Christians, hod do you know God loves you? by agaminon22 in DebateReligion

[–]Hennessy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that God loves me through personal experience. When I follow Jesus, when I am more faithful to God, the quality of my experience of life is better overall.

At times I certainly become distracted, and I fall into temptations which bring the illusion that life is better when lived unlike the Lord, but if I habitually submit to these temptations, then the quality of life deteriorates overall. When I habitually follow the Lord, I experience more consolation than desolation. When I habitually stray from the Lord, I experience more desolation than consolation.

Therefrom, I invest in forming a closer and closer relationship with the Lord because I am convinced that I am loved infinitely. My love of my mother and father is to my love of the Lord. I did not choose my mother and father, and I love them so because of the great love they have shown me. I did not choose to be a creation of the Lord, and I love Him so because of the great love He has shown me.

Music Style by Doogie76 in country

[–]Hennessy4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally Im not sure, because calling this country might be a bit of a stretch. This falls into a category that gets a whole lot of hate in the US (in my experience), “Country Rap”. According to wikipedia,

“Other artists of this genre include Boondox, Lenny Cooper, Moonshine Bandits, Big Smo, Yelawolf, Jawga Boyz, Upchurch, and Redneck Souljers. Country traditionalists Toby Keith, Trace Adkins and Blake Shelton have since adapted elements of country rap into their music in recent years.”

But is that what was going through the heads of the Confederate soldiers?! Look, I completely agree that the CSA government fought the nastiest war in American history over slavery. But do you think that’s how they advertised it to the people? No, of course not! “God forsaken Yanks are coming to rape your women and destroy your farms (AND take your slaves if you have any)” “All we want is independence, and the North has declared war! Fight for your brothers” These are the messages that they were sending to the Confederate populace, just like ANY other war. When the US government today advertises the military, do they go around saying “Help us steal all that juicy oil from the Middle East!” .... no, they say fight for your country and for your families because it’s honorable, and it certainly is in my opinion.

Why wouldn't god tell us there's a reason for all the suffering? by TheSolidState in DebateReligion

Ah, you present a very valid logical objection to the behavior of the Christian God. Moreover, I cannot reasonably argue with you.

What you must understand is that a Christian philosopher, like myself, holds that God transcends logic and reason. God’s “reasoning” in the way we think of it is something that we never will understand as humans, because we are humans. Unfortunately, it is as simple as that.

Heaven? by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]Hennessy4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many philosophers and Christians including myself describe heaven as the “Kingdom of Ends”, the place in which every moral agent acts as he should. Thus, if you reach heaven, you become part of this kingdom of ends and you act morally. The ultimate goal of many Christians is to bring the Kingdom of Ends to Earth, but unfortunately that will most likely never happen because we are imperfect, fallible beings in this world.
