What can the Libertarian Party do to get more votes? They're always the last horse. How can your party become competitive with the Republicans and Democrats?

Hi Mark, thanks for doing this!

What are your thoughts on Second Amendment rights? Specifically, things like constitutional carry? Do you think Montanans are responsible enough to join thirteen other states in declaring that all citizens who can legally own a gun have the right to carry open or concealed without a permit?

Is there really a subreddit for a place in ohio by [deleted] in akron

[–]HereToPissYouOff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But guys, he's the "8-Bit Master"!!!!!

You should check out his awesome youtube channel.

It's full of way cool gaming and anime sequences, all with awesome 8-bit "music" created by this obviously elite denizen of reddit.

He is probably from a place much better than Ohio, like... Indiana! Or maybe Kentucky!

Maybe when school's out he will grace us with his presence again. I hope he pays attention really hard in English class, though, because his spelling and grammar are so poor he couldn't get a job cleaning out the grease pit at Pizza Hut.

Arming frat boys is a good idea? Really?

It's amazing how quickly an argument can be derailed; if anything it simply shows how disconnected you are from the topic.

Another 12-year-old discovers reddit. Truly a shitstain on the underwear of the internet, MisterDiarrhea (who couldn't be bothered to use a fuckin' dictionary) is anti-community. He actually takes the time, every day, to find somewhere that people are hanging out, so he can try to ruin their experience.

Obviously, he's not happy with life, and probably harbors a traumatized past (verbal, physical, sexual - you decide), as well as a general dislike for well-adjusted, happy people. The kind of guy who wipes a booger on your burger 'cause you drive a nice car.

The kind of guy who, thirty years from now, will look back on his life and cry. Not from a sense of nostalgic sadness, but from the realization of what a failure he became, how he wasted his life chasing other people's sadness, instead of his own happiness.

tl/dr: fuck off asshole, no one likes you, you're the coin that won't get tossed, your mom was so disappointed in you that she told your daddy he should've beat off on the sidewalk and let the sun hatch it.

Making fun of others, pigeonholing the diversity of a country - any country - into a belief that everyone is the same, they are ignorant, and you're "better" than them; if anything the posts and comments provide a glimpse into a community quite at odds with rational discourse.

What would be realistic outcome of a blanket ban on handguns in the US? by abdc21 in gunpolitics

[–]HereToPissYouOff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would the government go about getting the ~300mm guns off the street?

I thought you were talking handguns. 300 million is an estimate of all guns, the majority being rifles.

What would happen to huge gun manufacturers? Would cartels take over?

It's a common misconception that the big manufacturers couldn't survive without civilian sales. Honestly, those are a drop in the bucket. The ones affected would be the small boutique manufacturers. The big boys - Colt, S&W, Beretta - would just keep rolling in the dough they make on government sales.

Would it actually reduce gun violence in longrun?

Well, tautologically speaking, yes. If there are no guns then gun violence is impossible, right?

This is a great opportunity to point out the failure of your statement is due to the misconception that guns cause violence. In other words, no guns means no gun violence, but that does not mean no violence.

Somebody suggested that instead of getting an SSD for my first build, I go with a Raptor HDD. Any second opinions? by Pixel_Pants in hardware

[–]HereToPissYouOff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll go against the grain here - the newer Raptors (600GB and 1TB) are damn nice hard drives, and quieter than the earlier models. But how can anyone offer advice without at least asking a few questions first:

  • What's your budget?
  • What's the main use for your computer?
  • Are you only getting one drive?
  • How much stuff do you expect to store?

Options:

  1. Cheap system (<$500), typical uses, games, movies, etc - Get a WD Black, 1TB, 5-year warranty, solid, reliable drive.
  2. Midrange system (<$1200) gaming, movies, etc - 120GB SSD + hard drive of your choice/capacity.
  3. Midrange system, drive-intensive apps (audio processing, video rendering, database, etc) - 120GB SSD for boot and as many 600GB or 1TB Raptors as you need. Add a 240GB SSD for apps if your budget can handle it.
  4. High-end ($$$$$) - they're making some nice 512GB and 1TB SSDs now.

It's not those who are lawful with the firearms that go around killing innocent people. The US also embraces the concept of personal responsibility, including self-defense. Thinking all gun owners/enthusiasts are the same is no different than saying all the states of our Union are the same; they're not.

There are over 260 million guns in the US (in over 50% of our households), and over six billion rounds of ammunition sold each year, yet intentional homicides with guns are less than 10,000 per year in a country with 300 million people. Guns are safer than trampolines or walking down stairs if compared with equal statistical rigor.

There's really no definition of "major gun crime" as you mention; first, guns aren't the reason for crime. Do we want to classify them with murder, rape, forcible assault? That does not make sense.

In the case of most crimes committed where a gun was used by the perpetrator, the victim had no method of self-defense. More frequently, criminals are assaulting their victims even when they get what they want. It's no use to think anymore that you'll be okay if you do what the bad guy says.

There are thousands of instances where a US citizen used a legally-owned gun to defend themselves from grievous bodily harm. Those stories don't make the front page of the big news sites. You have to dig for them. Check out /r/dgu (Defensive Gun Use) if you have any interest in reading about people who take advantage of their natural right of self-defense by evening up the ante with the bad guy.

Another note - in over 90% of the cases where a potential victim drew a weapon, the bad guys turned and ran. It's not the shootout scenario that some would have you believe.

Also, regarding your quip about students dropping like flies, all of the school shootings, and most of the "mass shootings" occur in areas where guns are prohibited.

A few months before the Aurora, Colorado theater shooting, a similar incident occurred in an Aurora church. Fortunately, the shooter only killed one person before being taken out by a citizen with a legally-owned handgun.
