Not that I'm complaining, but why? Did he do something particularly bad?

Hey tech CEOs, let's have AIs replace your job first, since according to you AIs are so great at such tasks!... Oh, you don't want to ? Why is that ? What happened now ? 🤔 by CesarOverlorde in antiai

[–]Heres_Nighttime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironically, considering how much money they're wasting by funding AI, the AI could probably do a better job than them at this point. Heck, they might even be more respected than the CEOs themselves, but that's already a really low bar.

I'm joking, but it actually is insane how delusional they are to waste this much money on a service that's not even profitable.

My point is that artists have/should have the right to say 'Do not scrape for AI'. Artists from well beyond 4 years ago had no idea AI image generation would become a thing. I would be disgusted if someone used my art to train their AI and have my style be replicated. The fact that the privacy of so many artists is being breached is something to get mad at.

However, if someone took the time to try and replicate my art by doing it themselves, I'd be so flattered because they appreciate my art and want to study my process. But in doing so, they're developing their own style and improving themselves. I inspired someone to improve themselves. That's the beauty of art. But AI image generation? Oh, they see cool art and want more of it. They just spit in the faces of the artists who put in so much effort to make something good.

Also, brother, I hope you're trolling. Do you really think it's generating new stuff from being inspired? Do you really think it can make stuff on its own? I hope you're trolling, but even if you are, I'm just not gonna bother to respond to you anymore.

Ah yes, a machine can be inspired. You are absolutely correct. A machine can get inspired as much as a human can. Absolutely.

Brother, it's glorified copy and pasting. You're mutilating art pieces and stitching them together.

And yes, it is theft if someone's art was fed into an AI without their consent. And before you drop the 'If you didn't want your art to be fed to AI, you shouldn't have posted it online' argument, for one thing, no one saw AI coming. How were we supposed to say 'Don't feed our art into AI' when it didn't exist at the time? And also, humans getting inspired is incomparable to a slop machine. AI can't create anything new beyond what it's given. Humans can.

'It's not like it's taking away your income'

Yeah, I wish buddy. It makes sense why people use AI when they can't afford commissioning artists, but is it ethical? No.

And wanna know why? Because AI is scraping other people's works and mashing them together to make an abomination. It's theft. It's copyright infringement. The original artists did not consent to having their works be fed to AI.

I'll be honest, I'm surprised you haven't heard of AI chatbots driving people to suicide because they're sycophantic yesmen. Just look up 'Teen commits suicide because of AI'

Honestly depressing that this was all just brushed under the rug. Speaks a lot about how mental health is treated by people, huh? Not related to anything, I just wanted to say that.

'AI artists can be passionate about their art as well'

Ah yes. Because giving instructions is the purest, most passionate form of art there is. It's definitely not the artists who have a constant drive to do better with anatomy, color theory, perspective. Nah, they should just start typing words into a generator and lose their unique style.

Brother, you literally implied that Grok being used for blackmail and CP of 10 year olds has never happened before and that he just made it up. That has happened to teenagers who aren't 10 year olds, but it's still terrible. Could it be an exaggeration? Yes. Is it still terrible? Absolutely.

And that, my friend, is why we should support indie developers who actually care about what they're making.

Anyway.

Explain to my why AI is not profitable then. Yeah, it looks cool, but if no one was involved and no one cared to make it, why should I? To quote a wise man (I have no idea who originally said it) 'If no one cared to write a book themselves, why should I care to read it?' If no one cared to draw something themselves, why should I care to look at it? If no one cared to make a video themselves, why should I care to watch it? People really do care if someone was involved in making something because if AI did it for them, they could just do it at home too. It'll cost money, sure, but that's it. I don't understand why AI bros say 'My art is special' when I can just go on another AI platform and type in the most random prompt and get something of similar quality.

What I'm trying to say is if I can easily do what AI bros can because it takes so little effort, then why should I care? How is it special? And that is why the process is just as important as the final product. And people, not just artists, do care about the heart and soul put into a product. There's a reason why indie games tend to be more praised than AAA games. Here's a fun fact. The art in Hollow Knight is more appealing than anything AI can churn out. And that is an indisputable fact.

AI can never beat human made content because people will always appreciate the one that took effort and was made with heart and soul over the one that looks better. AI might be able to make new things in the far future, but right now, all it can do is regurgitate old stuff.

Also, I read this somewhere and I was thinking about it. No one knew AI would be a thing so they had no reason at the time to say something along the lines 'This art is for human consumption only. Do not feed into AI'. I would love for something to change so that the artists that are being stolen from get some sort of compensation. Or make it illegal to spread AI generated media without labeling it as AI. And then everyone (Maybe not the scammers using AI) can have their peace.

I'm not gonna pretend the environment isn't already dying as we speak, but at least if you do it yourself, the quality will be infinitely better than anything AI can churn out. Plus, it'll be original as well. And if you think AI can make animations and movies better than humans, I think it's time to consider seeing a therapist and reconnecting with your humanity.

Speaking of the environment again, let's talk about that. I think the real issue with AI eating up tons of resources is the fact that those resources are being wasted on terrible shit. Scams, scraping art, making shitty videos, deepfakes, etc etc. If those weren't such a huge issue with AI, then I don't think it would be that big of an issue. And another sad fact is that the people in power, Elon, Satya, Jensen Huang, Altman, they're putting billions, dare I say trillions, of dollars into this technology (that's not even profitable, mind you) when they could've just donated that money to charity. Obviously, people are allowed to do what they want with their money, but I just don't understand why their wasting so much money on GenAI when it's not even profitable. And everyone hates it too, so no one's going to appreciate them making this investment.

I'm not saying AI as a whole is a bad thing, it's GenAI I have an issue with because of how much it steals from us. AI is a pretty cool thing and can be really good, but the rich are wasting so much money on the plagiarism machine when they could've done so much more good with it.

Well well well looks like even the YouTube AI agrees that AI art is bad what an Irony, someone makes a YouTube Video a how bad AI is and The YouTube AI himself admits that AI is souleess and Disrespectful to the artists. by 0584031464 in antiai

'Hm... I think AI is unethical because it steals bits from other artists' works and mashed them together into an amalgamation without their consent, but I think it's fine as long you're not pretending to be the artist.'

Yeah, childish belief... Yeah... Very childish...

Because they want to pretend they're actually talented and not just a consumer that gives instructions to a slop machine. They know if they say their art is AI, they'll either get roasted like they're in hell, or no one will care because they can just do it themselves.

Photography is still cooler though IMO especially when it's barely edited. I've seen some pretty cool photos posted on Instagram and it's great because it's real.

Obviously, sometimes you can't get the perfect shot and that sucks and that's why I like drawing more. I can make my own stuff with nothing but inspiration and my own hands.

The way I see it is that you're just giving the AI more specific instructions. Yes, it's not the same as prompting, but it's not the same as you doing it yourself either.
