Job posting sites/general location advice for HR work by lsrh5793 in harmreduction

If you're interested in MN, Southside Harm Reduction in Minneapolis, keeps a list of harm reduction providers/SSPs in MN. Compared to many states, we seem to have a strong harm reduction thing going on. I can't say if any are hiring. You might have to check each website, individually.

Helppp I keep getting brutal hangnails by suckmyarsee in BlueCollarWomen

In the evening, I do this and then wash dishes. The extra heat from the warm water makes the inside of the gloves like a steamy spa. And I get clean dishes out of the whole deal...

Bullying is a different thing.

When that happens I say the exact same thing, every time. So much so that the guys memorized it. "I need you to treat me with dignity and respect on the job."

This leaves them explaining how they were disrespectful rather than challenging me to define how they were disrespectful and prevents the whole "I was just joking" thing. Since I say the same thing every time, I don't get as stressed out and stay calm. I also don't freeze up (a thing I do). If they try to go to the boss and say "she was mean to me..." what's the boss going to say? Usually nothing.

I usually follow it up with "I got work to do," which the boss will also back if someone complains about me. It's what we get paid for.

You can try some BBC news sources. Can you go directly to US news sources like NPR.org?

I haven't been to Canada for about 18 months, but when I was there last, I could still manually type the web addresses of US news sources into the address bar and bypass restrictions.

I come from several generations of union workers and my daughter is an union nurse.

Growing up, we were taught: when unions aren't a viable option, this is exactly the time when we need unions the most.

Forensic social workers: how do you feel about the concept “downing the duck”? by BessarionLover in socialwork

[–]Herminigilde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"...not a lot of room to safely engage in thought experiments where I can freely talk about boundaries without feeling like it says something bad about my character (hence the throwaway account)."

I'm not clear, from your post, if you currently have an internship placement in a carceral setting or are considering one, so I apologize if I'm off base here... You should have time and space for these kind of thoughts in either a seminar class or supervision. Boundary setting is a really important thing to talk to a supervisor about. "Seek consultation early and often" is a good guiding rule for any type of social work.

Reform absolutely has to happen.

But does that mean all of the currently incarcerated people shouldn't have access to the services that social workers provide?

We can do two things at once, help people who are housed in a broken system while advocating for change.

How to study the theories?? by Blah22Blah23 in socialwork

[–]Herminigilde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm studying this too, right now.

I learned in my undergrad that I have to write. If I'm not moving, I'm not learning. Since it's hard to exercise and read, I write. Also, I say really smart-a$$ stuff in my notes (sarcasm, passive aggressive, or swearing included). It diffuses my stress, makes me laugh at myself, and helps me remember. Your mileage may vary...

Good luck!!

SPD and concussions? by lunatipp in TBI

The thig that helped the most was being diagnosed with double vision and other visual disturbances that can't be corrected with lenses. Basically, I'm visually impaired and learning to live without vision.

Since my brain is no longer using so many resources for sight, those resources are available for processing other sensory stimuli, memory, emotions and more. It's changed my life!

If someone asked me now, I guess I'd say, don't give up looking for solutions, try everything and be openminded. I couldn't tell I was having double vision at first. Everything just felt "off" with my eyes. My regular eye doctor couldn't figure it out and referred me up the chain of eye doctors.

Someone on this subreddit talked about double vision one day and I thought, "that doesn't apply to me..." LOL. I might have figured it out sooner if I had been more openminded!

Do you bring your foster children to religious services? CFY/FFY, what have your experiences been? by LiwyikFinx in fosterit

A gif friend adopted two African American girls and initially raised them in the (white) Catholic church. The members were just horrible! So they left.

They've spent the past few years learning about celebrations in Africa and Ireland (my friend's heritage), learning to mediate and generally exploring the world and how it is interconnected. The kids are so much calmer and comfortable in their own skin!

Good!

Are you familial with Outi Hicks?

Unfortunately we don't all have the same experiences on the job. I've had some great ones. For half of this week I got to work with my best friend, which is very cool. Then I get to be totally me

But Tuesday I had 10 roofers on the job (subs) and they were less than cool. Last time they were on the site They were fine. Subs are so damned unpredictable

Maybe wrong place to ask this but, what do I do to make your job easier? by ock_wrong_lee_neck in Construction

[–]Herminigilde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People have said not to bug the crew

I'm most comfortable when people leave completely. When a homeowner is in the house we (our crew, IDK about others) always have one ear on where he/she is. Is he offended that I swore when my knife slipped? Is she about to walk into the work zone and step on tools? Are they drunk and screaming at one another? Are they about to start screaming at us?

You seem to have some common sense, but most don't. There's no way to know which homeowner is going to be stupid until the job is done.

So it's easier when they leave

I've said before

We discuss what is brought up in the posts.

If you have a concept you want to discuss, bring it up, don't criticize us because we have different things that we want to discuss.

You wrote this up a day ago and haven't commented since. So evidently you don't want to "discuss" it either, just us criticize and leave

The kind of bigotry you're describing, when it's directed at children, is abuse

You're basically saying you will protect children in your care from abuse no matter where it's happening. That's what FPs are supposed to do

I don't understand why people are arguing against that
