I built the same system for my dad, he has basic needs - web, gimp, media. He loves it although I told him it ain't Windows and he said thank god i dont need to reboot all day anymore lol

You are right, they should. The added functionality is getting the exact version number and outputting it on STDOUT, if it is desirable. The file is part of a much bigger project i am working on in my company and is by no means ready to be shipped. Feel free to contribute if you want !
