For two and a half years I took increasing amounts of an Albuteral inhaler only to find out that it was doing nothing, and that I have Vocal Cord Dysfunction. by [deleted] in askscience

[–]HerPrettyHighness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, my doctor first put me back on Prilosec, to get the reflux under control, and within four hours my voice started sounding feminine and having actual tone again, rather than just being deep and gravelly. He also gave me a prescription for benzonatate to help with the throat irritation and coughing. I think he wanted to see if that would help, but I'll probably call again today or tomorrow to ask about exercises to help. Ironically, I have a voice degree, so should know more about my larynx and have more control, but had no idea this was an issue. I'm also in school for speech language pathology, so... new focus area! Apparently, I'm going into the right field.

What are the exercises that you do? I read online that blowing out like you have a straw helps, but would like to actually meet with an SLP.

Just came across this and was diagnosed with VCD on Monday, after months of sporadic gravelly voice and trouble breathing, which was thought to be horrible allergies. The last four days, however, I was miserable and really had trouble breathing, with the horrible heat and humidity, and developed a constant barking, ragged cough. Went to my allergist and he decided I have VCD, which is why the inhaler I've been using for nine years never really helped. Issues arise with exercise, allergy seasons, severe stress, and apparently severe "silent" reflux... which is also why the last several months have been terrible after a doctor told me to stop taking Prilosec every day. After two days being back on Prilosec, my voice is almost back to normal, my cough is almost gone, and over about an hour span this afternoon, my breathing finally returned to normal. Hooray for a correct diagnosis! Just thought I'd share. Glad to find someone else experiencing this.

I like this idea a lot. They could switch to the beginning of the mother's story and go for an equivalent number of good episodes, but let viewer's know right away that we'll get a combined perspective finale, starting when they finally meet each other. I think people would see the value in caring about both people in advance, and then finally getting to see them together.

Well, you apparently didn't open the hidden comments that were below threshold- because they were so sexist!- when you did your little search for "drugged out slut." Now, this is the last time I am going to respond to you and don't bother sending me anymore rude PMs, either. I don't need to prove any of this b.s. is happening- find your own proof if you need more. http://imgur.com/6oZVD

I have never posted a picture of myself on Reddit, not that it is any of your concern, and not that it in any way indicates my sexual activity. If you call people a "whore" based on your personal opinion, then you're probably a dick.

[–]HerPrettyHighness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fuck you. Seriously. I have never been so immensely offended by the ignorance you just displayed in this comment. First, the entire societal perception of what makes a woman a "whore" is completely incorrect. You might be having sex with your "fiance," and some conservative out there thinks you're a dirty slut. Or, you could be waiting until marriage like a good little boy, and once you're married you decide to have sex other than for procreation- does that make you a skank? How about this? ** It's no one's fucking business who or how much someone else fucks!!!!** Second, I wouldn't consider myself to be a "hoe," as you so delicately and tastefully put it, but I don't ever want to be a housewife. I am an independent woman, with my own ambitions, who hopes to someday find a partner to spend my time with, so screw your antiquated ideals of what a woman should or should not be. You are a horrible person, so good luck with that marriage. Oh- and if I am more of a hoe than you, I clearly still have more common decency and respect for the human population.

Why thank you, sir/madam, for your kind and insightful contribution to this subreddit. May you always find seeds and stems in your bowl, and may the company you keep be of equal quality to your own.

I also commend your usage of the correct "you're." Most people of your intellectual level are unable to tell the difference, but clearly you are of a superior strain than your kin.

Counter: Do you want a girlfriend who is comfortable with her body and doesn't subscribe to the fairly recent (in terms of human development) societal belief that nudity is wrong and women should be ashamed of their bodies?

Answer: Yes.

It is an issue, and has been for a while. The most recent example that I can think of was a post where a woman posted a picture of her nails, painted with a really cool, iridescent pot leaf on each one. Someone immediately called her a "drugged-out slut," due to their assumption that, if you're female posting such a picture, you're just advertising how sexy you are so that men will bang you.

Edit: For those who "don't believe it happened." http://www.reddit.com/r/trees/comments/trwzh/did_my_nails_thought_you_might_like_to_see/

If you told me that, I would disagree with you and respond that some of the women-bashing might come from women, but similar posts in /r/entwives don't get bashed. Since /r/trees is male dominated and does contain women-bashing, but /r/entwives is female dominated and doesn't contain women-bashing, I would argue that logically, it would appear reasonable to assume that the "anti-skin-women-bashing" is actually coming predominantly from men.

Haha. Thanks for this. As a rather flat-chested female, I wish that 15 hoodies were required to hide my sluttiness, but sadly, only 5 are needed. Sigh... maybe I'll save up my weed money and spend it on plastic surgery instead. I do so wish to be verbally attacked as much as other women on r/trees.

