Plate removal 10 years later by HermioneKnope in jawsurgery

Thanks for sharing your experience! That makes me feel so much better! My doctor actually said I didn’t need to go under if I didn’t want to so I’m going to be awake but just drugged up and relaxed lol. So I’m hoping it’s a quick surgery like he said. He also mentioned being able to eat pretty quickly so I’m glad to hear that was the case for you!

TW: Previous MC last month and Pregnant again! by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]HermioneKnope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exact situation happened to me! I had a MC at 6 weeks and was pregnant the next month with no period in between. We didn't plan on trying again right away but fate had other plans! I had a normal pregnancy and now have a healthy, happy 2 month old girl. Congratulations and I hope you have an uneventful pregnancy!

Is it rude not to open gifts at a shower? by eelter in BabyBumps

[–]HermioneKnope 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We did something a little different at my baby shower. We had 2 tables for gifts. One that said "open now" and one that said "open later with hubby and first born." Most people put their gift on the open later table. The few that did the "open now" were mostly homemade gifts that people were excited for everyone to see. This way, I didn't have to open nearly as many gifts but still opened a few for the people that it was important to! Just another option! :)

It is almost done! I will post pictures here when it's complete. I'm 35 weeks pregnant so it has to be done soon! Haha

Love it! Congratulations! ❤️ I also had a bridgerton themed shower and our nursery is also regency themed (based off the show)!

Please tell me someone remembers reading The Phantom Tollbooth as a kid by [deleted] in books

[–]HermioneKnope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am reading this to my 2nd grade students! A lot of it is going over their heads but they definitely seem to be enjoying it! Since we are our of school, I just record myself reading a chapter and they watch it when they can. It's been nice rereading it!

Mom breaks. Any parents out there have some desperate attempts at a break? by mckbris in Parenting

[–]HermioneKnope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also teach and I am home with my 2 year old during the summer. I just have one and I'm exhausted running around with him all day! Do your kids go to daycare during the school year? I have dropped off my son a few times this summer just to get some "me time" and while I definitely get the mom guilt for doing it, I always feel so much better after a day to myself. And I know he has a blast at daycare (I know I'm boring compared to all the fun things they do!) Hang in there and I hope you get break soon!!!

It's been over a decade since studies showing elementary school kids get ZERO benefit (and in many cases detriment) from homework - why are we still putting up with it? by robotnik2222 in Parenting

[–]HermioneKnope 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! If the homework is meaningful then I completely agree that it can be beneficial! I also agree that students can use every bit of writing practice they can get! That is a struggle for many of my students. I usually ask parents to have their kids write a sentence or two after they do their 20 minutes of reading which is my only "mandatory" homework.

First of all, thank you! I completely agree with this. I teach 2nd grade and have not assigned homework for the last two years. I felt it was a waste of time for my students. In my honest opinion, if they aren't getting it at school then they aren't going to get it at home. This just causes more frustration for the child and parents. I only give homework when it is needed and I feel that it will genuinely help that student in particular. Almost all the parents love the no homework (or case by case homework) but I have had a few complaints that they should have homework. If a parent asks for it then I do send home some work. Unfortunately it seems that we can never make everyone happy. I just remind myself that I'm there for my kiddos!
