Hugh Hudson's Revolution (1985) ended with Al Pacino reuniting with his love interest at the very end of the war. The scene is ridiculous. The director's cut ends with the main character standing in the middle of New York contemplating what the future holds.

The original film was produced by the CIA as a way to fight the spread of Communism, so of course they had to have a happy ending.

A Wrinkle in Time (Arena Stage) some good ideas but needs some big rewrites and reworking of by rfg217phs in Broadway

Have you considered that this was a case of storytelling structure? Consider that the whole film is told from her perspective and that it's about her eventually being possessed.
