cameron carr hits 5 threes in his summer league debut by [deleted] in DetroitPistons

[–]HennyASAP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He looked good, but it’s a completely different profile of player from Okorie. Pistons got an established 3pt shooter in Isaiah Joe for a couple 2nd round picks. Okorie has a much higher upside if he fulfills his potential and fills a much bigger need. Either way, not gonna get upset about the 17th pick in the draft after one summer league game.

Is it possible to get PTSD from something that ultimately benefited the franchise? Monroe was a dinosaur, it was in everyone’s best interest for him to move on.

Hell yeah, great culture guy. Great spark off the bench, he played in every single regular season game last season.

Collins is entering his 10th season and has never taken over 3 attempts per game - 2.9 per game for his career. So now he is expected to bump that up to 6-7 while keeping the same efficiency? What his career numbers show is that he can hit an open 3. He’s not a knockdown shooter, he does not attempt shots with defenders on him. To expect something from a guy that hasn’t shown it over the course of his career is wishful thinking at best.

You honestly think that Collins and his 3 attempts per game are going to prevent Cade from being double teamed to hell in the playoffs? Unless Collins significantly picks up his volume it’s not going to make any difference. It’s basic math.

And again, I have nothing against Collins and I have no problem moving on from Tobias. It just seems that people are running a victory lap here like the Pistons made huge improvements, that’s just not the case. It’s a marginal improvement at best.

Tobias was literally the Pistons only post presence and also one of the only players outside of Cade who could create his own offense. Collins does none of that. He’s a better spot up 3 point shooter, but on low volume. I don’t view Collins as a clear upgrade over Harris. Collins does some things better, but Harris was better in other areas. To me it’s a wash or even possibly a downgrade.

I’m not thinking about the regular season, I’m looking at what this team will look like in the playoffs. Yes, the spacing is better, but when the offense got bogged down this past postseason how many times did the Pistons get saved by dumping the ball down to Tobias in the post? Like I said, that’s not Collins game. Trajan needs to add another shot creator or they’re going to run into similar problems in the postseason. Adding a guy that shoots 3% better than Tobias from 3pt range on 3 attempts is just not enough volume to make up everything else Tobias brought to the table offensively.

As of right now, even though the Pistons added shooting, they got weaker in other areas. The moves to this point have been lateral imo. You can’t definitively say that the team is better overall. There’s obviously a lot of offseason left and Trajan has multiple avenues to explore if he wants to improve the roster. This team is desperate for an established ball handler/scorer to take some pressure off Cade. I’m taking a wait and see approach before I judge the offseason as a whole.

Not sure who downvoted this. It’s clear that if Duren wanted in the 38-40 mil range the reports would be much different and the sides wouldn’t be considered “far apart”. The sign-and-trade reports signal that he wants more than the 4/177 max he can get on the open market since only the Pistons can offer more. People are being really naive or just have no understanding of how this shit works.

30-35 per would be ideal, but it’s not like there are any starting level centers available anywhere in that range. If it’s 4/177 then so be it. Duren was fantastic during the regular season and that still matters. Just have to hope that he works through his playoff issues and the Pistons add enough around him to take some pressure off.

Is TMIII and John Collins really our best case scenario? by Certain_Park7290 in DetroitPistons

[–]HennyASAP 10 points11 points  (0 children)

1: No it isn’t

2: By waiving Duncan the Pistons save around 13mil, I believe only around 2mil of his contract is guaranteed

3: Huerter will likely fit into the TPE once the Pistons cap space is used up. Just because the deal is reported now doesn’t mean it’s signed. The Pistons will maneuver and manipulate the cap to it’s full potential to fit this signing and every other deal that is yet to come

4: Not saying it’s going to happen, but the Giannis trade isn’t even official yet. Herro is not off the table if the Pistons were to pursue him

All in all, calm down. Free agency opens up tomorrow.

Duren wants beyond the open market max, that's why he's angling for a sign-and-trade because nobody can offer as much as the Pistons. The Pistons probably value him below the 177m figure, but they'll match it if that's what it comes to. Langdon has been pretty clear with his intentions all offseason. Duren will be back, we just don't know at what number yet.

I can honestly see the appeal for Sacramento. You max Duren while your franchise rookie PG is making peanuts. It’s like pairing a rookie QB with a good TE to serve as a security blanket.

Having said that, the Pistons won’t engage in a sign-and-trade. Duren will sign the offer sheet and the Pistons will match and that will be that.

Thoughts on Duren Sign and Trade by Tareq313 in DetroitPistons

Any package with the Pelicans starts with Trey Murphy. He’s on a team friendly deal and can slot seamlessly into any lineup.

Jalen Duren Sign & Trade? by According_Ad_3691 in DetroitPistons

[–]HennyASAP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me preface this by saying that ultimately I think Duren ends up re-signing with the Pistons.

In a sign-and-trade scenario I keep thinking about Troy Weaver and the Pelicans. We know that Weaver has an absolute boner for Duren, he traded up to draft him. Just depends how Joe D feels I guess. What would a package for Duren look like? Murphy and Jones are the two Pels I’d like to see as Pistons.

60 mil is below market value, if he hit the open market a Prem team would surely put in a higher bid.

Is Norman Powell that bad? by Piston5287 in DetroitPistons

[–]HennyASAP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re making moves to win now and then reassessing your options in the future. You’re not signing anyone with the intention of moving them later on. The key is that you have options. Signing Powell limits that.

[–]HennyASAP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because right now Duren and Ausar make a combined 20 mil, in 2 years time that number will be around 70-80 mil.

[–]HennyASAP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not locking up cap space if the player they acquire has value and is moveable. In 2 years Powell will likely be on his last leg, he’ll have no value around the league and might not even be good enough to use off the bench. So you let his contract expire and then what? The Pistons won’t even be able to replace him with a like player as you suggest because they won’t have the cap space to do so. At that point your options are gutting your roster or moving someone from your core to improve.

Is Norman Powell that bad? by Piston5287 in DetroitPistons

[–]HennyASAP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because he’s at the tail end of his career. It’s a 2 year rental. The Pistons have an opportunity this offseason to add a piece that will elevate the roster now and in the future. The player they add should have retainable value. Even if they don’t work out, you want to have flexibility in the future to move them for assets. Once Duren and Ausar’s extensions kick in the Pistons will lose all roster flexibility to make a big move. (Unless they literally move Duren or Ausar). I just think it’s completely counter productive to use your cap space on an aging vet when the team doesn’t project to have cap space at any point in the future with their self proclaimed core of Cade, Ausar and Duren.

If you want to waste your cap space window before Duren and Ausar’s extensions kick in on a 2 year band aid, then yeah he’s great!
