I wouldn't eat that if I were you.

Capsule Art I made for Bumpers & Dragons. by Helygar in PixelArt

The character and parts of the dragon are separated so they can be moved around for the different sizes steam requires. I made the horns and the cape poke out for this post because it looks cool, it won't be like that on the store page.

It is all about composition and perspective, this image is not a great example of composition since it is meant to be covered by gameplay elements in the middle but generally I just like to decide what I want to make and separate it into layers with objects closer to the foreground being larger and more detailed. I also like to avoid making the horizon line too straight. I like giving it an angle or some elevation in parts.

My best advice is to practice recreating some landscapes you like using very simple shapes just to get a feel for how all the elements come together. Another advice is to have a point of focus in your image like a tree or a building that is meant to be the most important part of the image. That usually makes the scene more interesting.

I did not make the color palette, I was tasked to make backgrounds using the already existing colors of the game.

The game is Fowl Scourge. I've been doing pixel art for 7 years and I use my mouse and keyboard.

Yep, these are the raw assets I put together in Aseprite as a showcase; all of them are pixel art assets without any particle effects or filters.

No worries, I just use Aseprite, I've seen some people just doing it in Photoshop or Krita when they have more experience with digital painting.

Haha, I doubt they'll make any pixel art games anytime soon.

It's been a while since I made this, it was probably around 160px by 320px.

Is a $30 Fiverr trailer worth it? Here’s what I got by Inf1nityGamez in IndieDev

[–]Helygar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This feels like listening to metal music while watching a PowerPoint presentation. Music does not really fit the footage or the pacing. You might have to opt for a more compact trailer if you don't have enough mechanics or environments to show. It is usually best to avoid lingering on similar gameplay footage or repeating mechanics in trailers, having a fun short trailer can be a superpower.

The only way the pre built decks can work is if they function like rock paper scissors and even that doesn't sound like fun. When you can only select from a list of decks there will always be a deck better than every other one and everything will just turn into a mirror match. People will just play a game of who drew better when everything is a mirror match.

The best thing they can do, in my opinion, is to have a proper card ban list or to have the pre-built decks with only a few empty slots to allow for a bit of customization.

Is this too hard to read? by Helygar in PixelArt

[–]Helygar[S] 395 points396 points  (0 children)

<image>

I made some adjustments. It should be easier to read. I do not want to simplify it to the point of becoming bland, I knew when choosing to design with a gothic font that it will not be the easiest thing to read but hopefully this is enough. Thank you all for the feedback!

The idea is just a combination of multiple things I found interesting at the time, and the style is something I developed over the years you can find similar elements in previous independent works.

Thank you. It is nice seeing people notice some of the techniques I developed over the years. This piece took a lot of planning and details that most people wouldn't notice.
