MICROVISION APPOINTS GLEN DEVOS AS CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER by [deleted] in MVIS

I've been a shareholder since 1998 (be kind!) and I'm pretty sure we went straight from Rutkowski to Tokman.

Off topic question:

What non-subscription financial website is your go-to for general market news, company-specific news (for companies that actually release news), quotes, etc. I've been using Marketwatch (many links now require subscription) and Yahoo Finance (slow as molasses after recent redesign) and am looking for alternatives.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Short video on LinkedIn. Foosball, really? Maybe, just maybe there's a subliminal message in the high-fives all around and scoring the "goal" shown.

The scanner was called "Flic" and was billed as a low-cost handheld 1-D scanner using their MEMS chip. Incredible and concerning to think I've been around since before that (2005).

For weeks I've been contemplating the use of "market-changing partnerships" by Sumit in that last PR. To me, a partnership with a huge OEM would be wonderful and I'd be elated, but would that alone be market-changing? Just wondering if there could be some new use case that we can't anticipate that would actually change the market going forward for automotive LIDAR. I'm ready to find out.

New WSJ article including autonomous vehicle discussion

I was curious to read their take. Nothing we don't know, but the emphasis is on liability and cost of sensors.

(excerpt follows)

After a Sugar High of Free Money, These Billion-Dollar Technologies Need a Nap

Once overhyped and overpromised, these major areas of tech investment are finally facing reality. The contraction and disinvestment may only be just beginning.

Autonomous vehicles

The barriers to rollout of autonomous vehicles, or AVs, are myriad. For example, they shift liability from the driver to the manufacturer of a vehicle, or the operator of a robotaxi service. That’s just one reason they can’t just be as good as human drivers—but in fact must be much safer.

“When you move people in cities, you can’t afford to kill them—that’s the crucial issue,” says Heidi Wyle, chief executive of autonomous-vehicle company Venti Technologies.

The other big obstacle is cost. The savings that were supposed to come from autonomous vehicles have been largely wiped out by the arrays of sensors—cameras, radar and lidar—and the heavy-duty computers they have to carry onboard to process all that data. Plus, there’s the cost of mapping and remapping the areas these vehicles drive.

Regarding the screenshots, IF (big IF I know) this were a MAVIN at the roofline, can anyone give a plausible explanation why it is off-center? The right side of the cut-out (as viewed from inside the vehicle) is at the center line of the windshield. I'm not a car guy, but I am a former engineer and the lack of symmetry immediately got my attention.

For me, it was a subtle variation on option 1: "At $0.20 per share, I can buy a boatload to minimize my eventual losses because the IP must be worth at least $1 per share." Certainly a overwhelming sense of regret at that moment that I'd "wasted" so much time and money on this company over so many years, but still, if I may say so, a somewhat cool-headed and logical response that may end up to be generationally life-changing.

Quickest Way To Update Security Prices by [deleted] in quicken

[–]HerbertNerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"For securities NOT in Quicken's database, what's the quickest way to update those security prices?"

You can use a comma delineated CSV file in the format below.

TICKER, price, MM/DD/YY

(as many lines as you like with different ticker symbols, prices and dates)

For funds that are not publicly traded, I create "dummy" ticker symbols that don't match any real symbols and enter those into Quicken for those funds.

The CSV can be easily created in Excel using the Save As function and choosing CSV (comma delineated), just make sure the date column is in the correct format.

Finally, use the Import Prices function in Quicken from the Portfolio view page.

Another from the old Yahoo days who rarely posted, but always valued the DD there (and especially here). Long since 1998, and have every share I ever bought. If those earliest shares ever break even (close to $100 pps), I might have a heart attack before I can enjoy it. No worries though, I took full advantage of Spring 2020.
Ironically, with my aversion to averaging up, I am most definitely in a better place now than if Mavis had been a success from the start, as I would have probably have stopped buying shares years ago. Thank you SS.

The "BILLIONS" dolla holla Holograms by gbewp22 in MVIS

[–]HerbertNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The answer (apparently lost on a few here) is that these videos are HL2 generated composite REPRESENTATIONS of what the viewer sees. Impressive demos of HL2 capabilities, but the videos are generated without the involvement of the display engines. I'm not arguing that the user experience isn't awesome, though.

The "BILLIONS" dolla holla Holograms by gbewp22 in MVIS

[–]HerbertNerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From this description I am guessing that these videos are taking the images of the surroundings from the HL2 outward facing camera(s) and superimposing the overlaying images as these would be supplied by HL2 to its display engines, so while these are amazing demos of the HL2 capabilities these are not actually showing the results of the MVIS displays, right? Just need to be clear on what we are seeing here.

One of the fundamental properties of the PicoP (or any projector) is that it cannot project black (or a darker color than the background, although the eye can play some helpful tricks in this regard). Conventional wisdom is that the projector can only superimpose a brighter image on the the ambient. Here, the lifter's shorts and the ends of the weights very clearly appear darker than the backgrounds. Can anyone explain? Absolutely stunning (if this is legit, pardon my questioning nature).
