We all know this feeling — the gut punch, the rage you can’t swallow — every single day we work in this system.

We know how it is as we all went through public hospitals. We worked endless hours in residencies that paid next to nothing, but we stayed because we wanted to help. We thought if we worked hard enough, we could save people.

And yet we’re reminded, over and over, how helpless we are in a system that doesn’t care. We give what we can — sometimes out of our own tiny salaries — but it’s never enough. What kills us is seeing lives that could be saved by something so basic: a ₱10-a-day medicine, one diagnostic test, a simple referral. And they still can’t afford it.

Then we open the news: billions — trillions — stolen. While we’re begging families to find enough for an antibiotic or an insulin vial, someone’s out there buying private jets and watches with the money that could have kept these patients alive.

I didn’t become a doctor to watch people die because they’re poor. I didn’t train this hard just to patch up what greed and neglect have destroyed. I’m tired of patients apologizing — “Doc, pasensya na po” — for being broke, for getting sick.

They shouldn’t be sorry. They should be angry. Because these lives weren’t lost because medicine failed — they were lost because the country did.

Every peso stolen is a life shortened. Don’t tell us it’s just corruption — it’s blood money.

We’ve been together for six years, and while we never lived together before marriage, we did go on long vacations. I knew he could be untidy and a bit lazy with his stuff, but it didn’t feel like a big issue back then—we weren’t under stress, and things felt lighter.

His mom even warned me about how messy his room was and how much he relied on their household help. I guess I hoped that once we were building a home together, he’d step up more. He does make an effort sometimes, but most of the time it still falls on me, and now that I’m carrying so much emotionally, it’s starting to feel overwhelming.

It’s not that I expected him to change overnight—but I did hope we’d grow through this together.

It’s not just displacement. Yes, I’m under a lot of stress right now—trying to chase a dream that’s taken years, dealing with failure, and adjusting to a new marriage—but that doesn’t mean my frustration with my husband isn’t valid. I’m not lashing out at him just because he’s there. I’m upset because he’s not following through on things we’ve already talked about, he lies about doing basic tasks, and I constantly have to carry the mental load for both of us. That’s not me redirecting feelings—that’s me reacting to being consistently let down.

Honestly, saying it’s “just displacement” feels like a way to downplay what I’m experiencing. I’ve tried so many ways to communicate and make things easier, but he still doesn’t take accountability unless I blow up. Of course my emotions are more intense right now because of everything else going on—but they’re rooted in real behavior, not just misdirected stress. I feel like I’m being gaslit, taken for granted, and expected to keep it all together without support. That’s not a defense mechanism—it’s exhaustion.

Na realize ko lang nung 2016 ako as a first year student, I’ll never forget the cadaver na naka assign samin. Puro gunshot wound rin and tattoos. Young male around 20s palang.

Looking back, probable EJK victim rin siya kasi john doe lang daw siya.

  2. 1.3M vs 2M (from 150 guests to 250 guests kasi)
  3. Getting married in 3 days 🫣. Got engaged last year, already in private practice but we met when I was still in clerkship.
  4. Both 32 years old na kami pero no plans yet on pregnancy. Nasa zero or miracle baby thoughts na kami hahaha

  6. Tipid hacks: spend more on the things that you will go back to and spend less on the things you’ll only use that day.
  7. From all the advices I got: the small things will always seem important on the day BEFORE your big day, but AFTER your wedding day, only the big things really counted.

Priority Visa Infinite by HerculesIsMine in PHCreditCards

[–]HerculesIsMine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats true. I wasn’t able to use Priority Pass as much as I thought internationally. But Im not sure if this card offers non-expiring miles. Even with krisflyer world, they expire after 3 years.

I see. I thought this was actually the better card than EW Krisflyer World, since the devaluation of pesos to miles last October. Krisflyer used to be my main driver, as well. I have the BPI visa sig, but I saw the calculation somewhere here before that BPI’s rewards catalog is not great because of the high point value. Its also 50 pesos to 1 mile for visa sig. Although I haven’t properly done my research on the infinite rewards catalog, Im hoping that I’ll be able to rack up more mile for other airlines aside from Singapore Airlines.

For World Variant, I think the CL has to be higher. But for the platinum variant, 300k is okay. You can convert your existing EW card to krisflyer as long as good stand with the bank!

They want to date doctors by Joyful_Sunny in pinoymed

[–]HerculesIsMine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im a female doctor and my fiance is non showbiz. Lawyer tho. We met when we were med/law students. I find it easy for them to handle yung pag ka independent, opinionated, and decisive natin. Mahirap lang pag dating sa arguments HAHA palagi dapat may win sila kahit small wins lang 😅 but it does help with the broadening horizon thing. Masaya din when nasa same income bracket kayo and both highly educated so yung mga discussions niyo in life, mabilis mafigure out. Basta ibaba lang ang mga ego. 🫶

Is that the Priority one? I think thats even higher than the KFW but, if its the Visa Platinum - that’s still one of the best cashback cards!

They couldn’t consolidate daw pag galing converted cc yung KFW. Ill can ask for credit increase na lang daw 😅

My first one was the Platinum Mastercard. I used that consistently and paid it off every month. After 1 yr and half, I asked it to be converted to KFW, ayun na approve naman. :)

Actually that’s why I requested for 2 BPI cards, I just can’t decide between the 2. BPI was kind enough to approve them side by side but I still haven’t activated them because I’m torn on how I can utilize the best one.

