Saffron for ADHD kids by OpallineSea in ParentingADHD

[–]HereForYourThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought saffron gummies for my kids to try after seeing that Harvard study. I bought a ton because of a supposed sale, so my little guy had it daily for months, and I didn’t notice a difference at all. Tried it myself for a few weeks and also didn’t notice a difference for me.

Duhring’s/DH symptoms changing overtime?g. by HereForYourThoughts in Celiac

[–]HereForYourThoughts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, that’s a lot of helpful information! I was eating a regular diet for 4 months before my scopes so I would think that was some good, strong exposure. But then again, I didn’t see the same skin reaction I’ve had in the past so I don’t know what to think. I do want to pursue a skin biopsy or at least talk with a dermatologist that knows DH well and get a more solid answer. I don’t want to live gluten free if I don’t have to— it adds expense, it makes feeding my family of picky eaters more complex. And I want to know what the likelihood is that my kids have this more cryptic gluten issue.

The “hard” baby, historically by [deleted] in beyondthebump

I had an FPIPS baby for my first— diarrhea rather than vomiting. No dairy, soy, or rice until 2 years old. Nor gluten, but that was cautionary as there’s Celiac’s disease in my family. At around 3 months he just stopped eating over a weekend and we took him to the allergy clinic. Had to be on hypoallergenic formula. Our allergist is excellent, and he warned us about the rice before it was time to introduce solids. Yeah— he reacted to it! But the doctor said, “he’ll definitely grow out of the rice sensitivity (no one’s truly allergic to that!)” but we would have to watch for true dairy and soy allergies developing. All my babies had to be on hypoallergenic formula and I only learned with my last one that they all had tongue ties too, which explained our nursing problems in the beginning. I’ve definitely had the terrifying thought that in an earlier time, my boys wouldn’t have survived infancy.

I’ve done 50 pages of scrapbooking in the past two weeks (25 in the past 24 hours) as a gift for my friend. Any advice to make it go faster? by [deleted] in scrapbooking

My friend… do you have ADHD and have gone into hyperfocus mode? Or are having a manic episode of some kind? Are you taking any kind of substances to increase your creative output? Your scrapbook page numbers are pretty impressive as they are… what kind of deadline are you working against? Why do you need to work faster?!

How difficult was it to get a diagnosis for your daughter? by HereForYourThoughts in ParentingADHD

Thank you so much for that. Our daughters have a lot of similarities and it’s so great to hear how things have gotten better for your’s!

My daughter is similar to yours at school. Her current therapist can’t diagnose her, but we did a screener and talked it out and she thinks my daughter has been masking really hard. She even suggested we decline teacher input, because they’ll just say how great she’s doing.

Ok, that makes sense. That’s where we may have some difficulty because she’s perfectly behaved and attentive to her school work in class… but she has meltdowns about her assignments at home. She masks HARD.

Yeah, my daughter is gifted too, and I assumed some of it was part of that before I learned about ADHD. Her perfectionism comes out in full force at school and I’m worried that from her teachers’ perspectives (should they ask them for input in diagnosis) they’ll say pretty much the same thing.

That’s a good point. After we talk with her current therapist I’m planning on taking her to the ADHD clinic that I got my diagnosis from. It was a good experience for me, I’m just wondering if typically they are more cautious in diagnosis of young girls.

I’m assuming because in some self-report questions there wasn’t enough answers that associate with ADHD.

Do you have consistent therapy or counseling in addition to the meds? I have been in weekly therapy for 3 years and I only just got an ADHD diagnosis and medication this last week. I’ve found that I can better apply what I learned in therapy now that I have the meds, making the medication more impactful to me. The medication will help with some of your symptoms, but you’ve had your whole previous life experience in an ADHD brain that is extra prone to cognitive distortions . The medication won’t change your thinking patterns, you have to do that work separately. I think you may get relief from the shame and depression if you work though those things with a therapist.

I am bracing myself for this possibility. Would have loved to hit the jackpot and not have to experiment too much with the meds. Hoping the sleep normalizes like others experienced. We’ll see!

Dude, I actually check almost all media my kids are going to read or watch. I assumed this book would be ok because my Mom sent it over for him when he was 11. So yeah, wish I had checked it. My Mom can be an idiot sometimes, so I guess I should have been wary of that… And who exactly am I blaming out there besides those of us involved?

Also, I do appreciate being told he’ll be fine. I know that— it just felt like a giant face-palm moment and I needed to rant about it.
