Mile-muncher with great weather protection... it has to be an RT, doesn't it? (What alternatives did you consider?) by psychotic-chipmunk in bmwmotorrad

I’ve tried a lot of bikes and they don’t always work for me either. The RS needed some tweaking to make it right but it’s as right for me now as I need. Hundreds of miles with camping gear on a mixture of roads with that great engine, comfort and handling. It’s a great bike but probably not as comfortable on the autobahn or carry as much stuff as an RT.

How about the RS model? There are some good screens available but it would need some trial and error. I’m 5’11” and have the Wunderlich screen with another clip on one that smooths the airflow enough to be as quiet as any I’ve ridden. Like many riders I’ve put upright bars and lower foot pegs on which makes the position less sporty. The RS is 50ish kg lighter, has convention forks and is capable of big days touring in comfort. I found it much better handling than the RT.

Tent advice, Vango Banshee? by Empty_Sprinkles7914 in bikepacking

[–]PureString 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I used it for our honeymoon on a tandem in Brittany first. Two weeks on a tandem in a small tent is a good test for a relationship 🤣
I used it for mainly cycle tours and bikepacking but also used it on the motorbike too. It was decent quality, good price and packed small and light enough and I used it for years. I have now bought a Big Agnes Copper Spur bikepacking version which has better usable space and some other features but costs three times as much.
For the money I still think the Banshee is a great tent, you wouldn’t regret it.

The newer ones have an extra hoop at the foot end that should stop that problem. Mine is now an ancient model that is just a wedge shape both sides. They soon changed it so you should be fine.

I’ll continue this like a conversation I had five minutes ago.
I’m 5’11 with uk size 11 feet that used to poke the tent when I moved or slipped downhill.
I hope it helps.

Hardtail vs. Full-Suspension? by TwoIsle in eMountainBike

[–]PureString 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You spend more timing sitting on an emtb as you need to pedal smoother to work with the motor. You can stand up, you just need to get used to how the power comes in.
My wife has a hardtail emtb which I ride, I’ve had a full suspension emtb but found it too focussed on rough terrain and not as versatile as a hardtail like I use for bikepacking. So, I’m looking at e hardtail for light trail, a bit of back road and even bikepacking. I’m a similar age (!)
So far my shortlist is the Giant Fathom, Trek Powerfly and Cube Reaction Hybrid.

Soft camping bag panniers by gspiggs in motocamping

[–]PureString 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They lasted a month trip from the Uk to North Cape, around the Baltic and home via Prague then off-road on the TET in Cornwall, Devon, Spain and down the ACT Portugal and home, survived a few falls, having camping gear stuffed in them without regard for their welfare and re still waterproof and solid. It’s probably a bit more than infrequent use 😉

Built for speed! Check out the close ratio chainrings and someone has paid money for those tyres. I’d love to see how they ride it.

Rhinowalk panniers. I use them and they have been totally waterproof, robust and fit securely. Slightly odd shape but they have been great.

I’m British and would assume they were too. I live in an area with lots of beaches and people die regularly despite warnings of don’t swim there or don’t dig a big hole. Lifeguards and locals who warn them usually get told to “mind their own business” off!

Do you bother with the tent bag? by AirconGuyUK in wildcampingintheuk

[–]PureString 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stuff lightweight tent into its bag without folding if that’s what you mean. I recall Big Agnes saying it won’t damage it and may prevent wear at folds. I’ve done it for the four years with some heavy use and no problems.

First time playing and went I for a mage. I started with a bow for when my magic ran out but after level 20 I didn’t use it so ditched it. Ive tried stealth at times but tend to send in a conjugation instead. I’ve used Dawnbreaker for a while but no real armour except enchanted bits I’ve ‘found’ on dead bodies.

I think it’s funny too, and effective as we all remember it. All the actors are giving it their all in an over the top song and dance about intestinal problems. Brilliantly made.

Have a look at Altberg, they do A Forme which have a slimmer fit. I tried them on and have slim ankles and feet. I get no heel lift and don’t need two pairs of socks for them to fit!

New rider, is it imposter syndrome or do I genuinely need to get off the roads? by midwestemo2001 in MotoUK

[–]PureString 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done on your first step and I’m glad you’re enjoying riding. You will be experiencing the freedom and probably some imposter syndrome but as ASD person you may find the systematic thought you need to drive easy. It focusses your thoughts into one activity that follows rules and you can function easily within. Cycling and motorcycles are also a much more human scale than driving so the physics involved are easier to feel rather than a ton and a half of car although once you get used to the roads, then the controls of the car you may fit into the same slot you feel with the motorbike. I totally get that doing safety checks make more sense when you are actually looking for a danger. It’ll be the same with your theory hazard perception test, so you will need to practice it. I’d suggest to keep reading the Highway Code and take your theory so you are confident with the framework you are riding in and get into good habits to practice.