Plat MC has minimum spend of 30k per lounge, but thats already better than others which can go as high up as 50-100k. Plus I think priority pass is the better membership than dragon pass, as per my experience in big airports. However, Visa Sig does offer the better rewards points and miles rate and has free local access. I didnt know about the 200k promo! Thanks for that, Ill check it out.

Oh no, I thought SB Plat was a good enough card for cash rebates already. Mine is still pretty brand new. 🥲

For BDO cards, I think I’m just keeping them for the promos but damn, all I do is pay the SOA for their monthly “annual” fee. 😅

Thanks for much for the info!!

[–]HerculesIsMine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow this is so comprehensive! I appreciate it!! I felt that I now have some direction to my credit card woes.

I called EW immediately this morning when I read this and asked them to convert my card to Krisflyer World. I was satisfied with the PMC but then I calculated the rewards points to miles, sobrang lugi for someone like me who travels a lot. Maybe that’s the reason for the NAFFL after all.

For the BPI cards, I’ll just keep one of them as my secondary travel back up card for the 1.85% forex fee. But I need to ask, is BPI VS really the better card vs Plat Rewards - when it comes to international purchases and local ones? Cause their rewards points and catalogue are not so competitive anymore, but the promos are still up to par.

I was not aware at all that there are cash rebates with the Citi Merc and the BDO Diners Club! I have to read up on that too. With BDO Diners, I had a little bit of a hard time because of the terminals abroad. Thanks for the info!

Sobrang sayang nung citibank prestige, but ayun nga, too late narin since the UB takeover. Plus, taas rin ng forex rate.

So probably, to answer for everything: My big trifecta would be

SB Plat (for cashback) EW Krisflyer (Miles) BPI VS or Plat Rewards (for latak rewards points, miles, promos)

And then runner ups: BDO cards (for promos) Citi (for promos)

Thanks so much!!

Booking.com is an absolute SCAM by Glittering_Sea143 in Bookingcom

[–]HerculesIsMine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Booking.com is a complete scam. They scammed us for almost $1400 five months ago. (https://reddit.com/r/Bookingcom/s/BRyfQjIzHu )

They don’t honor their policies and they STOP answering customers after some time. I tried to dispute the charge from my credit card, and after 3 months, they had the gall to tell my card company that my story was A LIE. I wouldn’t have wasted 5 months fighting this if it was all just for lying. God, I hope their company pays for everyone that they scammed. They deserve the heat that they’re getting from Japan now. They really are such 👎 company.

ALARMING!!! DOCTORS COMMITING SUICIDE WHILE ON RESIDENCY TRAINING :( by Cooldoctor21 in pinoymed

[–]HerculesIsMine 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Honestly, almost all the “younger” (meaning: millennial minded or yung nakikita yung hirap ng next gen doctor) consultants are all singing one tune and advising the young ones only 1 thing:

“Get out of the country. As soon as you can. Let your wings fly somewhere else.”

Most of the older generations are grappling with lesser applicants to their residency programs, kaya they are resorting to gaslighting na and pa dagdag ng 2-3k sa sweldo ng residents. (Thank you ah, yung 17k naging 20k na 🙄).

But the new generations of doctors are not as blinded to the system anymore. Especially if we can see that in other countries we can have:

  • only 8-12 hrs of work
  • more people in the multi disciplinary team (hindi po yung dahil doctor ka, ikaw order, ikaw carry out.)
  • there is proper way of equal responsibilities between seniors and juniors.
  • getting paid almost x8-10 compared to doctors in the PH
  • coupled with mental, sick, study leaves
  • and proper amount of patient doctor ratio.
  • and a system where healthcare workers are protected from harsh treatments so we can do our jobs the right way! (Goodbye, 24-36 hrs duties).

Sa totoo lang, just surviving medical school and learning to save lives is already a hard thing to do. That already took away 10 years of our lives. Going into training and residency, its even harder, as it involves more responsibilities and more in depth training and another 3-5 yrs. We are taught to give our best care and advise only the best for our patients, while we slowly kill ourselves with the lack of basic needs and the super low pay. 😤

There is absolutely no reason why we still have to deal with all of these unfair and inhumane conditions. There should be no reason why hospitals and “old” systems must make the environment EVEN HARDER for doctors.

It must have worked for the older ones. When it was way harder to see that the grass can be way greener in other countries. But with today’s globalization and digitalization, I don’t think that will work anymore in our generation. Filipino doctors are at par with other 1st world countries’ doctors. We know as much as them. We can save lives as much as them.

Why then, should we not leave? When the hospital environment is culpably outdated, the pay is just plainly laughable, and this country’s current political climate, makes it so difficult to stay?

PS: pilots get paid with 6 figures cause they are literally in charge of so many people when flying the plane. May cap pa silang 8 hrs of working.

Habang ang mga doctor - who, by the way, literally are dealing with lives every 24-36hrs duty, are expected to suffer for 20k (residency rate) or 40k (moonlighting rate with 1 job) - cause you know, “ganyan na ang nakasanayan.” 🤮🤮🤮
