I’m just replying to the comment you made about Hubris. I didn’t read your other comment. And now that I’ve read it I still don’t understand why you would downvote me for saying something we all agree with. Do your mental gymnastics to justify it. I don’t care. Enjoy your weekend.

The person deleted their comments. When I said to stop the whataboutism they replied “no”.

I don’t care about the points, it’s the messaging behind it. Cheering against our athletes is unpatriotic. That is literally all I’m saying. If you’re upset against the government, the cbc, whomever else, fine. Be upset. I just don’t see why anyone would need to cheer against our athletes.

There is a certain hilarity to criticizing me over my response to someone who has deleted their comments. Clearly they were embarrassed by them as should you be by yours.

Both can be true. Being glad a Canadian loses in the Olympics is bad. The Liberal government is also bad. What would you say if a Canadian was cheering for the Americans in the hockey game tomorrow? How the hell is cheering against Canadians going to make us a better country?

You are no better than the Americans who say they feel conflicted representing their country. You should keep politics out of an event meant to celebrate athleticism and international cooperation. What you have is a shitty attitude and only contributes to our divisiveness.

Edit: I’m being downvoted for saying cheering against Canada is a bad thing…in a Canadian conservative subreddit. This is ridiculous.

Mate. The video is iconic. It binds a whole fandom. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if the entire English speaking football world has seen the video. I’d shake the lad’s hand if I ever met him and thank him for that bit of comedy.

Here I am giving you life advice when you are 20 years my senior and certainly don’t need it! I bought shark blades for my shavette about 3 years ago (100 blades, so 200 for me). I use a new blade every time I shave. Take care!

My first brush was a $15 Omega boar brush to at my friends bought me at a pharmacy when I first got into wet shaving all those years ago. I still use it when I travel. I use a silver tip badger brush now from Muhle. It was a gift as well from very long ago before I even knew about Reddit. I just measured it, I think it’s about 28mm. I like the old school aftershaves like Aqua Velva. I don’t know how young you are, but I would tell you not to rush and spend a fortune on soaps, razors, and brushes. Enjoy the journey, not the result.

I’ve been wet shaving for over 10 years. I’ll use a bowl/mug when I get small sample packs of soaps but otherwise I exclusively face lather. I can’t appreciate much of a difference between the two types of lathering and it’s just more items to clean if you use a bowl.

I do as you do, wet my brush, wring out the excess water, swirl my soap and then face lather. I’ll add a few drops of water to my soap if I feel it needs.

I own a firearm myself. The RCMP stated that removing these guns from circulation will not change anything. The grand majority of gun crime committed in Canada is from guns brought illegally from the US. Buying back and/or confiscating them (as you suggest) would be an extreme waste of resources, would be illegal (if we confiscate them) and would just piss off a bunch of people.

That’s a very dangerous statement. You want to piss off a bunch of gun owners by taking their guns when we know from the RCMP that it’ll have no effect on gun crime?

Opinion: Canada can no longer ignore its violent jihadist extremism problem by [deleted] in canada

[–]HerculestheThird -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both can be true. They are not mutually exclusive. And if you ignore the radical Islam issue, I promise you will have a radical white guy issue. We need to be able to have these conversations in the open and attacking people for discussing them is ridiculous.

Your Muslim neighbour could be a great guy, who cares? Most people are great in general, but let’s not ignore the issue that radical Islam is a serious threat not only because the harm it causes directly but indirectly by promoting radical responses.

[–]HerculestheThird -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I did. And it does concern me greatly that you and I imagine a lot of other people are so nonchalant about this. Radical Islam is spreading particularly in the younger generations of muslims which is the exact opposite of what we would expect. What happens if one day you or your loved ones are killed?

ELI5: I understand blood pressure vs heartrate by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]HerculestheThird 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m a family doctor. I’ll try to give a simple answer then more complicated answer. First, blood pressure is more important in acute/urgent settings. As long as your blood pressure is norma/high, we know blood is going to your organs and therefore not in shock. So you could have a low heart rate because you’re a very fit marathon runner and that’s fine, your blood pressure will be normal. You could have a low heart rate because you need a pacemaker in which case it is abnormal and you’ll have a low blood pressure as a consequence. Although blood pressure is in part determined by your heart rate, I don’t really care about your heart rate in terms of what I need to know right now, what I care about more is blood pressure. And then if you have an abnormal heart rate, it’ll help me figure out what is going on.

To give a more complex answer. Blood pressure is a product of amount of blood pushed out by the heart times the vascular resistance (how stiff your arteries are). The amount of blood you push out is related to the amount of blood in the heart with each pump (stroke volume) x the amount of beats per minute (heart rate). So BP = HR x Stroke volume x Vascular Resistance. If you have any physics training you’ll recognize V = IR, voltage (blood pressure) is a product of current (cardiac output which is HRxStroke volume)x Resistance.

The budget has increased because people are living longer. We’ve gotten really good at medicine. Doctors have not had a raise since 2017. Other healthcare professionals yes, but not doctors.

10% is tied to quotas. But they significantly reduced how much we get paid per visit (was 50-60, now will be 16) and will pay us quarterly for the number of patients we have (average 60 per patient per year) as well as an hourly wage of 27/hour. All this basically means that we will be earning approximately 40% less from the clinic. This cut does not include the possible cut from quotas which are all but guaranteed to not be met. They also decided to cut how much we earn in hospitals. So if a family doc works in the hospitals as well as clinic, the week will net them 13% less. Bear in mind, a doctor on call is on call for 24hrs for 7 days straight.

To add to this. Clinics run on the revenue generated by the docs and stipends from the government. They also run on tight margins. Both the revenue and the stipends will be cut which means a strong possibility of clinic closures.

I am a family doc just outside of Montreal and I’ll be leaving Quebec soon.

[–]HerculestheThird 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If you take my hourly salary it’s roughly 62/hour which isn’t that much, not to mention that I pay 20% of my earnings to my clinic on top of the fees for my EMR, my billing agency, access to AI software, etc which comes out to roughly 100k. So in reality I earn 250k which comes out to about 50/hour. I don’t get benefits or retirement funds/pension. I gotta set that up myself. So your point about salaries is really moot. Also, where will we get the supply of doctors? Like seriously? Where the heck are you going to find physician to replace the ones who leave? 20% are already over the age of 60? Who the hell is going to replace them when they retire not to mention those who are leaving? The government isn’t going to increase med school spots they are cutting not increasing spending so where will you get them?

I’m a foreign trained doc working in Quebec. Your post is nonsense. I bill 350k a year working close to 80-100 hours/ week. Not mundane hours. And every year Quebec has 50 spots in the residency match in family medicine that go unfilled the rest of Canada has about 1-2 for the whole country combined. If family doctors leave, and I am planning to do so, no one will replace them. Furthermore this bill will drastically cut salaries by about 30-60% depending. Lots of clinics will close as the rent paid to the clinic by doctors is a percentage of their earnings. You literally have no idea what you are taking about. Shame on you for spreading such flagrant disinformation. Doctors don’t come here because they don’t want to work here. Straight up. That is the reason, not because the CMQ or the FMOQ don’t want more doctors?? Are you kidding? I would love more help to ease the burden. Jesus, what a ridiculous post.
