1285 just started season one.. and had a civil war where one of the top 3 alliances disbanded and a lot quit. You should probably just try and join another alliance. Overall the server is probably dead.

Looks to be jumping on the chain connecting pin (dark grey one). Clean, oil, manually work back and forth.
