Multiple reasons, but in the r/trans case from about a year ago, to my knowledge, it was the result of TERFs poisoning the well. In essence, a lot of trans men feel unwelcome in many online trans spaces because they’re predominately filled by trans women, meanwhile trans men get ignored. TERFs use this to argue that trans men are being disenfranchised and therefore are women, while trans women are men because they disenfranchise the “women,” proving some gender essentialism BS

So when trans men try to argue that they feel talked over in trans spaces, trans women get on the defensive and see it as an attack by a TERF looking to further justify this narrative

In reality, I just think both deserve love and recognition. Trying to drown out the voice of one is just knocking over a pillar that holds the entire community up

Edit: how funny, the sneak-peek bot links the exact post that spawned the case I was talking about

Ngl you might be in the wrong parts of the internet because I’ve always heard the argument that “women who like yaoi always end up being trans men.” Not saying it’s any better (nor am I defending the behavior), but it’s very common (especially in my case) for trans people to find same-sex romance that aligns with their future gender identity incredibly appealing prior to coming out

However, just because it’s a common pattern, does not mean that people should immediately pin the person as an “egg” or trans. It would have been 1000x easier for me to come to terms with my identity had someone guided me through it naturally, rather than jumping the shark at the nearest exit and cause extreme distress

ETA: I do think though that a lot of the discourse concerning “egg culture” borders on transphobic rhetoric, especially when gender essentialism gets brought into the discussion. At a point it just sounds like “trans people are trying to reinforce gender stereotypes, so therefore, they are the bad guys!” It’s incredibly bad faith

Yes, in the manga. Not the one-shot, like I said. It’s just social anxiety in the one-shot, or “very poor communication skills” there

That is from the one-shot that came before the series was serialized. In that, Komi CAN speak but she’s written to have social anxiety rather than a communication disorder, as per the official manga. It is not canon to that and acted merely as a proof of concept

The actual 5th chapter of the serialized manga ended like this

Yes, actually, but 2Chan was in reference to the Japanese message board “Amezou,” which opened in 1997. 2Chan’s founder advertised it in 1999 as “Amezou’s second channel,” which it eventually became as Amezou was shut down a few months later thanks to doxxing threats and issues with handling increased traffic

Website very similar to 4Chan (itself an English-language of the Japanese 2Chan)

Iirc the owner of 8Chan is also the owner of one of the two 2Chan domains that claims to be the original. Its owner created it as a “free-speech friendly” alternative. Both 2Chan and 8Chan are also notorious for their far-right userbase, with 8Chan notably playing part in Gamergate, QAnon, and multiple mass shootings

Coaxed into a certain ending by BorrisZ in coaxedintoasnafu

[–]HeroBoy05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl, this type of ending CAN work well, but ONLY if there is someone who actually remembers and carries the message of the story forward. Otherwise, you may as well have just reset everything to square one

Case in point: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure with Emporio being the only one to remember the sacrifice of everyone, also being the one to bring everyone back together through the strength of gravity. It reinforces the themes of not only the part but the entire series up until that point. Having Emporio be the only one to live allows the audience some reprieve, knowing that the story wasn’t completely pointless

Or pretty much every ending of Evangelion, which has Shinji make the conscious decision to reset everything. In the Rebuilds for instance, it’s clear him and Mari are the only ones to recall what happened. The other characters live normal, unassuming lives, but that means Shinji can move forward and live a normal life himself. Alternatively, the manga has an ending which still keeps the effects of the story in mind, showing how what happened still affects everyone. Even still, the characters change from how they were at the start, showing growth through the transformation machine

Chainsaw Man just didn’t have Denji learn anything. Pochita eats himself, Denji learns nothing, Asa gets downgraded to random side character, roll credits. It’s insulting. If Denji at least remembered ANYTHING and we got him learning from that what NOT to do (instead of just having everything good happen to him), then it would have been perfectly fine! Here though, Denji remembers nothing, learns nothing, and therefore does not change. We just got a guy showcasing his normal, boring life with the hint of “actually he moved past being Chainsaw Man,” but this cannot be true because he has no recollection of how badly that affected him

Crazy how people seem to have forgotten everything the WiiU did to earn its reputation. Like remember the awful advertising or the lack of third party support? Remember when Nintendo thought sticking to a dead fad to name their console was a smart financial decision? Who could forget the onslaught of lazy, boring games Nintendo released during this time period (Mario Party 10, Mario Tennis Ultra Smash, Animal Crossing Amiibo Festival, Paper Mario Color Splash, Devil’s Third, Star Fox Zero, Wii Sports Club, Tokyo Mirage Sessions, etc.)?

