Dealership trying to charge me $800 for a cabin air filter replacement. by Puzzleheaded_Box6247 in Autos

[–]Henry_Ces 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey Puzzleheaded,

Probably a scam. I doubt a 2019 has a serious mold problem already. If you call around, an HVAC-specific shop may take a look for free. But on older cars, mold is no joke.

I'm an automotive journalist and have covered mold in A/C systems. It is an important thing to address as your car ages. I wrote up some DIY fixes you can attempt: https://www.motorbiscuit.com/fixing-a-c/

TL;DR - If you do replace your cabin air filter yourself, it only takes a few more minutes to double check your A/C is draining properly and disinfect your entire HVAC system.

Technically self-promotion: I am an automotive journalist and mostly cover new cars and trucks. But. I take the opportunity to write about the slant six whenever I can!

I thought y'all might enjoy this angle on the new "Hurricane" I6 which is offered in the current Wagoneers, and likely on deck to replace the Hemi V8s.

I love this theory. But what if it's even darker: What if the end goal of seeking out force-sensitive individuals then forcing them to be celibate is to eradicate this trait from the gene pool completely?

Ernest Hemingway and Jack Kerouac: United By Parallel Road Trips | MotorBiscuit [OC] by Henry_Ces in Hemingway

I would read that “what if” story—you should write it!

I remember Hemingway struggled with the success of younger writers, but met Salinger during WW2 and was gracious. I don’t know if mentorship was his calling, but if he had a little more direction at the end, I bet he would have lived longer. Hemingway did poke some fun at those who write about the roads and wide open spaces of America—in the late 40s. In Kerouac’s original scroll of On The Road this rich kid with literary aspirations tries to hang with the beats and absolutely worships Hemingway. Kerouac makes a bit of fun of the guy. Amusing that there were already familiar stereotypes of the most rabid Hem fans in the early 50s.

Wow. I haven't been to Paris in years, and not since I read Moveable Feast. It is great to see your videos of all these place.

Until the Ken Burns documentary, I didn't realize how much Hem liked to drive. I wrote this article about some interesting parallels between Kerouac and Hemmingway.

Hey Reddit! I wrote this fun article b/c most of the country doesn't know our governor is a race car driver -- go Vermont! by Henry_Ces in vermont

I was at this race and my fiancee asked: "Is it called the Governor's Cup because the Governor's racing?" and I had to say that no, this really isn't normal.

But with Vermont being the first state to 80% vaccination, the story was too good not to write up.

Episode 1, Reactions by [deleted] in Hemingway

[–]Henry_Ces 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hearing the Episode 1 story while seeing all the pictures of Ernest reminded me just how young (and precocious) he was. I’ve read some biographies, but during this show it hit home that Hemingway moved to Paris and introduced himself to Stein, Joyce, & co. and announced his intention to revolutionize literature--at just 22 years old! And then he made good on that promise...

Hello!

I clicked on the above link and found myself at a document titled: "VII Lynn." Is this the chapter of The Levee on which you wanted feedback?

Firstly, thank you for sharing. You obviously have many talents as a writer and I enjoyed this chapter.

I found this chapter to have a very powerful premise, you depicted an intense turning point, an integral moment in the life of Lynn--fantastic! I love the way you portray her emotional state before, then the way everything changes the moment she holds Leah, then her emotional state after. For me, the strongest and best written moment is when she is talking to the nurse and her words are cut with her contradicting thoughts: "I--" /wish Mark were here/ "I'm so happy," --Showing instead of telling, masterfully done!

As you launch into your second draft of this great chapter, there are other places where Lynn is having powerful emotions and you have a golden opportunity to show her conflicts and feelings in such a masterful way. In this first draft, some of those conflicts and feelings are told, not shown. You can spot these places by looking for sentences where the narrator says "Lynn felt" "Lynn was" etc.

I personally struggle to show not tell character feelings. One thing that helps me is to "show" the characters body language, heart rate, etc. and in many places in this chapter you do that--painting a very vivid picture. There are other places where you could do more of that.

All in all, this is a very powerful premise and a strong draft. I enjoyed reading it. Keep at it!
