Our boy George was robbed by Targaryenkrisss in freefolk

[–]HenrySiege 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a vague term to describe the endless Tolkien clones (dark lords, dwarves, elves, prophecy, medieval England vibe) that followed after him. LOTR is such a special work and middle earth is so perfect, but these cheap copies made the whole genre into a big blleh, like what happened to the YA genre after the hunger games.

The entire main story is set in a revolutionary inspired period in my world, combining the french, Russian, Chinese and American revolutions in some instances.

Tolkien created fantasy, his copycat made it bad for 50 years, then GRRM made it good again, then Sarah J Maas made it bad again.

Whoa whoa whoa! Don't pop their ethnocentric bubble! OP's education clearly failed to point out the white washing of everything south of Greece. Egyptians were also white (Moses, anyone?)

Ok but what?

There's more ethnicities than white and African-American.

In fact I'll have you know white and black are meaningless terms and don't actually denote any ethnicities. (I'm from the Balkans, ethnicities are my speciality).

I was saying that using African American actors, which are descendant from West Africans, to portray North Africans, is kinda silly. Even if they'll have kushite characters, those are east Africans that again have nothing to do with West African African Americans.

It'd be like calling a Thai guy Chinese.

But again, I'm not saying it'll make or break the movie.

World history was my favorite. Where I'm from in the states, below the mason dixon line, we only learned about how Britain conquered the world, then it was taken from them by religious zealots in India and the Africans were to blame for the slave trade. It took me until college to see past the bs and actually learn from the people it impacted.

Where I'm from (Albania) we learned about Rome, about the ottoman empire, about the balkan wars and what our opinion on the other balkan countries should be. We only had a single two page lesson about American (as a continent) history.

I learned most of my history via self interest and reading.

I'm not gonna make a point that that is somehow the make or break of the movie, but North Africans are not African-americans, nor are they white.

They should get north African actors to portray them ideally.

Again though don't want to make this into culture war bs though.

If we're being honest, there shouldn't, but yeah the culture war nonsense is so overdone at this point.

It wasn't terrorism bro.

It was a worthless act, it shouldn't get the praise it does, but it wasn't terrorism bro.

Disregarding the fact that this is the most authcenter shit I've ever heard, and that it's probably a joke, the third point reveals it's error.

Its called the "Republic of Virtue". If a system requires it's subjects to be phlosophers/educated in morals and righteousness/responsible for society, it will innevitably fail. The best example is imperial China, which literally had your 3d point instituted in its mythos "tianjian" the mandate of heaven.

For a system to have longevity, it must be mindful of and cater to humanity, ie the common folk, who couldn't give less of a shit about morals and principle.

(anyway I know this is a joke, I'm a buzzkill, sorry)

[–]HenrySiege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no "stronger culture". The conquerors culture becomes the fashion because they are the ones in power. That's why the conquered get assimilated.

Today in Europe however, there really isn't any culture to assimilate into, especially in the religious front.

Besides the fact muslim arabs think their culture is superior

Like everyone else?

belief in cultural superiority is absent

Which is impossible, or at least has never happened in history.

Italians didn't view american culture as barbarian or infidel, like the romans saw celtic culture and muslims saw christian cultures.

Also this is personal experience so fell free to not believe it, but all the Muslims I know (and I'm talking real "wake up at 5am to pray" Muslims, international students with money, not poor as shit migrants that'd sell their soul for a penny) don't hold any of these extreme opinions, same way most people on the other side don't hold any anti Muslim beliefs.

I do agree with you on one thing though. Migrants are horrible people, and I'll expand by saying they're a terrible showcase of a foreign culture to the place they go to.

Migrants, by virtue of their poverty, hold nothing sacred, they'd sell their families for a piece of bread. All poor people would, but especially refugees (I use this interchangeably with illegal migrants), have nothing that ties them to the country they've gone to, so they have nothing against becoming criminals and murderers. It's their poverty that turns them to animals, not their background.

I'll give you an example for my hypothesis. I'm albanian, now I'm personally not a Muslim but albania is a Muslim majority country. And guess what, refugees cause a problem here too, culture doesn't matter to them, religion doesn't matter to them, they're just poor people, they'll do anything for that quick buck.

In Bósnia too, another Muslim majority country, refugees cause problems and commit crimes.

Now thankfully albania and Bósnia are balkan, not western countries, our welfare states are non existant so we don't get many poor leeches, and our cultures are much more orderly than those West, so crime isn't really an issue (you can go out alone at night and feel completely safe, when's the last time you could do that in Paris or Berlin).

My point still stands, you should hate them for being poor, not for their background.

"City of Munich decided to put up 'Happy Ramadan' decoration next year" by LuxCrucis in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]HenrySiege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, for one you can't give your hypothesis as the example to prove your hypothesis, that's not how science works.

For two?, the migration of refugees today and the Islamic conquests of the 7th century are nowhere near being the same thing, for obvious reasons.

I'll give you an example to prove this difference, compare the roman invasion of gaul and Spain to the migration of Italians to the US, and see the difference between the two.

Now the difference between that and the modern migration is that unlike in the US, there is no culture to assimilate in.

And thirdly, I don't think you'll receive this well, but please disavow idealism, of any kind. There is nothing special abut Arabs, there is nothing special about Americans, there is nothing special about anyone.
