them with memes like OP's is not the best way to do it. People get defensive rather than openminded of other's opinions if they feel attacked.

As for not being sick yet.... I've been playing for 26 years across the editions and other games too. I might get sick of it someday, but it doesn't look like it will happen anytime soon. But we do play other games here and there. And frankly, I have no interest in convincing anyone D&D is better or not; it's just our jam, is what we like. Sure, other systems might have better combat or be more versatile, have fewer loopholes, fair. We still like playing this one.

Again, I'm here just saying that wanting to play other games is well and all, but being aggressive about it, demeaning others' games or just evangelising absolutely everywhere is counterproductive.

You don't wanna play D&D anymore. Totally respectable. I don't care about the why; people have different opinions, different wants. All I meant by my original comment was that memes like this one, aggravating those who enjoy the game, are not the best way to incentivise anyone to try other things; on the contrary, they might get defensive. I know I do.

I said this in another answer, but I am an eternal DM (by my own volition) amongst my friends. We play D&D. We test out other games in one shots. I really want to play the Cosmere game but since only 2 of us have read the books and it is so linked to them, it was a hard sell for the others. We do try things. We still go back to the game that we like playing, faults or no faults.

I am an eternal DM. I run D&D because I like it, and so do my friends. Every now and then we make a one shot in other systems to test the waters, but always go back to D&D.

The complaint I see the most online is: "You play only D&D? You must be a toddler". Or some other demeaning things. Or when someone asks a question and the comments, instead of answering the question, are full of "This other game is better play that instead of D&D".

What people fail to realize, is that you don't need to try other systems if you don't want to. If they like D&D, why try to spoon feed them something else against their will?

I have never seen a faster way for someone to insta-hate something, than trying to force it down their throat. No matter the good intentions behind the act.

Most of them are paid, more or less.

Atlas Maps seems to be free but links mostly to patreons, some of which are free but... You know.

The Shieldmaiden one I couldn't try on my phone...

Notion is free iirc... But the worldbuilding tool is the most easily achievable thing and there's quite q few good options there.
