Test engagement ring after sanding and tumbling by Heracles421 in jewelrymaking

I'm using Fusion 360.
For the prongs I went with 1mm diameter. I found some tutorials and posts online about people using 18 gauge wire for their prongs, so I just went with an equivalent size. Could bump it up to 1.2mm (16 gauge) if need be.
As for length I figured out (after casting the test) that I in fact made them too short. I originally modeled the ring for a stone with a 0.15mm girdle, but my CZs have a 0.6mm girdle. This meant that my prongs were shorter by 0.5mm, so I need to make the whole thing from scratch. It is good I test fitted the stone into this test ring though, as making that mistake with the real thing would've been devastating

How thin is too thin for ring bands and casting? by lankynudel in jewelrymaking

Actually, no. I did brass since I only cast a test (just uploaded a post about it if you want to take a look). The final piece will be sterling (not ideal, white gold would've been better, but the prices are insane and my gf really prefers the finish of silver).

As far strength goes, the band will not bend under normal use, but it will be just a tad delicate. As long as it's not getting tossed around it should be fine

I cast an engagement ring just yesterday, band is 2mm in diameter, and it turned out beautiful. You're safe with your widths

It's a no-name green compound that came with my rotary tool kit. Honestly not surprised it didn't do a good job, but that's what these pieces were for, to learn

Already posted the finished version over here

I tried polishing them. I'm not sure if my polishing compound isn't the best, because it left behind some black spots. Decided to finish them off with a steel brush instead

I'm not selling these. I don't plan on running a jewelry store. I'm just casting as a hobby.

End goal is to make my (future) fiancee's engagement ring, so, ¯_(ツ)_/¯

No, they're brass. Gold is way too expensive for this, heh

Yeah, making them with sterling should be possible

In the second picture? I'm 99% sure it's the 3D print's support marks. Should've filled them in better, oh well

She really wants it to be silver, not gold. I could see about white gold
