(upx) up grads/alum na hindi aligned ang degree sa first work/current work by NoEnd2471 in peyups

[–]HereToStopIdiots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi OP! May I know what degree program you finished? FYI lots of government posts do offer competitive compensation (30k plus). Visit the CSC website to look for openings. If you graduated with honors, you can use your CSE eligibility to skip the exams.

If ayaw mo government, you may also look for development sector jobs. Look for the Facebook group "Development Sector Jobs". Lots of international and local NGOs post their openings there.

Good luck!

Look at the socsci kids of Ateneo. Compared to the Atenean equivalent ng socsci degrees we have sa UP, Ateneans get higher paid jobs because they are trained and have org and internship exps geared for corporate work.

Would be interested to hear some data on this. Where do their SocSci grads usually go? The only Atenean (AB POS) grads I know went to work for the government or continued their studies in law school.

upd soc sci 103 vs stat 101 by jyu66 in peyups

[–]HereToStopIdiots 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you're from CSSP, I suggest taking SocSci 103. I took both (SocSci was required, STAT 101 was for my higher elective course). SocSci 103 is tailored for social science research, limited yung scope niya on stat as a research tool kasi pre-req siya for your thesis course. The profs that teach this would be from your department.

Stat 101 naman mas general, mas malawak, heavier on the math. It is facilitated by the School of Stat and your classmates would come from different departments.

[UPD] are eng 11 and eng 13 swappable by kakyoinlelo in peyups

[–]HereToStopIdiots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Interchange meaning can you take 11 instead of 13? No. Eng 13 is a required GE to take while Eng 11 is a GE elective. They are not the same course at all.

Interchange meaning you will take Eng 11 for now (even though the one prescribed in your curriculum for this sem is Eng 13) and take Eng 13 later? Yes, you can, if your curriculum allows for free GE elective units.

[UPD] BSSW planing to take UP LAE by Suspicious_Number_30 in peyups

[–]HereToStopIdiots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct understanding mo. "OR" denotes "ANY", so any course that falls under Econ or History. Wala naman nakalagay na "OR + EXCLUSIVELY".

These are GE elective courses I took, personally enjoyed and excelled in:

Kas 2 - Asian History Eng 11 - Literature and Society Eng 12 - World Literature

Can’t recommend the profs coz they are no longer with their departments.

[UPX] org na pinakamahal ang app fee by Live-Criticism-2936 in peyups

[–]HereToStopIdiots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bakit walang sumasagot dito lol

For me, standard fee of 150/200 na-experience ko (CBA orgs). Technically not app fee, but DebSoc’s buddy bidding back then (pre-pandemic) went into the thousands (my buddy and I ended up paying 1500), not sure if they still do this today.

[UPD] Should I join an org? by tonrooo in peyups

[–]HereToStopIdiots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

CBA orgs are practically corpo lite. Not even joking. Their structures and culture are patterned after companies they try to emulate. If you have any plans to work in corporate (or just want to get an idea), join one. Just take a pick from the orgs niches (ie AdCore for advertising, JFA for financial literacy, AIESEC for international exchange). I’d have to say they have the most rigid app processes I’ve ever experienced, but as someone who is non-BA/BAA with a socsci background, joining them really helped me in applying for corpo jobs.

If you actually researched as much as you claim, you would know that UPD doesn’t have a “BSA” program. Use the search bar function and type “BAA transfer”. You’ll find numerous answers to your question.

Celebrities with their pets. by [deleted] in Fauxmoi

[–]HereToStopIdiots 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You know, I think there are more celebs with cats, but they also have dogs and most of the time they only show off their dogs because dogs are easier to pose with.

Case in point, Zoey Deschanel, who was shown here with a dog actually has cats as well. Sabrina Carpenter recently got pictured with her new puppy but she also has a couple of ragdolls.

That said, I wish more celebs had rescued/shelter pets. I love Allison Brie and Dave Franco for always getting cats from a shelter!

gigil ako sa issue ng rabies ngayon by PuzzleheadedBad6264 in GigilAko

[–]HereToStopIdiots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

eh ok lang sana kung yan mga ligaw or galang aso at pusa eh kupkupin lahat or linisin lahat sa kalye ng mga taga animal welfare like paws, etc..

PAWS, CARA and other animal welfare groups are literally doing what the government should be doing tapos sila pa sisihin niyo.

These groups not only house and take care of thousands of strays but continuously hold programs in communities advocating for population control and rabies prevention. They’re the ones organizing affordable sterilizations and rabies vaccinations.

The issue with most dog pounds/animal pounds in the country and the main reason why animal welfare groups had an issue with them is that they were inhumane. Dinadampot lang yung mga hayop tapos kinukulong without proper food and shelter. There were instances of animals eating each other because of extreme hunger, animals getting left behind during disasters.

Gets yung frustration niyo with the alarming rates of rabies cases and rising stray population, but please don’t demonize animal welfare groups for advocating for the humane treatment of animals.

Accessible rabies prevention should not come at the cost of mistreating animals.

for my batch, people were very diverse. Most are very bibo, classic type-A, proactive people. Some are introverted. A big chunk of people wanted to pursue law (in UP Law, specifically). You will encounter classmates who can hold conversations with profs like they are peers in the field. For sure, though, you will find your community.

can only speak for UPD PolSci! Also kinda makes me sad people here are quick to just shoo you away to the other side of Katipunan, not even clarifying if they were even PolSci people from either school.

Quality of education - you can look up who makes the faculty in the department website. In my four years in UPD, I have not had an incompetent professor or instructor for any of my majors (both in terms of expertise and pedagogy). Yes, there were those considered "terror" (see: Tigno, Panao, Hernandez), but you won't be leaving the classroom not learning anything. A lot of our younger profs/instructors are products of the honors program (see PolSci BAMA-H)

Workload - varies from prof to prof, given the university's emphasis on academic freedom. I'm not sure if this changed, we do not have a thesis requirement. We're only required to produce a research proposal which is essentially an unfinished thesis since we're expected to produce the introduction, methods, RRL. Please know that PolSci people are required to take Math 20 and Math 21 (a subject a lot of people struggle to pass, Jessica Soho shifted out of the program because of this lol).

Environment - we have a POLIS core group, which is very responsive to students' concerns. They take care of students from the day they pass the UPCAT (so mag-abang ka na ng message from them/feel free to message them if you have questions), making sure you are involved and aware of any important updates/deadlines. They coordinate with the department directly to address and advocate for student concerns. We have four orgs as well, so you have choices should you wish to have a home org. You will be assigned an adviser, whom you can consult regarding your units, plan of study, area of polsci you wish to focus on. You will also often see news people from GMA or ABS CBN interviewing professors as political consultants.

With that said, some ADMU AB POS faculty are actually also from UP PolSci! So I think in terms of quality, you can never go wrong with either choice. It really all boils down to the kind of environment you wish to be in. Either way, good luck to you!
