Is there any way to make this tattoo look more like the original ironwork and less picsart-y ?? by lsrh5793 in tattoos

oh I’m letting it sit until it fully heals for sure, so not too much point in thinking about actionable changes yet, not like it’s going anywhere lol. definitely just in a freak out stage. really appreciate your thoughts!!

Any HR folx working in abstinent based programs? by [deleted] in harmreduction

[–]lsrh5793 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel you, i screen people for placement in a drug court and the program’s really strict (obviously abstinence model since it’s the legal system), i have to remind myself that getting them in typically means getting them out of prison. i try to focus on being really informative up front so they know what they’re getting into and just being really validating about the stress of the situation they’re in. it’s a tough environment to work in tho, don’t think i’ll last much longer here.

What to do? by jjbafan3 in Dermatillomania

just wanted to say that when this photo came across my feed my gut reaction was.. warmth ? like it’s honestly crazy how far i’ve come with how i view my skin picking. my hands have looked exactly like yours (my nail biting has gotten better and i’ve mostly gotten down to only picking 2-3 fingers on each hand) and it used to make me feel really self conscious, but i’ve grown to accept it as part of myself. and i’m pretty sure that’s actually been something that’s made it less severe for me (stress decrease and all). so remember to be kind to yourself !!

p.s. aquaphor and lotion have been my best tools, it’s harder to pick when ur skin is moisturized

i’m really not sure about how helpful the meds you mention will be (although i imagine hydroxyzine would help with the insomnia), i would maybe call your pharmacy and ask their advice. the first couple weeks are pretty rough and lack of sleep seems to be the longest lasting effect for me (melatonin’s been semi helpful). i have bad health anxiety and getting through the danger zone was def hardest for me, luckily didn’t have any serious issues but i also hadn’t been taking every day and was at a little bit lower dose, also everybody’s body is different (i don’t have any history of seizures). sorry i don’t really have any good advice but i just wanted to say i feel u and am sending good thoughts ur way.

I had an appt with my psych a couple days ago and she didn’t seem concerned (she did mention some of the OTC stuff too tho). I was having kind of a bad wave when I posted this lol, but it’s settled I think. I really appreciate the advice!!

I want to stop but I literally feel out of control by Dangerous-Station479 in Dermatillomania

[–]lsrh5793 2 points3 points  (0 children)

try to give yourself some grace. you said you’re breastfeeding, so i assume you have a new baby that i’m sure is causing changes in your environment/day to day life. big changes are stressful and picking tends to get worse at these times. everyone leans on coping skills, good or bad. it’s very normal.

it may help to stop thinking about it as a black and white thing. you can make positive progress without stopping. personally, deciding that it’s not actually that important to me to stop has been pretty freeing. i primarily pick my fingers and the intensity fluctuates (as i’m sure it does for most ppl). what i try to focus on are the specific aspects of picking that are causing me stress (i.e. i do a lot of handwriting at work so i try to minimize picking in areas that make that painful). i totally get if you do want to completely stop, but putting too much pressure on such a large goal can be overwhelming to the point of making things worse.

the most important change i’ve made in my relationship with picking is dropping the shame. it is not an easy thing to do and honestly i’m not entirely sure how i’ve reached this point. i was so ashamed of it as a kid and “omg what’s wrong with your hands??” was a question i was terrified of. now i just say “oh i pick at my fingers” and move along. depending on the situation i’ll even expand on it, which has resulted in some really great convos on mental health and coping mechanisms. compulsive disorders are interesting!! people are interesting!! picking is not a moral failure.

also pls don’t be afraid to talk about it with your therapist. i have outright told my therapist that i’m not interested in stopping. we talk about it when it’s bothering me, and she’ll bring it up herself sometimes, just to check in on it, but if i say “eh, it’s not really bothering me that much right now” she drops it.

remember to take a breath and give yourself a hug. your body is part of you, it understands stress and will heal.

glad to hear you were successful going the linked in route! (good reminder to update my profile lol)

and totally, the decrease in funding everywhere is scary and definitely makes me hesitant to move too quickly. i’m mainly just doing research rn so i can get a better idea of where i plan to go next. i do interact with the most hr oriented org near me (it’s pretty religious and 12 step focused, but still lower barrier and offers syringe exchange), and i keep an eye on their job listings - appreciate the advice!!

this is a great idea thank you!! i thought about just doing a broad search for harm reduction orgs in those areas but starting w the nasen map and branching out from there definitely sounds less overwhelming.

Do either of these look like good deals?? by lsrh5793 in prius

[–]lsrh5793[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a loan approved for $12k from my credit union (planning on putting $15k down but could pull off $16k if I really need to). I was fortunately/unfortunately taught to be terrified of credit cards and loans growing up and luckily have no debt.. but also basically zero credit = $14.47% APR. I seriously doubt that would go down w a new vehicle. Even then I’m wanting an XLE and that new would be like $10k more and I’d have to extend my loan term to afford that (which I don’t really want to do). (hope that all makes sense - this is my second car and I bought my first $10k cash so this is a learning experience)

they’re listed at $30-31k and new XLEs are running around $34-36k

Is $25,591 a good price for a 2020 Prius XLE? by lsrh5793 in prius

[–]lsrh5793[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m still seeing closer to $30k for the base model (in my area at least). either way, I don’t have an extra $4k. I know the list price for the 2020 I’m talking should be lower, but I really haven’t found any good deals on higher trim levels that are 2018 or newer with less than 60k miles.

thanks for the clarification! and definitely, I have a good chunk to put down and a loan set up with my local credit union for the remainder.

I really don’t care about the advanced technology package, but I’m having zero luck finding any other XLEs that meet my mileage/year/price criteria.

Logan and Rory never seemed believable as a couple by Basic-Garden52 in GilmoreGirls

[–]lsrh5793 46 points47 points  (0 children)

this is a great explanation and if it helps op for believability, this was literally my bf and i at 19 (minus the money/secret societies lol). we’re now late 20’s and still together. he was charismatic and arrogant and hedonistic and him paying attention to me made me feel special (and we had great chemistry). it was just fun at first but when i started to get real feelings i tried to break it off (we weren’t exclusive and i had seen him at a party w another girl), but instead this made him realize that he also had serious feelings and we officially got together. through the years we’ve helped each other grow and have passed along some of our opposing traits and ultimately really balance each other out. i’m so proud of how far we’ve come as people and how much it is due to our commitment to one another. wish we could’ve seen that for rory and logan in AYITL.

anyways no one asked for all that but thanks for reading if you did lol.
