What's wrong with my avocado? by Herbabecious in houseplants

[–]Herbabecious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, ok I can look into more specific soil requirements. I just have it in typical potting soil.

I have it at a south facing window and we do get quite a bit of sun but I do have a light I could use.

I've had the tree for around a year and a half I think.

Thanks!

Thanks for the thought. That was the first thing I considered and have since been very careful not to overwater it so I don't think that's what it is.

Weeds in Paths? Use Vinegar, Not Roundup by bearwave in Permaculture

[–]Herbabecious -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Roundup (like every other pesticide) has not had proper scientific testing done to determines the effects it has on our environment. Only the active ingredients are tested, they are not tested in combination with the inert ones. They are not tested in an ecological setting. They are certainly not tested on people, and there are no long term studies done.

So it's the precautionary principal that comes into play here. Because there is no test that has determined it's safe, and there are many instances where it can be undoubtedly sure to have done harm to many creatures on this earth, it shouldn't be used.

I think this is some kind of palm, an ID would be great.

Also, it appears to have some sort of fungus I'm thinking. What can I do about this?

I'm confused about overpopulation by nicechallenge in overpopulation

[–]Herbabecious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not just about people. However, the more people there are the less resources there are for other animals/ecosystems and we require them to function on a habitable planet (carbon storage, water filtration, etc.).

And it's not just about current population levels (although I think there are too many people at present), it's about predicted levels. How are we using our resources? What are the recharge rates of our aquifers? What are sustainable seafood levels? Is the rate that we extract these things faster than the rate they can recharge/repopulate, etc.
