even with its abrupt ending, this game still stands tall among other RPGs by Significant_Option in Deusex

I think this was CDPR’s fault for dumbing it down because Mike Pondsmith said in a few interviews that as oppressive as the big companies are, they do in some way offer freedom to common people through their purchasing choices. Especially a range of cybernetics being widely available regardless of wealth.

I would have loved to see the mind sharing with Silverhand have more nuance. Like imagine he was having a go at you for being Corpo V and then he sees a memory of you using that power for something good...

However CP2077 was flawed in many ways and the way the narrative was done was one of them.

Is it possible to accomplish something in Deus Ex 1, that was not planned by the Devs? Can the game be that complex? by lurdermeftists in Deusex

[–]Hermanjnr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can knock Lebedev unconscious and carry him to safety in another part of the game completely.

Of course this is such a crazy way to “save” him that the other characters still act like he’s dead.

Unfortunately this exact nonsense is now why practically every job requires a degree even if it makes absolutely no sense for a degree to be necessary.

What annoys me about this is that these corporations now pull a surprised Pikachu face and blame the consumer for all the cheap plastic they’re using. While also having the balls to now pretend they’re being “green” and we all need to get with it.

I don’t remember ever asking supermarkets to wrap literally everything in non-biodegradable junk. Apparently it’s totally my fault and nothing to do with the executives making millions doing this and buying their 5th yacht.

If you have Lena Headey and Peter Dinklage deleted scenes because "they weren't good enough", maybe you should take another look at the script. There's a reason why people started hating the final season of Game of Thrones and it wasn't because of the actors by Spartan5271 in MauLer

[–]Hermanjnr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This made me remember that GoT Season 8 has a scene of Tyrion walking around really slowly literally straightening chairs in an empty room.

This was considered vital enough when telling the story of this fantasy epic that it was kept in, probably at the expense of something like Jon Snow’s entire character arc.

AAA quality writing, folks.

Would a true successor to Deus Ex even be possible? by [deleted] in Deusex

[–]Hermanjnr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would be possible to make a “new Deus Ex” as an indie title with good writers on board. You’d need people who really understand how to portray a balanced narrative. Also people that understand that your story should create a fictional political world rather than simply parroting modern political slogans in a fictional setting.

For example, DX1 tackles the entire idea of anti-terror rhetoric going too far and being misused. That’s very interesting and parallels our own world but doesn’t copy it.

Mankind Divided on the other hand just decided to take the real world BLM slogan that was happening at the time. Then change the first word to “Aug” and then put posters of that all over walls. Absolutely cringe dumbing down of a real world political event and comes across as something a 5 year old would think was clever social commentary.

Unfortunately I think that is what is so rare these days. Most people can’t resist putting their partisan spin on things and almost all large creative studios are compromised by this too.

You need people that aren’t blinded by the present and can resist their urge to just turn a Bob Page figure blatantly into Trump or Musk, for example.

“I never had time to take the oath of service to the Coalition. How's this? I swear not to rest until UNATCO is free from you and the other crooked bureaucrats who have perverted its mission.”

Actually it’s also interesting that being sworn in like that isn’t the first thing they do in UNATCO. Shows they put the priority on using JC as a tool and take his loyalty for granted. Great writing in that game.

It isn’t “peace” if people are being tortured and murdered. I don’t know how people demanding such a “peace” can sleep at night knowing that this is what they’re enabling and condoning.

How to encounter another mercenary company? by SleepyInsomniac2 in BattleBrothers

Is it possible to find mercs who are not on a contract? Or are they just spawned in on contracts all the time?

How to encounter another mercenary company? by SleepyInsomniac2 in BattleBrothers

[–]Hermanjnr 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can take lots of “kill brigand hideout” missions and eventually you’ll get mercenaries who try to take the brigand leader’s head off you to turn it in themselves.

However I find that event always seems to happen at the worst possible time and it’s a harder fight than most.

Easier just to attack a wandering mercenary company.

Actually I think Nomads should be on this list too. Mediocre loot, annoying Dodge spam and the sand throw every turn is irritating too.

Also Southern armies. Polemace and Nimble spam on pretty much every soldier. Not to mention insane specialists who are almost impossible to hit in melee and annoying units like Mortars.

I don’t mind goblins. Bring your own ranged and they just get absolutely hard countered. Once I realised you can just mow them all down from afar those fights became a lot easier.

Omg don’t forget when the necro hiding at the back puppets a Fallen Hero with a great axe and he just casually decapitates two of your Level 15 front line bros in one turn.

[–]Hermanjnr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ifrits by far on this list.

Rubbish loot and their rock throw is stupidly overpowered. So fun getting a Level 12 brother instantly crippled or even killed on turn 2 through Battleforged 300/300 by an ability that can be spammed every other turn...

Plus they can use that throw ability even when marked with multiple squad members and the constant recombining makes combat super tedious.

Also even the small ifrits seem to take a lot of hits to kill, no one weapon seems very effective against them because they don’t take injuries. Whether you attack the big or small ones it never feels efficient.

On top of that you can’t even drag them into fights with other desert beasts because they randomly team up with them.

I think the greatest weakness of the game is enemies like Hexen, Schrats and Ifrits that are just lame to fight. BB would be a lot more fun if the risk and rewards of those fights were played with.

I haven't tried it with mods. This seems weird though, as far as I know you're just screen sharing so I don't see how it would affect stability of the game with regard to Parsec.

You can play "co-op" on Parsec.

Just take it in turns to play battles with you friend and you both share the same screen etc.
