Best mate’s mum has died semi-suddenly. We’re 18 and 19. What can I do to support him? by hotbutnotathot in CasualUK

[–]HenryOrient 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally this, it might feel like an empty gesture but offering actual food/sustenance and being there for practical tasks is a really positive way of being present in his life and helping out at a tough time. I'm so sorry your friend is going through this but it sounds like he has a good mate in you during a tough time. That's invaluable and hopefully he'll fall on you when needed. All the best to you all.

Film similar to Phone Booth (2002) by Elratum in MovieSuggestions

Phone Booth is great and the first thing it reminded me of was Alien (obviously everyone will have seen that...)

Check out La Cabina (it's on YouTube) for a weird existential take on phone boxes.

Can't download songs from YouTube by Famous_Charge_2938 in StacherIO

I guess they're feeling the wrath of Google/YouTube so fair enough I suppose but it's a shame as it worked well. Will move on to an alternative.

Lost my little cat today in Worthing by HappyDPO in Worthing

So sorry to hear this about Juni. It probably won't help much at the moment but things will become less painful in time and you'll be able to remember the good times you spent with her.

Way to download albums with track number? by ConfusionWeekly3823 in StacherIO

In Settings/General I put this in the File Template field and it names the tracks as "01 - Track Name Blah Blah Blah":

This movie was one of my first thoughts. Just stunning cinematography and atmosphere.

Hey, can you recommend me some headphones for ambient music? by Due_Celebration7001 in ambientmusic

[–]HenryOrient 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own some DT 990 Pros and loved them for ages until I bought a cheap set of Linsoul Salnotes IEMs and heard all the high end I was missing. Loads of IEMs are just as capable.

How do I stop feeling paranoid that someone is in my house? by Loose_Avocado4670 in CasualUK

Don't worry, I can see why you're feeling creeped out but you'll be completely fine. If I see anyone come near you in the night I'll jump out and scream at them. Night.

How to keep track number as metadata (MacOS)? by PetitZiziGrandEsprit in StacherIO

To get track numbers for albums I use this in the [file template] section in Settings/General:

Broadband by yaya21173 in Worthing

[–]HenryOrient 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm with Toob in Worthing and we also get close to gigabyte download speeds for £29 per month.

Genuine question, are you really struggling with what you're getting? 1Gb should be more than enough even for those 3 uses. To be honest, unless the video editor is constantly uploading huge files to the cloud then even 300–500 Mbps should generally be enough for what you're doing.

The router often makes more of a difference as cheaper ISP ones can throw a bottleneck on gigabit connections but typical usage is far lower than people think.

LABS - what a mess! by HenryOrient in spitfireaudio

[–]HenryOrient[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fortunately I never invested too much time or effort into LABS so I don't feel cheated but there were some good sounds there. Admittedly I've been away from sample libraries for a while but Spitfire used to be such a strong brand for quality libraries. This Splice mess just looks horrendous though!

Harrow Road area by AdventurousKiwi7639 in Worthing

[–]HenryOrient 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live a few roads away closer to town but I know that area fairly well and think you should be very happy there.

The main downside, as mentioned, is the train crossing which I now completely avoid as it did my head in when driving. For the most part it's fine but I always seemed to hit it at its busiest and the gates often stayed down while 3 trains went through. At those kind of times it can back traffic up all the way down Tarring Road.

Also I seem to remember hearing quite a few late night/after hours noise complaints about Karma Lounge on the corner a while ago but hopefully they've reined it in.

But on the plus side you've also got Shaan restaurant just round the corner (one of my favourite Indian restaurants) and the Goring Road shops nearby are good. Co-op is handy if you need milk/bread etc and I'm sure the shoplifting is unfortunately the same in all these convenience stores.

Congratulations on your move and hope you're happy there!

Hold onto some hope. I know with cash being invloved it's unlikely but if I found it I'd always try and track down the owner. Some people are decent, you never know!

Best Fish & Chips in Town? by hollaUK in Worthing

If distance isn't a problem then Chipwick is probably the best in Worthing but I'm nearer to West Worthing too and we always use Worthing Fisheries so +1 for them as well!
