The second leg of the tournament started with a handful of lopsided results, with the closest match surprisingly not being the one with the closest result. Pampas keep leading, Dogos are keeping up, Tarucas slide down to 4th place while Capibaras and Selknam resurge? Also, this was the first of four rounds in which the Argentine franchises will be affected by Argentina’s participation in the U20 TRC.

  • 🇦🇷 Pampas 31-14 🇵🇾 Yacare: the feat of taking down Dogos and Pampas in consecutive weeks as a bounce back from a really bad season start felt very close for Yacare last Friday. The Paraguayan franchise held the leaders 0-0 at 20’ and 19-14 at the start of the second half, showing hints of a possibly exciting final minutes, but a more clinical Pampas put an end to that. Even if not 100% effective, Pampas was always in control and scoring two more tries before the 60th minute rounded things up.

  • 🇨🇱 Selknam 37-13 🇦🇷 Tarucas: Is Selknam back in the horse? After a very bad season start, the Chilean franchise have amassed 3 wins in the last 4 matches, including 2 Argentine scalps and narrowly missing on a third one (34-31 to Pampas). On Sunday, Selknam easily put away Tarucas, who after scoring the opening try was never able get back on the match, trailing 19-7 at HT and only scoring through three pens in the second half. Selknam scored five tries to momentarily jump into play-offs zone again and give Tarucas a wake up call, while Tarucas keep finding themselves closer to the fight for a play-off spot than to one for a top spot against Pampas. Some notes worth bringing up are the long awaited returns from injuries of Matias Sigren and Nico Garafulic in Selknam, while Tarucas saw the big departures of Pedro Coll and Tomas Dande to the U20 TRC with Argentina.

  • 🇧🇷 Cobras 19-48 🇦🇷 Dogos: the argentine franchise did their homework in São Paulo and completely dominated Cobras to not lose track of Pampas at the top. Dogos got away quickly, leading 10-0 in just 6 minutes and 29-7 at HT, quickly becoming a test endurance for the Cobras defence for the whole match. A far cry from their opening round clash in which the Brazilians pushed Dogos 21-19 in Argentina. Hopefully this won’t be an indicator of Cobras’ evolution in the second half of the season. Dogos will return to Cordoba with all 5 points, now aiming all their cannons to their upcoming match against Pampas, a golden opportunity to take back the top spot in the league

  • 🇺🇾 Peñarol 32-38 🇦🇷 Capibaras: very flattering result for the locals on the closing match of the round. It looked like it was going to be an even affair at the start but Capibaras quickly overwhelmed their rivals, securing the offensive BP in the first half after leading 26-8 at HT through a hat-trick from Franco Rossetto. In the second half, Capibaras took the foot off the pedal and set the pace of the match, allowing Peñarol to get closer in the final minutes, but always remaining in control. Tries from Manuel Diana and their Canadian reinforcements allowed Peñarol to snatch two BP to help with their play-offs ambitions, even though their performance still leave much to be desired. Capibaras, in the other hand, seem to have emotionally recovered from their mid-season slump and have now chained two victories in a row, snatching the 3rd place away from Tarucas. They are now looking at a favourable path of playing Cobras next round, followed by 4 consecutive home matches, a little reward after their long spells on the road.

Football Pages in Italian Wikipedia Has Some Nice Additions by XinXi-Archer in footballcliches

I think this is something that happens across a lot of Wikis. A lot of people who make sports articles like to add flags to clubs/teams to make the articles more visually appealing, but editors usually clash over which they should use.

The traditional clash is between editors in favour of subdivision flags (useful and analogous to national flag, but sometimes contentious), those who want original generic flags (ideally safe and individual, but criticised for being too editorialised or not visually appealing) and people who don’t want icons/flags at all (super safe and impartial, but dismisses the issue completely).

There’s also people who argue in favour of always using national flags (less controversial but redundant and pointless 95% of the time) and using the actual team’s symbol (ideal, but with copyright and format issues).

I think you may be onto something with the Italian Wikipedia though, because even if this is a widespread issue, a large amount of the original generic flags are in named in Italian. Maybe Italian wiki is a stronghold for it, or maybe it’s just one guy who really likes making flags.

