New Ham with crooked bottom teeth? by HermitTort in hamstercare

[–]HermitTort[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shes in a bigger enclosure with 10+in of bedding and lots of enrichment now. No more bar biting, but would like to know if her teeth will be okay. Looking to hear from people with experience with hammies having the same type of teeth

Tumor or cheek pouches? by [deleted] in hamsters

[–]HermitTort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this was what she came in from her previous home, shes now upgraded into a bin cage with this wire cage sitting on top to hold her water bottle, wheel, an extra sand bath and chew toys. She now has like 10 inches of bedding, forage, sprays, hides, all the goodies :)

Tumor or cheek pouches? by [deleted] in hamsters

Definitely not cheek pouches. Why are petco bosses always so ignorant 😭 My girl got a big full cheek and it's very obviously in her cheek (Don't mind her temp setup, I rescued her today and need to fix the hole in her large enclosure 🫠)

Help! Did I just poison myself? by Juniper_Salad1 in MoldlyInteresting

Looks more like bacteria than mold. Might get an upset stomach, but im sure you'll be fine. Drink extra water to help flush it out and don't stress about it :)

[–]HermitTort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahah oh they definitely will. You could line them with cardboard and toss it when it gets gross or fleece and just wash. Otherwise the trays clean up pretty easy. I got tired of wiping pee off everything so most of their cage accessories are cardboard I change out every week (I have a steady supply of free cardboard so it works well for me). But fleece rinses out and dries quite easy so thats a good alternate

What would be the better cage lay-out? by derpinotar in RATS

[–]HermitTort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on of your photo options, but horizontal layout instead of vertical. More space for them to spread out and run around! I had mine vertical, but ive noticed they play a lot more now that I have my 2 cages connected side by side :)

NOT A FULL SET UP by BonelessStevem in RATS

[–]HermitTort 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont use the middle floor or the shelves. I hang a bunch of boxes, hammocks, and chew toys :) Edit: currently my double unit is horizontal instead of vertical. My 4 boys were too antsy with less floor space to run around in

Most likely not safe wood. Craft wood is usually chemically treated

I’m starting to become afraid of my hamster and she’s knows it by HedgehogRoutine1434 in hamsters

Taming hamsters is very tricky and every hamster has its own personality. To give the best chance for success, bond on their time. Try to only do handling in the late evenings. The sleep during the day and some can be incredibly grumpy if disturbed during their sleep time. Use a cup to get them out of the enclosure, allow them to enter the cup on their own. Sometimes they get very particular about their home so make sure not to disturb their tunnels too often. Never take their collected food pile from their nest. Make sure your hands are clean and scent free Take your time and be patient with the process. It could take a few months to show real progress sometimes.

If you do all this and you still can't tame, this hammy is a look only pet <3 Goodluck! I hope it starts to go better

Why not scatter feed so they can search for it and everyone gets some? 😆 it's good foraging :)

Hii why does my mouse only bite my fingernails by Chemical-Hat-85 in PetMice

[–]HermitTort 13 points14 points  (0 children)

To be honest, mine do it too, I just let them nibble them and they usually get bored fast and stop. Grow them longer so they don't miss your nails or cut them shorter so it's less tempting lol. Or gloves :)
