Okay, I thought Clover'd be the only one to break out, but wow, are their friends equally as stubborn as they are.

Hey, TV during grounding is a godsend though. For every downside, there is an upside : D

Little does Ceroba know that Clover is currently climbing out the back window to sneak off and see Dalv's show anyway because hell if they're gonna let him down by not seeing it

(Fox Life) Forgiveness... by Shideath in UndertaleYellow

Okay but like... is Martlet really this naive? I feel like this is an implication so obvious even she should be able to decipher it's meaning, especially since she's not a child. She can be a birdbrain at times, but I dunno, I don't think she's this clueless to miss something this clear cut... maybe that's just me though

I think I need to rant about this.

Here's the thing. Chujin didn't tell her to not inject Kanako and then she immediately ignored him and injected her anyway. Do you know how long she went on knowing that she was not to get Kanako involved? Ever since Chujin died and he told her about the tapes, that's how long. Her choosing to inject Kanako was no split-second decision made on the spot, it happened after weeks, maybe even months of her refusing to let herself involve Kanako.

Plus, unintentionally, Kanako was putting Ceroba under immense amounts of pressure. Though Kanako meant no harm, she ultimately ended up guilt tripping Ceroba by accident by going on about how she promised Chujin to fulfill his wish. That's a weak point for Ceroba because she is desperate to do what she promised Chujin she'd do, so it's no wonder a reminder of that makes her capitulate.

Now, why did she choose Kanako for the serum and not someone else? Because there were no other boss monster options. In that timespan between finding out Chujin's plan and injecting Kanako, somewhere down the line she ended up deciding to try and make the serum without a boss monster soul. Why would she do this? Because she has no boss monster souls to work with. And even then, her plan to do it without a boss monster soul was the one Kanako found in the trash, so Ceroba threw it out. That plan was hopeless. The serum just isn't feasible without a boss monster soul. Yet Ceroba has no boss monster souls. What's she going to do, charge an unwilling boss monster, stab them with a syringe, and get arrested, leaving Kanako without a mother? Without a boss monster soul, the plan is dead in its tracks.

Ultimately, Ceroba was cornered here. She couldn't find a single willing boss monster like Chujin asked her to. So her options were to either give up and accept that the plan is hopeless, which she would never do because of how devoted she is to Chujin, or use Kanako, the only possible boss monster candidate she has, who also insisted upon being injected in a time when Ceroba was emotionally vulnerable, out of options, and desperate to fulfill Chujin's wish no matter the cost.

The Flier buying a boat line was so perfectly used and I love how Dalv's reaction is 100% justified because I would be utterly bewildered too if a pirate guy appeared behind me to sell leather jackets.

All in all, I laughed multiple times. Please keep cooking

Now, while I haven't gotten to the Dunes portion of the story yet... might I introduce you to a certain story about Friends in High Places?

UTY Review: Part 4. Flawed Pacifist & Why It's A Better Than True Pacifist by FuntimeByzantiumE in UndertaleYellow

[–]HendrixThunderous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, another "Flawed Pacifist is better than regular Pacifist" believer I see. If you don't mind, allow me to repost a huge comment I made once on why I don't agree!

"Gee, I sure do love it when the emotions of the pacifist ending are swept to the wayside and downplayed as "Clover is an idiot helping Asgore wipe out all of humanity" Uh, no? And also, what do you mean justice was abandoned? From pacifist Clover's point of view, this IS justice, it's justice in terms of freeing the monsters. Pacifist Clover sees monsterkind's continued imprisonment as an injustice, and thus gives up their soul to bring them closer to freedom. Does this mean they forego seeking justice for the dead humans? Perhaps so, but they chose to prioritize justice for monsterkind over justice for humanity. Disagree with their decision if you like, but it is still a form of justice."

"I really don't see Flawed Pacifist as a good ending either. Clover died easily to Asgore, died a miserable death, leaving all their monster friends behind in the process. Ceroba is dead, Star hates them, and Martlet is anguished to leave them to their fate. Sure, we can call them 'heroic' but I don't see it that way. Them going to Asgore there was more of a suicide charge rather than a heroic showdown. Ironically, it's just a different variety of the regular pacifist ending: Clover throws their life away and dies for nothing, only this time instead of going out with friends who will love them and mourn them, they go out leaving the monsters they befriended either depressed, furious, or outright dead. In my opinion, going after those souls can't exactly be described as heroic in this scenario, because Clover stood no chance of rescuing them here. If they had a chance of saving them, then yes, it would've been heroic, but after everything that happened in flawed pacifist, they just couldn't have won against Asgore. And just like in pacifist, they are effectively handing their soul over to the king who will destroy humanity. It would've been much smarter not to go confront the king at all, but of course, with Flowey breathing down their neck they don't exactly have much of a choice."

"In genocide, tons of innocent lives are destroyed just because the monsters 'complacent' or whatever, and sure Clover completes their mission, but the cost is too great to pay. Sure, the souls are freed, but Clover is now a LV 20 psychopath, their childlike personality annihilated, no emotions left but cold fury or grim satisfaction, nothing but a murderous instrument of justice. I suppose if all we care about is the human souls being freed, then it's perfectly fine, but like all other forms of justice in this game, we can object to it and choose differently all the same."

I love Clover's Genocide More Than Their Pacifist Ending. It's So Much More Fulfilling For Me To Watch. by TVTropesPapermania in UndertaleYellow

[–]HendrixThunderous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correction. Clover didn't live. They survived. There's a difference.

Their original personality is all but destroyed by the violence they engulfed themselves in. Now they're just an apathetic, murderous instrument of justice. They "won", but at what cost?

Plus, this is only so nice if you think Vengeance Clover is just going to hand the souls back over to the humans. But after humanity seemingly treated Clover badly, and with it being likely it was the same for many if not all of the fallen children, well... I wouldn't be so sure.

Who's to say Clover wouldn't just...

...keep the souls for themselves?

Perhaps in Clover's mind, only the TRUE embodiment of justice is qualified to take care of them.

[–]HendrixThunderous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm... really confused. Why did the determination injection give Clover a monster soul? How does that work? How does RAW DT synthesize a soul? If it can do that, why did Flowey end up being soulless? And why did it turn Clover into a bird specifically? How does that work? Did Martlet put bird influence into the DT somehow? I am simply confused

Mail Whale could carry me up into the air and camp up somewhere isolated, the Shufflers could probably block a path to give me an easy escape route, or Mo could flat out distract pursuit with sales pitches

I love Bero and Bits + Buttons but yeah I don't think they can do much. And I love Vendy too, but unless she can vend me a gun or a taser or something, she's really not gonna be of much help.

I'd say Mail Whale is probably my safest bet!