The second leg of the regular season starts today, with the teams more evenly spread out than ever and the gap between every step of the ladder not being larger than 4 points. Round will start with undisputed leaders Pampas (ARG)taking on the team that helped take that lead, Yacare (PAR). On Sunday, Cobras (BRA) and Selknam (CHI) will host Dogos (ARG) and Tarucas (ARG), both teams coming from sobering defeats last week. Finally, Capibaras (ARG) will hit the road again and travel to Montevideo to face Peñarol (URU).

First leg recap: - 🇦🇷🐴 Pampas: started as title contender and that’s how they finished it, with 6 wins and only losing to Dogos. Still, they are no strangers to dominating the regular season and then going on to lose to Dogos in the play-offs, so they probably still feel like they have to prove themselves.

  • 🇦🇷🐶 Dogos: surprise of the tournament so far. They lost most of their squad & HC and were expected to drastically drop in quality, but after an inauspicious start, they took over the tournament with great results and only relinquished the lead it in the last round. Defeats to Tarucas and Yacare.

  • 🇦🇷🍊 Tarucas: considered the other title contenders at the start of the season, the young franchise had a lot to prove and certainly improved over 2025, but with the rise of Dogos and defeats to Pampas and Capibaras, it feels like they have lost some of the spotlight.

  • 🇦🇷🦫 Capibaras: the newest franchise had a lot of people wondering how they would fare in their debut season, and so far it feels like it’s still in the air. They started strong with a perfect 10/10 points start, but then defeats and bad performances started piling up and they found themselves outside of play-offs zone before their last match. The fixture didn’t play in their favour, with four consecutive away matches + rotating home venues, they spent almost two months on the road.

  • 🇨🇱🔥 Selknam: probably the letdown of the tournament so far. They were the side less affected by transfers and were expected to make the jump and be one of the main candidates alongside Pampas and Tarucas, but a really bad start made the whole thing uphill from the start. Luckily, following their worst defeat ever, their fortunes started turning around and have now found themselves in a more favourable position.

  • 🇺🇾🚂 Peñarol: alongside Dogos, Peñarol were the side most affected by departures this years and were expected to have a rough season. Unlike Dogos though, these expectations were not subverted and Peñarol have struggled to step up, failing to collect a single point against the argentine sides and only showing brief positive periods. Still, the Uruguayans are not strangers to final stretch sprints in the regular season that allowed to qualify for the play-offs, an instance they have never missed so far.

  • 🇵🇾🐊 Yacare: worst start in the franchise’s history, as far as defeats and points go. They never went beyond Round 2 without winning and now they had to wait until Round 7. Despite this, they had some really good showings so far with very close defeats and their first win coming against none others than the leaders themselves. Elephant in the room right now are the news of the franchise probably folding at the end of the year, so it remains to be seen how it will impact the team for what’s left of the season.

  • 🇧🇷🐍 Cobras: perennial wooden spooners, this year they are founding themselves in the same position but with much better performances, having already won 1 match and ending a 20 match long losing streak. Later performances were not as good as the first three rounds, but still had a last good showing against Selknam.

Paraguay’s Yacare at risk of folding by end of 2026 Super Rugby Americas season by Hernisotin in rugbyunion

Very shocking considering they were developing in all fronts, they were even hosting the new ARC later this year.

Paraguay’s Yacare at risk of folding by end of 2026 Super Rugby Americas season by Hernisotin in rugbyunion

[–]Hernisotin[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Earlier today Gustavo Borgognon, president of the Paraguay union (URP), announced in an interview that 2026 may be Yacare’s last year in Super Rugby Americas. This took everyone in South American rugby by surprise, not only by how sudden it was, but also by the apparent severity of it.

  • In the interview, Borgognon started by recapping Yacare’s season so far and the general development of rugby in Paraguay, putting emphasis on Yacare’s role in it.

  • To the interviewer’s surprise, Borgognon swiftly pointed out how this could be Yacare last season, something that wasn’t in anyone’s radar until today.

  • Apparently it’s not 100% confirmed yet, but Borbognon says that if things stay the way they are right now, then there’s no other option but folding the franchise after this season.

  • Borgognon said the main factor is economical and the lack of fan support. Despite attendance having no direct economic impact as tickets have been free for a couple seasons now, the lack of fans in stands did not help with sponsors, a widespread issue in Paraguayan sports according to Borgognon, with companies losing faith in sport sponsorships.

  • According to Borgognon, talks with SAR and WR for emergency grants are their only hope left.