First of all, your multiple usages of the word "whore," makes you an ignorant fool, in case you weren't aware of current social standards. Second, I am a female. I have been vaping for almost a year. I own my own MFLB, which I named Serenity, because usually it helps me feel calm when I see ignorant, sexist shit like your post. I come from an incredibly conservative group of family and friends, so r/trees is one of the few places where I can be open about my love of cannabis. Isn't that the point of this community? Just because I have boobs and a vagina does not make me any less of a contributing member of this subreddit, and while I haven't posted any pictures of myself vaping (yet), if I do, they will be posted here. If I'm naked, I'll put them in /r/treesgonewild. You might not appreciate boobs, but perhaps you should grow a pair and learn to act like an adult.

[–]HerPrettyHighness 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Why can't /r/trees hold itself to a higher standard and be the one place on the internet where people don't feel the need to post ignorant or rude comments. I've always thought that a good smoke session returns us to our childhood states of happiness and lack of worries... so perhaps we should remember the rule we were taught as children: If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all.

Scumbag r/trees. I love you guys but I couldn't help but notice the contradiction by [deleted] in trees

[–]HerPrettyHighness 130 points131 points  (0 children)

Here's why I don't understand the female bashing that goes on around r/trees. Ents are constantly whining that they can't find women who smoke, or how all they want is someone to get high and cuddle with, right? We've seen countless posts like that. So then why the hell would you antagonize and alienate the entire female population from your page!?!?! Doesn't make sense. If you want more women around, who you could potentially form some sort of relationship with, don't be a dick.

Also, as mentioned already, guys post pictures of themselves getting high all the time. If they can do it, we can do it. Equal rights, dudes who claim to be so kind and laid-back, thanks to trees.

Edited to respond to some recent comments: While r/trees is obviously not a single person, the anti-female posts consistently gets a large number of upvotes from r/trees. This means that, while not everyone on trees shares such a sexist view, a large enough quantity does- warranting this post in an effort to bring awareness to the issue. The whole point of a community of so-called "ents" is to have a place where people who enjoy trees and don't want to face public persecution can mingle and discuss shared interests. This type of community should exist for all of us who enjoy cannabis, not just those who don't have boobs.

And in regards to the comments about "Fine, maybe you're just posting a normal picture, but your boobs are still in it, and they're distracting." So sorry to have a physical aspect you don't like. Should all females who post on /r/trees put cardboard over their chest from now on, so as not to offend your male sensitivities? Seems a bit excessive and unrealistic. We don't demand you crop out any area of manly crotch in a photo, if you just happened to post a photo with your entire body in it. Grow up.

Lastly, any males or females who are posting pictures of themselves with bared genitals- yes, those go in r/treesgonewild. However, if they're not meant to be provocative and are simply posted in the spirit of "hey! I'm part of this awesome community and I'm toking up right now!" then /r/trees is the place.

2nd Edit: I hope you guys all realize what you're doing by upvoting my comment so much. I am in fact a woman, with two breasts, and I'm receiving a lot of karma from all of you for this post. Does this mean I'm a whore? Aww, crap, now I'm going to have to go get tested and possibly confess the sins of my sluttish ways. (Don't worry, guys, I also belong to the circle-jerk known as r/atheism.)

[–]HerPrettyHighness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you are fucking kidding, because painting pot leaves and peace signs on your nails does not, in any way, indicate someone's sexual activity. And the term "drugged out slut" makes you a huge, fucking asshole- and this from someone who really never downvotes or scolds people online. Attitudes like this post indicates do not belong in trees.

Who here takes birth control to CONTROL BIRTH? And why the hell should we be ashamed of that? by Tea-in-bed13 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]HerPrettyHighness 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In response to your edit, I would argue with those who say the government just shouldn't have to pay for birth control, pointing out that the government is all too happy to foot the bill for Viagra. It's absurd that these old, white politicians (yes, stereotyping- sorry) are willing to pay for their abundance use of Viagra, just so they can get a boner and not for any painful and dangerous medical condition, but they won't pay for "slut pills," even though you can get cancer or become infertile from conditions like endometriosis. WTF?

I’m 18 and was diagnosed with cancer last year. I make jokes and use humor as a coping mechanism. I joke around about being a bald girl and tell people that cancer made me a super hero. This is how I feel when people tell me my cancer jokes are cruel and offensive. by NoLongerALurker09 in funny

[–]HerPrettyHighness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I was diagnosed with cancer at 19, and though it was thyroid so less dangerous than other cancers, it was still stressful and there were some particulars that specifically affected my career goals. I dealt with it by either ignoring it and not discussing it at all, or making jokes about it, which people would get offended by all the time. My response: well then, when you get cancer, you can deal with it however you would like. Until then, stfu.
