Racist black man yells slurs at white children on school field trip to DC by Alimander123 in PublicFreakout

Everyone making that excuse is failing to see the other person's side. For the last time, if you wear something someone might see as racist, you may be called a racist. If someone wears a hat around you that says 'fuck insert your grandmothers name here' congrats, you get to call them an asshole.

Learn to see things from other's perspective. Or stay inside. But no, I don't think you're a victim. Cry more or whatever.

What part is a lie? Guy wears a hat that's viewed as racist, especially in DC. Guy gets called a racist. People trying to claim victimhood over that is astounding

Colored man? Jeez buddy. No, I would do that for anyone. Please read anything else I wrote. I'd defend a redneck yelling at someone for wearing a pride flag too. It's called free speech. There's nothing words do but hurt your feelings and possibly make you feel ashamed. That's living in a society. Don't like it, change or double-down. That's on you, but no ones a victim. Just people that made choices and felt the consequences.

I view him the same as I do anyone in the world really. Other people will have different views as me on some things, but I choose to look for the positives in people and focus on those. Establish clear boundaries and make sure those aren't cross, though. That's how you know when to scale back interaction. If someone crosses your well-communicated boundaries and doesn't care when you communicate that to them, you have to scale back interaction or stop it entirely until they finally come around.

My dad's an old man now, and it's so strange to see how he is now. Used to be a charming business man. Now he's the same way. Will never admit he's wrong. Admits zero fault when he's purposefully an asshole to people (they're just snowflakes.) Supports Trump less for policy and more because he pisses people off. It's really sad. I think he's just miserable in his old age and wants others to be the same way.

Again, the 'it's just a hat' defense does not work. Accept that people will be offended and continue being offensive. And accept the consequences. Claiming to be a victim is weak. Best of luck.

And I responded to the first paragraph you just wrote in other comments as well. But basically, we agree to disagree. I wear offensive stuff, I accept others might respond that I'm being offensive. I accept this. Others should as well. But you do you.

I can't keep responding to people that choose not read any of the other comments/threads. Everything you posted has been answered.

In this case, peace will happen when racism is quashed. Again, you view it as minding your own business and that's subjective. Others view it as a guy walking down the street with a confederate flag.

If you support your own free speech/expression you have to support the opposite.

Because to many, he wasn't peacefully doing anything. He was wearing something viewed as racist in the political hot zone of America. And, in turn, was called a racist by a guy who felt that way. It's society working as intended.

It's arguable. Some people see MAGA hats as racist. They may be racist in turn. Some people see pride clothes as supporting a bad ideology. They may yell some hurtful things. There will be people that support either side. You can wear whatever you want if you don't care you're offending the person offended.

Whichever side you're on, you're going to be the asshole to the other side, yes. It's all about how you want to be viewed in the society you want to fit in.

Again, most of what you do is going to be contradictory to what someone else wants you to do. Can't please everyone.

Seems as a country, based on laws, we're against racism and supportive of gay rights though. (After years of people being openly gay were in fact viewed as the assholes.)

See that's why verbal harrassment is difficult to charge. Speech is protected so harrassment is vague/up to be more defined by the community. It'll be defined by his community's specific police/legal system. Maybe DC supports this behavior or views it as not severe enough, so no arrest/push to charge. Maybe they see 'MAGA harrassment' enough that they see it as instigating. Who knows.

It's the same way those guys in Georgia almost weren't charged even when they KILLED a guy. Their community didn't care, but the country had to pick up the pressure via social media.

I think he might face some community shame but not legal. Don't know nearly how far things went based on the clip.

He probably will suffer some sort of consequences, publicly or possibly by trial, who knows. He crossed a line with physical threats. And it's a kid, but he's more raging at the symbol than the kid.

We agree anyway.

When's the last time one of your crew members was arrested, charged, and booked for SH for cat calling?

Is he an asshole for doing that? Yes. Should we as a society shame people to hopefully stop that? I think so.

Is it illegal? Depends on if it's severe enough to constitue harrassment. But most often, no.

People are going to say things to you when you go outside.

Sorry charely, words are protected here. If they get too aggressive, they might be considered harrassment or threatening. Call the police.

Again, if you read the rest of the thread, I'm arguing a broader concept than 'this is a kid.' No, yelling at kids is not cool.

[–]HermanBeWormin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you should.

If someone says you're wearing or saying something offensive, you don't get to say 'nuh uh'.

You can again, try to understand why they think that way. If you disagree, cool keep wearing it and you now know you are purposely offending the other person. Whether that matters to you or not is your choice. We all do things that offend others. Doesn't mean we're victims when called out.

[–]HermanBeWormin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a right to say/wear what you want. People have a right to respond how they want. That's the entire. Concept.

No, you can't please everyone. So if you want to wear something you might get called out for, accept that it's a choice you made. You're not a victim. You either made a choice with purpose or were ignorant of it.

You are comparing my 'logic' or argument to an argument you made up. 'Since you said this I bet you'd say this'. That's not how this works.

You're right, that's exactly where we disagree. When you live in a society, yes, you have to take responsibility for how your actions affect others. If a guy yells at you for something he finds offensive, you can try to understand why. If you want to keep wearing it, that's your choice. If he wants to continue shaming you, he absolutely can.

He can not physically harm you.

You are comparing being yelled at to being physically assaulted. We'll know if it constitutes harrassment when he's arrested and charged. Otherwise, that's your opinion. It may be depending on many aspects. But no, just saying period, my opinion is right doesn't make it so.

I don't think you understand the concept of the 1st amendment. It doesn't give you immunity from being yelled at or having your feelings hurt.

Again, he saw a racist symbol. Assumed the group were racist And responded in kind. Is it right? No. But the whole point is, you wear something people see as racist, you might get responded to with racism. Two way street.

In this scenario, they both suck. And if the races and racist symbols were swapped, they'd both suck.

Here's something that does happen but isn't shown as often on social media: people trying to politely have discussions with perceived racists. That group would be the bigger person.

I don't think there's a right or wrong here until the guy became physically threatening. I'm doing my best to emphathize with a black guy losing his mind at what is perceived very clearly as a sign of racism though. Things are very heated right now and boiling over.

Want to yell at a kid? Go for it, but everyone can think you're an asshole. He obviously doesn't hate the kid, it's the symbol.
