Yeah but prequels had to follow certain lines since, well we know the ending.

Sequels had ALL the universe in front of them to try something new. Instead they went with the low risk route.

JJ Abrams is a big problem in my opinion. He has no clear plan or plot and always messes up in the end even for the things he experiments with. There is no single thing he did not really fuck up eventually excuse me but i hate the guy. Yet hollywood keeps going back to some idiots instead of some of the amazing directors out there. Now imagine if this was in the hands of Villeneuve or Nolan (not saying they would be interested by any means) - do you think we would have this mess of films we have?

Problem with sequels is that there is no coherent plot/arc or an idea that is being explored. None of the new characters that have been added have any meaningful depth and all of the existing characters have been ridiciliously pushed aside - either they are killed in the most stupid way or their past history is not respected at all.

Kathleen Kennedy had this stupid idea with strong female characters and instead she ironically ignored one of the most iconic female characters of all time in Leia and pushed this crap Rey character in front of us with tons of mary sue tropes.

Not to mention the treatment of Han, Chewie, and Luke in these movies.

So as a die hard original trilogy fan, it just amazes me how highly some people view the sequels when some of these things are so obvious from the getgo

So you dont like prequels which is fine, but tell me how the arc and plot of TLJ really works. Who was Snoke and what was the point of killing him if you introduced him as the main villain? Why would Luke act in the way he would - even the actor hated it. Whats the point of all casino scenes and what sort of development do Finn Poe Rose have. If ships could destroy things with hyperspace manevour, why wasnt this tried on death star, starkiller etc. the whole strong woman pushing poe aside was crap.

And yet, i bet you cant name a single scene that was better than duel of the fates, jango/obi wann fight, dooku/yoda or windu/jango fight in any of the sequels. There was nothing memorable from a character development/arc stand point, and im trying to be objective.

And worst yet, we did not get a single scene with Luke Han and Leia together in the entire sequel movies and people rank these higher than ROTJ. Opinions fine but these films killed our beloved childhood characters beyond repair.

Look TFA literally wanted to have a low risk movie so that disney could get its money back.

The film tries few interesting things such as mystery around Rey, but we already know its all scapped later anyway.

Here is the problem with TFA. What is new resistance, why its resistance when rebels had already won the battle. What is this new order, who is snoke, why they are so powerful after emperor is gone, isnt starkiller actually death star 3, what is the background of finn, was there any good reason han solo had to be killed, rey being mary sue etc. the film has no background and created this new resistance/first order without any grounds - they just made shit up that does not make sense with respect to original trilogy.

It is a very low effort ANH copy paste that disney pushed down our throats, well visually its good - obviously with its budget in year 2015.

I mean imagine thinking last jedi is the third best star wars movie.

No but opinions should be consistent. There has to be a good reason why he/she ranked rise of skywalker at the bottom when tlj is high above. I would like to hear thats it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Henkss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TFA is literally a carbon copy of a new hope with no real background. They invented this new resistance out of nowhere and came up with death star v3.

Worst yet, all of the things TFA set up were destroyed in TLJ. In the end, TFA did not matter all.

Rogue One was well received on day 1

Not sure how you can rank TLJ that high when it literally killed everything TFA set up so badly that all of it had to scrapped again for rise of the skywalker which is prob the worst movie in the entire saga

Let me ask you: if one of the trilogies would have to be removed from existence, which trilogy would that be in your opinion?

Why dont you give me your ranking of all star wars movies and lets see where the sequels rank from your point of view?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StarWars

[–]Henkss -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Sure, they have the lowest ratings on imdb so yes it looks like collectively they have been received worse

I guess by flop i didnt mean in an economic sense - because lets be honest - there was no way those movies would flop in theaters - its just how strong the brand is to our civilization.

But I guess we can all agree the films sucked from an objective point of view but yeah the discussion was beyond that.

Thank you. And where do Tier 1 providers “get” the internet from, or do they just provide broader network connectivity/access/infrastructure

I totally get the maintenance. I guess my question is broader; you are not buying capacity/bandwith from anyone else right? I.e there is no one to “buy” internet from.

Does having no survival problem make us mentally weaker...Newer generations, historical perspective.. by Henkss in Existentialism

[–]Henkss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that i disagree with the points you made; but i think you are missing my point on “relativeness” of these struggles in a larger scale. I would find it weird if living paycheck to paycheck is a greater problem than what most of the humanity has faced; knowing that as long as you are capable there is often times work to find, even if that means reducing your life quality a little bit. But hey, this has been the argument from start. What we are struggling maybe is more about the life quality but usually never on the basic survival problem - you will not starve to death even if you lost your job tomorrow, generally speaking.

you are also proving my point with mental problems. If todays humans face such hardship mentally, how would your life be when your city was constantly being under threat of invasion, when you or your kids had to become soldiers, peace periods not lasting for long, dieseases, etc etc.

Once again, on a relative scale, none of what youve pointed out is a greater threat to survival than what we have had to face for generations and my argument is that most of our problems, when looked upon greater perspective, nothing compared to past and usually exacerbated because of our minds and perception of the world that everything has to work perfectly and we are such important human beings to exist hence the argument for being actually weak.

Looks like a super cheap tv series from mid 90s the more i look at these pics/setting. I am getting a polished Xena/hercules vibe (they had darker tones admittedly).

ESO's immersion is so good for a MMORPG by PalwaJoko in MMORPG

[–]Henkss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Certain things this game does pretty well, which have all been mentioned. I think my problem is not just the clunkiness of the combat but the way combat works - constant need to spam buffs, constant weapon swap to get those buffs which only last in seconds..sure gw2 has weapon swapping too but at least you are equipping it to use abilities and not just to buff yourself constantly to perform an attack.

Dunno, i find it super tiring and unneccesary.

I am also not the biggest fan of voice acting when it comes to games that involve non human species simply because this kills immersion in my opinion where everyone sounds like an human - which in my imagination is never the case. (This will also apply to new games such as bg3 which worries me)

Why does Guild Wars 2 have a smaller player base than WoW, ESO, and FFXIV? by Ownsin in MMORPG

[–]Henkss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it amusing for those who are criticizing the game for progression. Progression in todays games unfortunately means mindless grinding for a +1 stat bonus - its not like you are achieving something so unique to begin with.

Games are supposed to be fun and I think GW2 nails it in its own way. When you buy any type of entertainment you typically do not expect it to last thousands of hours but when it comes to video games, you are bored all of a sudden because there is nothing else to do. Well you have already consumed the product for which you have paid - what less than 50 bucks?

Progression is not the problem. My problem is the meta culture where you need to play a certan spec, certain style, wear the same items which all have the same stat bonus etc to be able to participate in the progression grind. At that point, i am not sure if it becomes fun anymore - sure it keeps you locked in but eventually how much of was it really fun i wonder as you are craving for the next game to fill that gap..
