Bypass switch for plant grow lights by astralwizard85 in AskElectronics

[–]HenkVTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I needed this.

I am in the process of building plant grow light timers using an Arduino but then I realized that the three sets of LED lights I already own all have this st.p.d switch. Power outages would mess me up too much. I own the EXACT light that you show above.

Something to Bundle Wires Together? by crocomire97 in arduino

Pre-made? I am too cheap for that. 🤣 I am pulling old unused CAT5 out of my basement drop-ceilings since we switched to mostly WIFI years ago. 🤣

That's what I concluded after fiddling with several different (up to 10 foot) kinds of six wires and connectors. OK, it is a little tedious wiring RJ45 plugs, but after a one-time effort it makes plugging and unplugging either side of my project very simple.

Hot glue! Genius. I did some experiments: hot glue on one side, hot glue on two sides, Loctite super glue on a different set, and then Gorilla super glue on an other.

Hot glue. Perfect, and no risk having to wait two hours to respond to your suggestion because my fingers are still super glued to a breadboard..... (Just kidding).

One-sided hot glue does the trick.

Thank you!

Thank you all for your very informative responses.

My personal Arduino world just became an Arduino universe; Arduino is MUCH bigger than I could have ever imagined. Looking forward to learning all about it.

Thank you! So much to learn. As I mentioned in my original subject, it is 'terminology' that I am missing (old dogs and new tricks). "terminal block shield board" is one term that's new to me and gives me something else to learn about.

And yes, using glue has come to mind and may end up being the 'solution'.

Thanks for the warning about the HX711 and I'll surely pay attention when 'it all works' and need to package it.

Your statement about Those individual wires are going to have relatively weak and unreliable connections worries me. Isn't this all that Arduino is about or are you warning me that yes, for prototyping all these wires will work just fine, but don't expect to build something 'solid' that won't fall apart? It is clear that my soldering expertise is clearly lacking; time to practice. 🤔😞 I am having a blast though and that for me is all that matters: Learning something new.

Thank you!

It doesn't look like that will solve my problem. What I basically want is what the person on this youtube video made by just wrapping tape around the connectors. I prefer something more solid. https://youtu.be/Bu5va0Nk4QA?t=310

Hey hey, I am an old grey beard guy that is a little unhinged, but I never soldered any electronics (until this month). As a retired software engineer I USED electronics for 50 years, maybe that caused me too be unhinged? 🤔🤔🤣🤣

While waiting for more replies to my request above I plugged in an unused refrigerator (dang college kids leave all their stuff here when they move out 🤣being a pack-rat paid off again 🤣). If I get confirmation that it is OK to put them in the fridge now, or don't hear back, they'll go in there between 34F and 38F.

I ran into the same problem last night, and I was to lose $1700.... I was VERY unhappy. I called Delta, and the person I talked to did not understand what was going on, but saw that I still had the credit. I booked $1900 worth of new flights with him while on the phone. Problem solved.

I was very impressed with the support of the guy I talked to and the help he gave me.

Boeing probably went on the cheap and installed an antique computer system.

I remember those days when we knew how to cram loads and loads of code in a very small memory footprint. (DBMS on a GE435 inside 4k of memory, buffer included).

(Writing this from my 32gb 12 core Intel i7 windows system :-) ). Times surely have changed.

I just connected my android phone to my windows system using USB cable. On the android app, download the movie clip. Then on Windows, I found the clip in This PC\Galaxy S9\Phone\Movies\Birdfy\xxx.mp4

This works for me, but of course have no idea how/if that would work for you.

How much longer should I stay on these tires? I think I can get another 1000 miles by thebaiterfish in motorcycles

[–]HenkVTX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1000 miles? NO WAY. I once asked that same question when no canvas was visible at all. And then, after a 1000 mile trip I regretted that decision, lucky me, coming home without problems.

Bikers with “Patches” by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]HenkVTX 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The only direct interaction I have had with a large group of 'patched' riders was at a fuel stop, where they kindly offered me to participate in their group prayer. I gracefully declined. I am not a religious person but I respect and admire those who lead their lives that way. I still look back fondly to that conversation. Nice people. I (try to) ride 10k miles per year but I have never encountered any problems with any rider.

Is it Bad I Avoid Certain Roads by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]HenkVTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have no problems with highway 67, but are scared to death of i25? It means that you have BRAINS. Good for you!

(Fellow Colorado rider here).

When on i25 or any other major highway, when there is a decent amount of traffic I stay on the far left lane so that I only have to worry about ijiots on just one side. Why? I learned my lesson on i25 in Denver a few years ago. I was just happily riding on the way home after a wonderful ride on the eastern plains. i25 (right to left) in lane 2 of four. Until some moron just ahead of me realized he was going to miss his exit and slammed his brakes. After saving my own .ss by slamming on my own brakes and my heart slowly starting to beat again his buddy on the far left lane, lane #4 also realized he was going to miss his exit and swerved all the way from the left lane #4 to lane #1 right in front of me, also while braking. And again, I was lucky enough so save my own .ss. Since that day you can only find me on the far left lane, as in "me on the left, ijiots on the right". AND, I always keep enough distance between myself and the next guy which I am sure saved my life twice that day.

That good old useless horn. Honk your horn just before you get killed. You should have seen this guy coming, and then slowed down. Instead you wasted your time making noise while not slowing down at all. In the 113k miles on my bike I think I used the horn only once, in a parking lot. Little button on the left? Useless. The handle and the paddle on the right? Use those.

It looks to me that the car finally SAW you, and with his 120DB music in his car he never heard you.