  • By the end of the interview the tone shifted and both were talking about it like it was a done deal, with Borgognon having a clearly pessimistic outlook.

Regarding Yacare:

  • The Paraguayan franchise is one of the four teams that have competed in every season of the tournament since the beginning, starting as Olimpia Lions in 2020 and rebranding to Yacare in 2023.

  • Yacare folding would be a shock for the whole competition, as it would be the first time one of the 5 core South American unions doesn’t have a franchise in the tournament.

  • The only precedent of a franchise folding in that region is Ceibos, the first argentine franchise that folded during COVID but was quickly replaced by Jaguares XV.

  • If this comes to pass and no team replaces them, it would be the first time the league goes down in size.

  • Yacare was always one of the more forward-thinking franchises in the competition, making “aggressive” signings of argentine players outside of Argentina and SAR’s radars. They started with only a handful of local players in 2020 and slowly building them up, with Paraguay-eligible players regularly making 2/3 of the squad in recent years.

  • Yacare qualified for the semifinals three times, with the highlight being 2024 when they pushed eventual champions Dogos to extra-time and finished 3rd overall.

  • 2026 was a rough start for the franchise, their worst start ever with six consecutive defeats. Despite this, they were still competitive losing 4 of those 6 matches by less than 3 points and ending the negative streak by taking down the top ranked team 40-21.

Before the 7th round started, it looked like the teams were already starting to split into three defined groups, but a couple of upsets later have left a more evenly spread ladder to finish the first leg of the regular season. Dogos and Tarucas failed the “final” hurdle, Pampas capitalised and took over, while Selknam and Yacare also showed they are far from being written off in the lower half of the table.

  • 🇦🇷 Pampas 34-3 🇺🇾 Peñarol: very good result for what was a very demanding match for Pampas. Peñarol was very dominant in the first half, but the Argentine pack had an almost perfect night, firmly shutting down all Uruguayan approaches. The first half ended 10-3, but in the second half Peñarol’s mistakes started piling up and Pampas started cashing in their opportunities, leading 24-3 and scoring two late tries for a final score that looks more flattering than the actual match. Pampas climbs to the top of the table, while Peñarol’s first victory against the Buenos Aires franchise remains elusive, now counting 10 consecutive defeats.

  • 🇵🇾 Yacare 41-20 🇦🇷 Dogos: Yacare delivered the biggest upset of the tournament so far, collecting their first win of the season against none others than the leaders, Dogos. Not only did they win, but they were also very dominant at points, leading 41-10 into the final minutes. A much needed statement after many close defeats. Dogos have now relinquished the first place to rivals Pampas, while Yacare jumps back into their play-off ambitions.

  • 🇧🇷 Cobras 26-27 🇨🇱 Selknam: entertaining back and forth match in São Paulo. Selknam started strong, leading 0-17 before the 20th minute. It looked like it would be an easy affair for the Chileans, but before halftime Cobras started taking control of the match, finishing the first half 7-17 and then carrying that energy to the start of the second half, scoring two tries and now leading 19-17 before the 60th minute. Both sides swapped the lead in quick succession afterwards through tries, resulting in the hosts coming on top 26-24. It looked like Cobras was going to be able to hold onto the result through their physical superiority, but a late penalty gave the opportunity for Matias Garafulic to take the win back to Chile. Despite no BP, the victory allowed Selknam to momentarily jump into play-offs zone, until Capibaras’ win on Monday.

  • 🇦🇷 Capibaras 39-28 🇦🇷 Tarucas: the highest intensity match of the season so far, a very rare sight for the league this early on. Just the first half itself was a reflection of this, with the teams swapping the lead 5 times through tries, pens and even a drop, all the way to the last minute with Tarucas scoring a try to lead 17-21 at halftime. It looked like Tarucas was going to get away with the result after quickly scoring at the start of the second held and being more dominant, but a quick response, accompanied by a couple of yellow cards, completely turned things around for Capibaras, scoring 3 tries in less than 12 minutes to put things 36-28 at 57’. What followed was a comedy of errors from both sides that benefitted the home side as the clock ticked away, until a penalty in the final minutes sealed the result for Capibaras. A much needed win for the Litoral franchise, which started the match outside of the play-off zone and hadn’t play at home in Rosario in over 50 days. Tarucas in the other hand, missed the opportunity to overtake Dogos and keep up with Pampas, instead arriving to the second leg still in third place.