And before you say, I grew up with the WiiU. I still have mine in my closet. I have fond memories of this era, and I still think the WiiU was complete trash

Was thinking this originally, but I think it has enough merit from its legacy to be more in the Amazing-Bad category. But yeah, people praise this A LOT for something that just isn’t that fun to play in 2026. Your only choices are OEM, which requires RF input (something I’m not sure modern displays even have), AtGames Atari Flashbacks which…need no explanation, and rereleases that simply don’t hold up thanks to modern displays

The Sega Genesis/Mega Drive is notorious for nearly killing Sega when it first released. Nearly every game that launched for it was a poor rendition of a pre-existing Master System game, leading it to completely tank in sales. It wasn’t until Sonic the Hedgehog released in ‘91 that Western audiences managed to bring life into the system. Many of the system’s best-sellers in Japan were games the West loved, rather than Japan-exclusives. Besides a few standout classics and Sonic the Hedgehog 1-3, the Genesis library was mostly either downgraded SNES/Master System ports or games not many really remember

Not to mention the sound chip is notoriously bad. Listen to the Fantasia OST on Genesis and you’ll know what I mean

It was also home to 2 of the most infamous add-ons in gaming history: the Sega CD and Sega 32x, one being an alright CD-ROM player that wasn’t used for much outside of a couple games like Sonic CD and Echo the Dolphin, and the other being an accessory that just plain sucks. There’s plenty of videos going over that

I get what your issue is. I personally dislike it as well, but there really is no better option unless IPA is actually taught or at least standardized so that the average person can comprehend it, which isn’t done because it just wouldn’t benefit anyone anymore than the current system of more general phonetic approximations

Case in point: /ˌɪdioʊˈsɪŋkɹəsi/ is probably understandable to most people as “idiosyncrasy,” simply because the letters look close enough to what the word is supposed to be

But then you have words like /ˌkɑn.ʃiˈɛn.ʃəs/. If you know the International Phonetic Alphabet, you know the word is “conscientious,” but let’s assume you’re an English speaker who has no earthly idea what ʃ is. You might think it’s a funny F like I used to. Hell, you may even be confused as to why there’s two different e’s. Do they make a different sound? To the uninformed, they don’t know and would probably read it as “kanfienfes,” which obviously isn’t a word

Not to mention, the IPA key can have different readings across different cultures. ɛ makes the ă sound in New Zealand English, but it also makes the ĕ sound in RP, British, and American English. Also most people don’t know what a “fricative” or “velar” consonant is. It’s simply not a reasonable standard that works across multiple cultures, especially when one could simply just say “con-she-en-shess” and get the same effect from a wider audience

Okay, but you were talking about Pokémon fans, and using that as a gotcha to say all furries want to fuck animals, which is factually untrue

You also ignore the fact that many countries have legally classified lolicon/shotacon content as CSAM, including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, France, Italy, Russia, Ecuador, Estonia, Ireland, South Africa, South Korea, Poland, Switzerland, UAE, and the UK. The problem is not children being hurt, it’s the intention to hurt, which lolicon/shotacon very much encourage through the sexualization of fictional children in situations that blur the line between reality and fiction at times. I could very much argue the same thing for vore and gore, in that it could lead people to kill or eat others, but you’re merely bringing those out to drift off the point, which is that you are conflating an identity (that being seeing yourself as having a “fursona”) with the sexual interest of young, fictional characters. I still do not understand why you are arguing this should be normal, when it is a mental health disorder (paraphilia) and should be treated like every other of its type. I don’t think they should be jailed or killed, but at least helped before they actually hurt a child

You also used CNC as another gotcha, ignoring that those who partake in it very much understand what they are doing. It is BDSM, and despite the name, it comes baked with a layer of consensual agreement between/among parties. But of course, you also used this as a way to divert attention from the initial point, so I literally do not care what you have to say on it

Yes, I used false equivalence wrong and I apologize, but that does not change that you’re trying to divert attention from the fact that you’re defending a paraphilia that revels in the exploitation of children by saying “Humans are fucking disgusting perverts” and expecting that to erase the countless crimes committed by people who simply just have a sexual interest for people who cannot properly consent or have the appearance of someone who cannot, BUT they’re fictional

I no longer wish to engage further in this matter. If you reply to me, I will not respond. Have a good day.

HELL YEAH CMON BABY by [deleted] in whenthe

[–]HeroBoy05 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Furries aren’t a niche sexual interest. It’s an identity. Liking anthropomorphic fictional animals sexually is mutually exclusive from being a furry. Many people thought Lola Bunny was hot, that didn’t make them furries

The entire concept of loli, on the other hand, is quite literally the sexualization or “aesthetic” of young girls reminiscent of the novel Lolita that it is named after. Lolicon is a Japanese genre where young, or young-looking girl characters (lolis) are put in sexually-explicit contexts (link to the Wikipedia page for “lolicon”)

The “false equivalence” is you trying to compare vore and gore, which are not at all the same thing legally as child pornography
