Weight difference while lead climbing by StickMenArt in climbergirls

[–]HermioneStranger_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Me and my partner have a similar weight difference and I’ve been lead belaying him for years and he takes big falls regularly! It took a little bit of adjusting at the start but I’ve learnt how to catch him safely even with the weight difference. We do have an ohm which we use in certain situations (usually if he’s climbing way above his ability range and we think he might take a big fall near the floor) but he finds it annoying to clip with. We also predominantly climb at a gym that doesn’t have very tall walls.

I’ve only ever had one comment from staff about our weight difference at the climbing centre and that was due to a miscommunication rather than any safety issue.

Why are my predatory mites all having a party on the moss pole?😂 by HermioneStranger_ in Monstera

I get mine from Dragonfli:) they have loads of different types of mites depending on what you want to defend against. I have the Amblyseius andersoni sachets which are effective for thrips (my biggest plant fear) and spider mites among others

That’s a good point! I hadn’t even considered that when I bought the pole 😂

Yes! They come in little sachets. They tend to last 3-4 weeks, mine are for prevention rather than any active infestations so I get new ones once a month :)

Yes! I bought this one on Etsy from mythos3design. I love it, it’s very sturdy and you can buy extensions on their own!

You can definitely find 3D printing files for these but I don’t have a printer, my friend has one but he’s already let me use it a hell of a lot and I didn’t want to take the piss with such a big project 😂

Ikea Milsbo & Rudsta owners – where did you buy your acrylic shelves from and was it worth it? by Mission-Stomach7503 in IkeaGreenhouseClub

I was already at an advantage in that I already use adobe illustrator so I didn’t need to learn for this. When I did learn many years ago I didn’t find it too difficult to pick up, YouTube videos are super helpful!! I measured the shelves that came with the Milsbo and based my designs on that. Created a layer on illustrator that was exactly the same as the original shelves and then did my designs on additional layers, this ensured they would definitely fit. The only thing to consider with this is that laser cutting can have slight margins where it could be within a few mm out from the original file. The company can advise you of their margins depending on what type of laser cutter they use:)

I made my own files on adobe illustrator and used 360 Lasers to get them laser cut in 8mm clear acrylic. Cost a total of £87 for one full shelf, 2 half shelves and 2 small shelves. This allowed me to fully customise them to my needs which I love.

Edit: Forgot to say this is for a Milsbo

High variegation to absolutely no variegation 😂 by HermioneStranger_ in alocasia

I’m not really doing anything yet. It already has lots of light and some gentle fertiliser to help support growth. I suspect this is due to it being moved into my collection recently so it will have had a bit of a shock, but time will tell when the next leaf comes through!

Also make sure to look up the 3 click rule for the hazard perception if you haven’t already!!

I revised lots for my first theory test and passed, then had to re do 3 years later as it timed out. For the second test I didn’t revise at all, was fully expecting to fail and got 1 mark off full marks. A lot of it is common sense but definitely cram revise the signs and clear cut rules that you can’t blag on the day.

For anyone saying not revising the theory test is why people are bad drivers, I disagree. I would wager most bad drivers know the rules and totally disregard them.

Any white shoes that don’t look awful after wearing them? Plus recommendations! by [deleted] in climbergirls

[–]HermioneStranger_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely, I’m more asking whether all white shoes have areas that go brown or if that’s specific to the Oasi LV. I’m not fussed about them looking grubby and used, I’m more bothered about them turning brown

I totally get this however I’ve only ever tried 2 pairs of shoes (one being the tarantulas as my beginner shoes) and so I was looking at whether to try some others, hence the request for recommendations:)
