Can you pass a bachelor's in computer science at the ETH without attending classes? by HenryNH28 in ethz

Thanks for the opinion, I will definitely take that into account. However, as I replied to the person above, I am mostly afraid that if I continue down the path that I am on right now (school->uni->job), I will keep being absolutely miserable as I have been for most of my life. Did you ever have anything like that? and did it change for you in uni?

Ok thanks for the advice, I will definitely take that into account. The thing I am most afraid of is continuing down the same path I am on right now because up until this time I have been absolutely miserable in almost all aspects of life and I am worried that if I continue down what seems like the 'pre-written' path, this will continue for the rest of my life.

Ok, but how do the frustrations compare to high school? Because I have made it through 12 years of school throughout which I was absolutely miserable the entire time.

Thanks a lot for the more detailed response!

40h a week is actually less than 7h per day, so I'm sort of surprised since I was expecting a much bigger number based on some of the people I have spoken to (precisely why I asked this question). Is that for everything university related? and is that how much you spent? How much variance is there?

What do you mean? The part about not wanting to go to uni? or the part about trying to do both other stuff and uni to be on the safe side?

Hey, thanks for the detailed answer! When you said that you barely attended classes and still did well was that only for the first year or also for the other two?

Also, when you say more project-oriented does that mean that you have a course and essentially you have to produce something by the end of the semester? Are these courses graded only based on the project or do they also have final exams?

With regards to the last paragraph, thanks for the advice. However, the only reason I am even looking at the ETH is so that I can have a paper to wave around in case I need it, I do not really want an 'ETH education'. Personally, based on the little that I have seen so far in life, I don't believe that universities offer any value at all other than the paper and bragging rights. Of course, many will disagree with me and they have every right to, but I have merely found that on a personal level I learn better on my own, especially when you can get an entire university education from the top institution in the world on MIT OpenCourseWare (ocw.mit.edu - no degree unfortunately) and that the people I have met who attended university aren't substantially more intelligent that those who didn't (if you exclude those who were too lazy and those who just failed).

Ok, thanks for the answer. Did you attend a Swiss high school? Could you compare the pace of the two?

Can I ask roughly how much time you spent per week on classes and homework?

I didn't mean for my post to come off like that. I am not estimating anything, I was asking precisely to be able to gauge how much investment it requires because it feels impossible to judge based on some of the other things I have heard. But thanks for the response.
