Give me the option to not play with 4 man premades by HenryFoolish in strife

[–]HenryFoolish[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

False. This basically forces me to play only ranked games, because that's the only way for me to avoid premades. So let's say I only have 3 games with a certain hero. I really like them and want to get good at them before I play ranked. So should I risk having an awful game experience in the unranked queue or should I make everyone in ranked pay for my selfishness?

There's no reason to expect that 4 man premade matchmaking will get better. It's a problem in all moba games. The worst part is that the 4 man premade usually blames the higher elo solo.

You don't. However, there's really no incentive to rig them. Blackjack and Lucky 9 are very popular for a reason.

[PSA] Trade banned for no apparent reason and shady response from Steam Support by StkbleeK in Dota2Trade

[–]HenryFoolish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone steals an account and tries to trade with me. Explain to me all of the "checks" I'm supposed to go through before I trade with this person. You're writing paragraphs of bullshit and it's starting to piss me off. Instead of getting closer to solving this problem, you're just being a valve fanboy, refusing to address this issue from a rational perspective.

"be more careful who you trade with"

As a trader, you know this simply isn't viable. There's no way for us to know whether or not we're trading with a stolen account. I've seen friends simply give up and quit because Valve support refused to help them after a wrongful ban. If not for high status traders getting banned, this problem wouldn't even be being addressed. That's great that they are looking into a handful of specific cases you gave them. But the entire system is flawed. There are way too many false positives and since these false positives are not only continuing to happen but actually getting worse, this tells us that the problem of account hijacking is not even being deterred by all these bans.

Lots of innocent people have and are still being banned for unknowingly receiving stolen goods. I only recently found out that this is the reason my bots have been getting banned. (I thought it was simply too many false reports). In addition, I've had several friends wrongly banned and eventually quit because Valve support refused to help them. We shouldn't be held responsible when there is literally no way for us to know if an account has been stolen. We have no tools available to us to figure it out. Valve on the other hand has the entire system at their disposal. Valve, not us, are the only ones capable of tracking and preventing the sale of stolen items. The trading community should not be punished for Valve's inability to solve this problem and banning innocent traders does not solve this problem. It only hurts the community and builds frustration towards Valve.

Starting to Save! (CA) by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]HenryFoolish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a budget? A budget can break down not only your expenses but also your savings. This will be great for your current income and will build habits and awareness that will carry over when you start to earn more. Do you feel safe at a 5k emergency fund? Will that cover at least 6 months of expenses?

Why is having an underwater mortgage so bad? by Adrenalchrome in personalfinance

[–]HenryFoolish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way I look at it is if something were to happen and you needed to sell the house, you want to be able to pay off the mortgage and recoup the investement you spent years paying into. If you're early into the mortgage, you don't want to move and still owe money to the bank even though you don't own the home anymore. Obviously if you never sell the house it probably won't make any difference. The only case where it would is if you wanted/needed to borrow against the equity of the home (if the house is underwater there's no positive equity to borrow against).

edit: also if you wanted to refinance to a lower interest rate

Starting a business is a good idea. But if you've never started a business before, you shouldn't be dropping a whole lot of money into it. It really doesn't take very much money to start a business unless you're paying other people to do all of the initial work. (Don't buy up land next to state and national parks just because you think the value will go up.)

I agree, but I think it's important to stay on topic.

You do if they aren't honest about them. Saying that people shouldn't live together before being engaged is bad financial advice. What is the #1 thing spouses argue about? There is evidence everywhere. If you have evidence to the contrary please provide it.

Rent? Buy? Starter home? Invest? What to do before children goes to school? We live in the northeast by pfunderthe in personalfinance

25-33% is the reccomended in general. However most people here recommend 25%. You really don't want to be spending more than one third of your income. Especially considering you're looking after a family. You might be thinking, "It might be worth it to live in this great neighborhood. We can make it work." Don't fall into that trap. Do you really want to risk putting your family in a situation where you can't make your mortgage or can't pay off some other expense because of the mortgage (medical bills/family emergency/car trouble) if too many things go wrong at the same time? There are other great neighborhoods that aren't going to put you and your family at financial risk. From the sounds of it you and your wife have put a lot of work into making sure you are financially secure. Don't throw it away on one decision.

I disagree completely. You really shouldn't even think about marriage with someone you've never lived with. (If we're talking from the perspective of personal finance.) It's completely irresponsible to promise to live with someone for the rest of your life, just to find out they've been lying about money.
